I skipped the 4S for the specific reason of going with the next model which I had expected to be LTE.

+1. This is the only feature I really care about and its worth the upgrade IMO.

However, This time around, I won't be standing in line for the iPhone lol...

Hey, I like the newest and latest cool gadget. Why not?

But, why are there so many people that are dying to buy something that we are not even positive about? What is so bad about their 4 or 4s? Or some of my family members that still have a "3" and doing just fine?

It just baffles me how many MUST HAVE this new phone since their old one is so, well, OLD!

Most will have to pay at least $200 to get the new one. Some are ready to pay $400 or even $800 to get this new thingie. Just amazing.

A) I want LTE
B) I'm up for an upgrade again
C) I'll sell my iPhone 4s for around $500

----------

Me too.
Im gonna preorder instead:D

I MIGHT stand in line. Did any of the 4s deliver early last year? I don't recall.

I wish I had the time or patience to stand in line for hours:D
Last year I think some got it a day early and most on release date.

I usually nap the evening before, then go out around 3am to wait and chat with the ppl I've seen there the past few years, get my phone by 9 am and head in to work just a little late.

I been without a Phone for awhile thats why I going to Preorder during the day it launch.

Nice, its a cool thing to do and Im sure it will be memorable and fun.
I heard places at the mall offer free coffee, breakfast and snacks to people waiting in line etc...
Will probably make the local news channel too:D

interesting comments (for the most part).

Of course people would think about it if their current phone has gone flaky.

And, yes, people can do whatever they want with their money. Get a new phone, smoke crack, blow on other activities, buy $100k cards. Whatever.

Still, just overly amazed at those that just HAVE to get the newest since thier 4s is now old stuff.

My reason is always more speed. Must have LTE!

Lol :D Dude, I'd totally come down and hang if you were closer:D

I'd buy a Verizon model just to spite you. Hahaha!

Used to be the ViPhone ;) was the big controversy. Now what is it, NFC?

I dont know about that NFC thing.
Feels like if you lose or get your phone stolen now anyone can go shopping using your account if they want.
Im more excited about the LTE too since AT&T has it available in my area I heard and the longer screen might be cool. Will have to play around to see how it feels.
Hope the battery dont suck with LTE on.

Yup, amazing that we were able to ebay one-year-old 32GB iPhones for $450+ (jailbroken and unlocked) and get the newest 32GB for $299 plus tax for the past few years.

I'm not sure I follow. Who in their right mind would pay that much for a 1 or 2 year old, used, non-current phone when they can go out and get the latest, brand new pristine current model for half the price?

Has there even been any confirmation that the new phone will even have LTE?

Sounds like a feature they would intentionally withhold for their small, incremental upgrade a year from now.

When you buy a 32GB iPhone for $399 from AT&T on a 2 year contract, what you are really paying is $399 cash + 2 years of committment for an $849 phone. (leaving out all the fees/taxes and such to keep things simple) So when you walk out the door with your little Apple bag, that's actually an $849 phone.

Selling it 1 year later for $500 means it's actually depreciated by $349.

Edit: And there are always people looking to buy one off-contract for one reason or another. Unlocking is the most popular reason.

Make sense?

Do you really believe that? You sound like a glass half empty kind of person. Well, I've got news, the other half is full of air so the glass is actually full. So get on the LTE bandwagon already...cool? :p

Unlocked iPhones are much sought after internationally as they can be used on many carriers and contract free. That price is driven by such demand. You can check for yourself on ebay (search "iPhone 4S unlocked 32GB").

Unlocked wasn't even part of the original discussion. But yes, it does add additional value.

Why do I want this next iPhone? Because I want LTE and a larger screen. Why do I choose to upgrade every year? Because I went to college to get an excellent job, and they pay me every two weeks so that I can buy anything I want.

I was merely responding to someone's question why anyone in their right mind would pay $450+ for a jailbroken and unlocked iPhone.

I can get that much even locked. ;) Of course, its 32GB so.....

Edit: and nevermind....how rude of me...I see now he was originally replying to you (not sure why I thought it was me). :D

If you sell now, yes. Prices drop quite a bit after the new iPhone debuts so an easy way to make up for the price loss is to jailbreak and unlock it. Hence the $450ish for a jailbroken and unlocked 32GB last generation iPhone that you sell after you get your new replacement.
