Is a new phone every 18-20 months all that extravagant? The cost of using the phone is unchanged (assuming you stick with your original contract) so I don't see the big deal of putting out another $200-300 for a better phone every couple of years. Also, if you have an iPhone 4 you can unlock and sell it and not put any extra money out.

I'm not 100% positive I'll get the next iPhone, but 98.466% sure. As long as the phone doesn't weigh more than my iPhone 4, I'm all in. At $300 plus tax and activation we are talking about hardware that costs less than $1 a day over an 18 month period. Again, the service portion costs the same whether I keep my iPhone 4 or buy a new one. So really this is no big deal. Why not have the latest and greatest.

Because I can afford it, what for you can be a lot of money for me not so much.

My old iphone 4s soon be gifted, and I will buy the new model.

My iphone 4s works perfectly, but I like having the latest model, and I work for that, to buy what I want.

The old gunslingers always had to have the latest and fastest gun, because when you're pulling your thing out against someone across from you, you need all the advantages you can get.

Phoneslingers are exactly the same. Gotta be able to pull out the latest thing or you're gonna be shot down...

You know, stuff like fastest slide to open in the entire cubicle village, bestest bluetooth stack or tallest and meanest.

I'm a tech junkie and find having an iPad, iPhone and MBP an easy way to manage my digital world. Apple would have to utterly fail, implode and truly F-This up for me to cancel my already set mind to buy one.

Hey, I like the newest and latest cool gadget. Why not?

But, why are there so many people that are dying to buy something that we are not even positive about? What is so bad about their 4 or 4s? Or some of my family members that still have a "3" and doing just fine?

It just baffles me how many MUST HAVE this new phone since their old one is so, well, OLD!

Most will have to pay at least $200 to get the new one. Some are ready to pay $400 or even $800 to get this new thingie. Just amazing.
Why worry about what other people do or think about their mobile phone? Why do you even care?

My guess is:
2010 millions of people bought the "new, excellent Android phones" that were the Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Desire, HTC Legend, Droid X, Droid 2 etc

Now the 2 years of contract are over and all those people can finally get a phone that "just works"
Yes I am one of them and a lot of my friends are really happy, that their crappy time with an Android device is finally over (I kinda like Android in general, but what the manufacturers and cellular network operators make of it sucks)

I want to be able to tether with LTE speeds and I don't want to switch over to android so....

However, if the new iPhone for some reason has no LTE then I'll keep my 4s.
