They've allowed 10 lines ever since they introduced the Mobile Share Value Plan earlier this year. I've got 8 lines under the plan, all at $15/mo and 10GB data.

No surprise they didn't touch those of us on the 10GB/$100 plan. No love for us, I guess...

----------

Compared to Verizon, it is a steal. Sprint and TM might have lower prices, but their service is comparatively subpar. $40/mo for unlimited service and a share of 10GB of data is a pretty good deal, if you ask me.

I'm on Sprint. I'm willing to have less than the "best" coverage for less $. I'm on a Framily plan with others at work and am paying $25/month (plus 20.84 Easy pay for my iPhone - interest free non-subsidized). Of course it's a bonus that the hospital I work in has Sprint boosters inside so I get great coverage at work, and decent coverage at home, and no problems in my commute. I was with T-Mobile before, and was happy with them as well. Not giving AT&T my hard earned cash and then thanking them for over charging.

Also, it's $160, IF you pay full price for the phones, and it's not including the taxes and fees. REDONK. Don't even get me started on Verizon, but at least they have better customer service.

I get that it's different if you have a large family. But still I hate the giddiness of how "cheap" $160 is. STOP THE MADNESS.

I tried to talk myself into the shared plan to be able to tether and add my parents two lines making it 6 total. My math might be wrong but over 2 years it seems like I save $1,079 over buying outright with my legacy plan and data per line. Someone correct me if I'm wrong?

I don't really know if there are 30gb plans but I can tell what I have. 400 minutes of calls, 1000 texts (never use them though) 2gb and unlimited minutes with one person of your choice. That costs 10 euros/month. You can add another 2gb by paying 15/month. It's enoug for me, as I never finish 400 minutes because most of my longer calls are free with my fiancé.
It just scares me there are 140bucks/month plans somewhere, that's all :)

Someone's probably already pointed this out (not going to read 13 pages of thread), but to match a 30GB share plan, you'd be starting with 10 euros for 2gb, and adding 15 euros x 14, or an additional 210 euros a month, for a total of 220 euros. At the current conversion rate, that would come to approximately $277.35, which is a heck of a lot more than the $140 we pay for that same data rate. :)

They just said to hell with individual users...

Why couldn't they double the 4Gig to 8? I would have changed IMMEDIATELY.

But if you have 30GB data and your data use keeps going up (with faster LTE speeds - think 5 years from now), you're 30GB will always be stagnant. .

yes I know. thats why i wrote "in this day and age." but if you think that will change your unlimited data, 5 years from now, it won't. it's now an unsupported plan, and it will be capped at 5gb 20 years from now, because they don't want you on it. and thats how they force you off. you want unlimited data, go to t-mobile, or sprint. but staying on this at&t plan is just a pipe dream.

I think you and I have a different definition of "can't be beat". It's ridiculous how much we pay for cellular service. I cringe every time I see the giddy AT&T actors, "$160 for four lines, what a steal!" Also that $10 and $15 is for unlocked phones. Plus taxes and fees. Plus your upgrade charges. It's painful. But we're saying it with a smile, and "thank you so much AT&T!". Gag.

No other carrier offers ME the coverage and performance I expect, so no, it can't be beat. To beat it, you'd have to offer me similar coverage and performance in my area for a lower cost for four lines with unlimited talk and text and 30GB of unthrottled data.

No, it can't be beat. Do I like upgrade fees? No. Do I like to pay $200/month for four lines? No. Do I like all the taxes and fees? No. They still can't be beat.

What am I supposed to do? Go to TMobile? LOL! Sprint? Double LOL! Verizon is closest, but I left them for the same reasons.

They want to raise revenue per user. One way to do that is to offer deals to larger data plans by charging more money. Think of all the people getting caught in the giddy frenzy signing up to pay for 30GB, 60GB or whatever. AT&T has calculated that a significant portion of those users are never going to consistently hit that limit month after month, thus their revenue per GB is actually much higher. Someone using 8GB consistently per month is not that rare. So they feel no need to give those who signed up for lower tiers a break.

Ok, so we gave up our five line unlimited family plan for the 40gb shared family value plan. Our combined data usage has never gone over 20gb in one month since 2008. It could have been more but we all could not use hotspot if we wanted to for our laptops and wifi only tablets, and it seems that we are now able to use wifi in more places than before.

We will be saving $800 a year with our new 40gb plan. That savings will be used to pay for two new iPhones with the Next payment plan. So our monthly payments stay the same, but now we have two free iPhones.

Cons:
1. No more unlimited data.
2. Payment stays the same.

Pros:
1. One free $800 phone a year, or two free phones every two years.
2. Every two years, the paid for phones could be handed down to the other lines, or sold to subsidize the phones for the other lines.
3. Personal Hotspot for our laptops and tablets.

How much does ATT throttle you when you pass 5GB?

Most months I come very close to 5GB, but I don't think I've ever gone over.

I've never switched off of unlimited because I figure at some point I'll be using more.

2 iPhones with unlimited data.
2 250 SMS text plans.
2 feature phones
Plan: Old 600 min/mo with rollover.
Cost: $133/mo

Subtract two simultaneous upgrades (interleaved year over year)
$34.17 = $98.83/mo

Subtract $9.99 for three added lines = $68.86/mo

Since the new plans have unlimited minutes and SMS, I won't be concerned with that. But for $68.86, I am getting 10GB/mo over two separate lines, at which point there is a throttle, but you can keep on going.

Never gone over the minutes (have over 4000 rollover, and it never seems to go down) Never go over on SMS - Thanks to Apple's iMessages.

To get the exact same thing, I have to pay $70 more. Though terms of unlimited get applied to minutes and SMS, but not data.

To add another line and iPhone to our old plan, it costs $30 minimum and $45 max. ($30 = 300MB, $45=5GB, don't know if we can grandfather unlimited.) New grand total, is $178/mo

On the new Family share plans, the total is ~ $208, as told to me by AT&T.

The "Double The Data" is a promotion. It's meant to get you to convert. So after some time, the data goes back to normal.

My question. Why would I want to pay more? Just because I have unlimited data, AT&T does not let me use Wi-Fi hotspot. Also they won't allow Wi-Fi calling. If they do indeed throttle, (never experienced it) all it means is I will reach that level sooner. Again, why the miss-treatment?

I'm in the same boat. The new plan cost more for two line unlimited users. It would cost us more to move. So this being a way to get us off unlimited won't work this go around.

Double the data does NOT go back to normal if you've switched to it. You have it forever or until you switch plan.
