Didn't get the instructions before but managed to download it now.
You NEED the Apple store app which is NOT the App store app, downloaded the Apple store app first, then opened it, next click on stores, on the next page you have to choose country, then a store, then on the next page there is a link for this game, even then you are not finished, next step the app store app opens, you can redeem your code which you get there.
Finally it starts to download.

Really? I just hit the direct link and it took me right to the download...asked for my Apple ID password then installed...

If only you had spent as much time in the app as you did writing that post... :p

You are describing "One-Touch" mode which is indeed quite simple and not very compelling IMO.

However...try "Marathon" mode. It's classic Tetris gameplay with touch controls (slide to move piece, tap to rotate, swipe down to drop it). That's the one you probably want ;)

There's also "Galaxy" which is a kinda funky puzzle mode that also uses the one-touch controls.
How do you get to the other modes? Mine went straight to the awful one touch game, and i cant seem to get out of it? The Menu button is just grey and unclickable.

Pause the game then choose Main menu, the trick to play the classic model is to choose marathon.

God, well I spent like 5 minutes (that's a long time in an app nowadays) trying to figure out what the hell this is but no matter what stupidly named mode I chose it ended up doing the same thing... Might as well reinstall it now, but god is the interface awful. This is like the oldest and simplest game on Earth and they managed to make it look complicated.

I don't dislike this version of Tetris but come on mate, really there's a multiplayer version?

Yeah! There was on the original Tetris for Game Boy, too, if you had the link cable. I have fond memories of playing against my best friend when we were both, what, thirteen years old...

This is ****. I deleted. Nothing like the original or I'm playing it wrong. Shape stayed at top of screen. Touch touch. Some ghosts shapes appear at bottom. Touch and shape goes down. Its ****. No panic or excitement like the original. Am I alone in this or what?
As mentioned in other posts, simply using a different mode to play, change to another mode and you are all set.

How lame. That's not even __THE__ original Tetris that came out for the MacPlus almost three decades ago.

It's telling me that it is not available for the US store. Lists every other country.

The redemption code is a nice bypass, but it requires a bit of fiddling. Do this:
  • Open the Apple Store app on your iPhone (not the App Store)
  • Locate thre "Free Tetris" option
  • Click Download now for free, then Continue
  • When you get a redemption code, accept it, enter your iTunes/App Store account password
  • It'll say that it's preparing to download, but likely never will
  • Open iTunes on your PC or Mac
  • Go to the Store menu and choose "Check for available downloads"
  • iTunes will download the app anyway, regardless of you not being in the US.
  • Sync to your device(s).

I'm not in the US either and having it running in my iPhone right now, for free.

Please repost an accurate link
this link leads to a .99 version of the app.

Please read more carefully.

I downloaded it on to my phone and the on my ipad I went to the App Store, selected iphone only games and downloaded it on to my ipad

But it's the iPhone version, scaled to your iPad screen. Unfortunately, the iPad-native version doesn't seem to be part of this deal.

Don't download this piece of junk, even for free, this is NOT Tetris, but some strange remake where they use Tetris elements to make a completely different game.

Basically the app tells you all the places where the Tetris piece can fit, and you have to tap on the one that you want. That's it. There is no "game". It's like playing Tomb Raider and the game asking you how you want to end the game. You choose from 3 endings then the whole game plays itself to that ending. Ta dah. An app that makes playing so easy you are no longer needed for it!

Go to settings and turn off "ghost piece", and use "marathon" instead of "one touch". It will then be more like what you're used to.

Thats not how it works(-ed for me), it will take (took me) you to the paid $0.99 version.

Maybe you ever paid for it or got it for free before, if so you have it for life and download is much easier.;)

Thanks :) I only found that out by coming back to read comments.

So who's idea was it to put the first mode people would naturally touch a stupid mode that is nothing like tetris? who ever made that decision is an idiot. When I saw the game was nothing like it should be, how I remember it, I deleted it. Why would I want to continue in the app if the first experience is so bad?

Confusing nomenclature by Apple.

This is available through Apple's Apple Store app, not Apple's App Store app.

Probably won't ever play it, but it's temporarily free to download so why not. Put it right next to Flappy Bird and Angry Birds in the last page of my Games folder.

One thing I noticed was that after it downloaded, it brought me to EA's list of apps. Maybe that's part of how Apple is able to convince EA to give so many promotional copies of their apps away. EA being one of the oldest companies I boycott, won't actually ever make a cent off of me so their efforts are in vain.

I don't like EA too much, but I will get Sims 4 and such. But their free-to-plays suck.
Although, Valve, even though it's owned by EA, is a good compony.

I don't think Valve is owned by EA... the Wikipedia page mentions that they've been partners since 2005... So maybe EA distributes physical copies of Valve's games? I wouldn't know - I get all my Valve games through Steam. I believe they're competitors, given EA has their own download service (called Origin, I think?)

Here's another forum post saying the same thing I just said... Not sure if that makes it seem more official or not.

Did you try marathon? All it does it shows a ghost of where it's going to land, other than that you're rotating, strafing, slamming, and Tetrising like you should be! :D
