Don't forget the gas there is like at least twice as expensive than in the us so it all evens out in the end but I think you're point about U.S. companies having to cover a much bigger area makes sense.

That's true, but if you study the matter you will notice that we drive smaller cars and we drive less because we live in towns that are 1/10, 1/20 or even 1/50 of yours so in the end it KINDA evens out.. i drive a lot between different cities though, so i envy you anyway ;) a gallon of gas is 8.50$ here. must sound crazy to you, just like the at&t 140 plan sounds crazy to me :)

I saw this Sunday night and jumped onto it the following morning. Amazing timing by AT&T because I was going to switch to T-Mobile the next day too.

We have 8 lines on my plan so this was a no brainer for us. Went with the 30GB plan for $130. We have 25% off through my job so it came out to be $97.50 for 30GB.

$97.50/9 = $12.19 + $15 access charge = $27.19 + tax per month for each person. Not bad at all for 3.75gb each.

Looks like I'd be paying MUCH more on this new plan. I've got an old grandfathered Family Plan for $59 ($49 after FAN) with 2 lines, one unlimited data at $30, the other non-unlimited at $25, plus $10 ($5 x 2) for texting. And I'm on a new 2 year contract since ordering two new iPhones last week.

I'm on a similar plan. The CSR told me to keep my current plan since I'm not going to need to add any more lines in the next few years. Priced out including my FAN would be over 200 dollars a month for the next two years

I guess I don't understand this plan upgrade for those with Unlimited data. With your current plan, you are getting a subsidy price. If you switch to the 30gb share plan, your monthly bill may look similar, but then you have to buy the phone out right, instead of paying 199/299/399, right?

You can either
1) Pay the subsidized 199/299/399 price and then pay $40/line on the new plans.

or

2) Pay the full price of the phone over 20 (or 24) months, but only pay $15/line on the new plan. (or $25/line for smaller data plans)

or

3) But the full price phone outright (full price) and pay $15/line on the new plan. (or $25/line for smaller data plans)

Either way, you end up paying full price for the phone.

It is really worth logging in to your AT&T account and comparing your own situation. Don't go into a store and have them explain it. Half the employees there don't know jack squat and will just say 'yes' to whatever you ask and then you get home and find out the truth. The other half are slicker than slick and will sell you something you can't understand and don't need.

For example, my current plan (with employee discount) runs at $130.00 per month for two iPhone 5 phones. This gets us both "unlimited" throttled at 5gb data, rollover minutes meaning pretty much unlimited, 200 texts each, which don't get overage in our use case.

To switch to the 30gb plan, AT&T estimates about $145/mo for two lines and employee discount. This "unlocks" free tethering, unlimited talk and text as well as free international texting, something I'd use.

BUT...what about the cost of the phones to upgrade to this plan. If we both got 2 iPhone 6s, we'd have to buy them outright, is this correct...ie. no subsidy?

Right, so in my case when the estimate monthly payment for the "plan" goes from $130/mo to $145/mo...gone is my subsidy built into the $130/mo cost. So in reality, if I did 20 Next plan, it'd be about $145 plus $40 for EACH iPhone 6 upgrade (assuming 128gb version) making this one hell of a lot more than $130/mo with subsidy price of $399/phone up front and activation fee.

I think individuals with older plans who use more than 5GB/month will find the Next plans to offer an increase, sometimes substantial, over 2-year contract formulas.

I think families and other multi-line plans will see a bill that is lower (somewhere between just barely lower and a lot lower).

You don't have to upgrade to next or a 6/6plus to get on mobile share. If you signed your contract before feb of this year you can bring both of your iPhones over for 15 dollars each per month.

I understand there is a BYOD option, but we got the iPhone 5s back in Oct. 2012, so we will be due for a subsidized upgrade the 19th of this month. We're looking forward to the upgrade, so BYOD isn't for me.

Running some quick numbers, staying with subsidized unlimited plan, the two phones and plan with activation and upfront cost would run about $4200 for two years vs. a hair over $5300 for "switching" to the 30gb plan/mo and upgrading.

Effectively, that is the subsidy cost right there $450 per device...so this new plan you are paying for what you get...more data, "free" tethering, unlimited talk/text...

It's not bad, but in this day and age I'll take the $$$ to the bank rather than unlocking some features I don't currently have with A$T$&$T

Have you factored in getting the phones with next program and switching to mobile share. My wife and I both have unlimited data but getting throttled at 5gb 1.5 weeks inti my billing cycle sucks! Not trying to sway you either way, everyone's situation is different, just trying to help clear up the confusion about next and mobile share.

When you get throttled what are your pings? If your pings are low you shouldn't notice a significant difference.

What may be insignificant to you may not be to others.. and probably also less scientific. The fact that z28black98 said that, to him, throttling sucks, he must be noticing a difference and that it's significant enough for him to consider making a change.

This is really tempting; I am glad I have a month to decide. I would save $70 per month if I switched to the 40 GB plan (and that would be over twice as much data as I use now).

I have been throttled 6 months this year...my data throttle is at 79 ping, 0.49 MBps down and 0.47 MBps up.

I'd like to say that it really isn't an issue, but when it happens yes, I'm pissed as I'm paying for unlimited data. AT&T defines unlimited differently than I do.

The good news for me is that so far each month I've been throttled it is with no more than 4 days left in the cycle and I have a hotspot from work I hook up in the case of throttled data.

The discounted price I will be loosing is the $15 dollars on the device to my line on a new 2 year contract. That will go up to $40 as I stated. I do not loose my discount data plan. If I want to keep the $15 then I have to go to next, pay full price or bring my own device. The access charge is the $15 or $40, depending on what you choose. I will most likely move over to Next when my primary line is up in September 2015. This way I still keep my $15 discount. Again, nothing effects your data share promotion. The discount is all about equipment. So no you are not paying full price for the phone. You can keep your $199, $299, $399 prices during your next upgrade. Just remember you will go from $15 line charge to $40 line charge. I hope I made that clear.

Oops...you're right. I totally misread it.

After reading some of your post and talking to another AT&T rep I decided to stay were I'm at. I know, call me crazy but I kept running the numbers in my brain and I didn't want to stomach the $40 for upgrading phones each year. The rep even told me I should stay put with my two unlimited data plans. It actually came out cheaper. He even did the calculations and I will only pay $137 after 15% discount on my current plan. Even if I brought over one more line and added 3gb data, that would make it around $177. That is better than the $165 30gb for two phones only.

Besides I like to upgrade every year since my lines are a year apart which means I can get a new iPhone every September.

Thanks again for some of the insight. This plan would have been great if I didn't upgrade each year and I had more than 3 lines.

Not for sure what the ping time is, it's just NOTICEABLY slower when loading any type of email, downloading apps, updates, fb news feed or any webpage. If they wouldn't throttle until 10gb that would be one thing but 5? Complete crap. Held onto this unlimited data plan about as long as I can, this the double the data plan I'm sure will get a lot of people off unlimited.

Agree and agree. Double data made me a recovering grandfathered user.

I should have been paying attention to AT&T’s plans earlier. I was stupidly paying $175/mo for three phone lines with only 200MB of data per month each. I could have been saving about $80/mo. by using the 1GB/mo plan, so earlier this month I switched to that. Then I saw this promotion and switched over to the 30GB/mo plan and I’m paying about what I was with the 200MB per month plan, but now I get 30GB.

I will have to wait until I get my iPhone 6+ to make use of the new data plan. My iPhone is so slow I can barely load any websites on it. Ugh!
