FYI As far as I can tell, Anand is the first one to come out and say that Santa Rosa is a disappointment. Apple better have some more tricks up its sleeve.
So if new MBP's come out this tuesday which i really hope they do, is it a good idea to purchase it right away as i hear that Rev A models usually come with a lot of bugs and problems.🙁 how long is it from the release date that Rev B or C get released?
Well Apple would have to give it time to find any/all problems, so it might be weeks until they let out a Rev B or C...I personally am going to get a Rev A because I can't wait. The only problem with Rev A is not that you'll get stuck with faulty hardware, since I believe in most cases Apple will replace it...the problem is that you'll have to go through the process of replacing it, which can get ridiculous especially if this is your first time with a company. If you want to go ahead and get the Rev A then you'll just have to accept the fact that you might be plagued with bad luck. Such is life, though.
If you're in no hurry and don't have the money burning a hole in your pocket, then you could wait for it...but I'm not. 🙂
This isn't really like a regular rev "A", though, is it? I mean, what's really being updated here? Motherboard, LCD screen, maybe a higher cap HD... I don't see how this is going to be vulnerable to the bugs and hardware problems that past redesigns have been plagued with...
Dude, i've had the money since April and trust me, its been hell keeping it together and not spending because i can't usually keep money saved for more than a month!!
I hope Apple will use the X2600! if its mature enough, which it doesn't seem to be yet. The inquirer couldnt get any results at all with the x2600, no matter what they tried (http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=39540)
So if apple decides to use it, we will probably see it at WWDC if we are lucky.
It would also make sense if they used a 8600M since Intel is working close with Apple and no doubt wants AMD dead in all of its shapes and forms.
Apple also already uses the nvidia geforce 7300 in the macpro and 24inch Imac so it wouldnt be the first time the go with nvidia.
But if the GPU isn't DX10 when they update, I'm not going to buy a MBP. Because it would mean that the update would only be a display upgrade, everything else is very minor.
QFT. Were there any issues with the first batch of C2D MBPs? It was a relatively incremental upgrade from the CD MBPs, similar in scope to the one we will be seeing very soon.
What's "QFT"? *Points left to the "Noobie" sign*
I can only speak from personal experience and I've got a sub-100 off the assembly line 17" MBP with C2D (stock) and no problems with the computer. The stinking Mighty mouse quit scrolling up a few days ago, but they're sending out a new one, so I guess that's not a real complaint either. Over all, I'm happy and things are working out quite nicely. If this is the same concern for the next revision, then I tell the whole world, buy an extended warranty (always for the mobile products) and buy buy buy!
What's "QFT"? *Points left to the "Noobie" sign*
I was under the impression that "QFT" stood for "Quit F-> Talking", but I am sure I must be mistaken...
And with the bad design quality, not only is it rarely Apple's fault if your HDD dies, or your screen screws up, but even if just 1% of computers are dodgy, and 100,000 people buy them (Which is a low estimate) then statistically, there are gonna be a small handful of people who get 2 or even 3 screwed computers in a row.

Here's a review of a desktop replacement (20") portable computer that claims to have a Radeon Mobility HD2600 in it with 256MB VRAM. It claims a score of just over 4,000 in 3DMark06. Now, I don't know much about benchmarks, but compared to other benchmarks, ie. X1900, X1950, etc. these seem damn good. Like maybe almost on par.
Although, this is a very, very large "desktop replacement"...
Still hoping for this GPU in the MBP!!!
EDIT: Yay! Post #600! I'll catch up to 'Mad Jew' yet!
Here is a link to a thread which has a link to some SR bechmarks
doesn't look like a disappointment to me...
What I'm hoping for:
MBP santa rosa 2.2ghz w/ Turbocache
2 gig RAM
160 gig HD (if its 120 ill be ok but I'll select 160 anyway)
ATI HD X2X00 or Nvidia GeForce Go 8X00
15.4" LED Display (1440x900 is fine for me but higher is always welcome)
3 USB ports (2 is just not enough... )
firewire 400 & 800 (of course)
better battery (could happen... so why not hope )
as base model... at 2 Gs (will it happen?... who knows... but we can hope)
sounds fairly reasonable... to me at least
I don't know what they can do to the enclosure... if they were going to redo it... but we will see
Malaysia counts as South East Asia. We're not in the 'far east', and I'd hardly group Malaysians in the 'Orientals' bin. Give it a couple of weeks after shipping begins in the US, and I'm sure you'll start seeing whatever new beasts Apple releases in Malaysian Apple outlets.i m from malaysia, a far east country, wish to get my mbp d...haha...
wish tat the mbp come to malaysia asap....
Just making the point...
That is the desktop card. Not the Mobility version. They will, of course, be completely different.
Hopefully, there are zero issues with the Mobility HD2600, and Apple have had a large stock of perfect units for some time now, being put in brand spanking new Santa Rosa Macbook Pros. That will be released on Tuesday. Or Wednesday for us Aussies : (
