are cydia apps still useable at the moment? ie, sbsettings, yourtube, winterboard, etc

does the dock reflection refelct any app put there? for example if i dont want the mail app will it refelct the messages app or an appstore app?

if you have a JB'd 3G(S) spiritjb will it update properly or will you be hooped?

Yes, the dock reflects any app that's put in it.

i have it on my 3gs, but i am running into an issue backing up the phone now that itunes was released for windows. I used my mac book pro to install ios 4 but now i am trying to sync it back to the pc. everything seems to work except the back up. I keep getting an error saying "iphone was not backed up because back up could not be save to computer." Is this because the os was installed on a mac and now it is formatted for a mac backup not a pc backup.

OK, this will be my first update just got a 3GS 8 months ago, what do I do so I won't lose everything on my phone? What the first thing I should push?

according to gamesonsmash it says to hold alt and click restore... I do that but gives me an option of cancel, back up before restore, or just restore without backup. It does not give me the option to select the ios4 file on my desktop..:confused:

discconect your iphone from the PC (not the USB cord) and hold Control and Shift while you start itunes you should be prompted about safe mode accept and try syncing over.

I've got it on my 3G. I'm not impressed with the performance. The new features are impressive, yes, but after installing iOS 4.0, my iPhone is acting like it's had its RAM sliced in half. The UI is nice and snappy immediately after a sync or restart, but soon after it becomes laggy and almost unusably slow. I've had far more apps crash than I did under OS 3, and the OS is so bad at memory management now that music playback from iPod.app will start stuttering just from trying to scroll a page in Safari.

I really hope this isn't the final GM build, because at least on the iPhone 3G, it needs a LOT of work. I'm getting an iPhone 4 next month and giving my iPhone 3G to my wife, and I really hope that by then the thing runs better than it does now, because right now it sucks.

Yup. It's dog slow on the 3G (from what I can tell).

I restored from a backup tho. Once the 'official' FW hits, I'll wipe the phone clean and give it another go.

I'm trying to install iOS4 onto my 3GS, but it gives me the message "cannot be restored at this time because the iPhone software update server could not be contacted".

Any idea what I could do?

I happened to be trying to restore too and am getting the same error!! My sync for some reason isn't ending... just keeps telling me it's syncing...

Going to install GM in a bit. Can someone just confirm for me that the iPhone does not have to be jail broken just to update to iOS4 GM with iTunes 9.2?

I don't have the GM on my iPhone, but I have the Mac OS 11 alpha release running on prototype dual hexacore Mac Pro with 128GB of RAM!!

I installed iOS 4.0 on my 3G, and I feel it is quite, ahem, snappier. This was done with a complete restore and all backups deleted. Furthermore I did this on a separate machine with an empty iTunes. I've added apps only back (i.e. no music, videos, photos, etc.) but the phone feels quite faster. Battery life is about 25% less of what it was, although this might be due to the fact that I have not re-lowered it from it's mid-level brightness default state.

No, it does not have to be jailbroken, but good luck. Everyone (including me) is getting errors (3002) when trying to update.

It works well, I like all of the new features, you know what they are.

What doesn't work:

Safari wont remember logins or sessions
Space button is more picky, I keep hitting the letters above the space bar.
AT&T mark the spot, Titan wars, and many more apps don't work at all.
Phone discharges very fast.

It was real sluggish on my 3G. I downgraded to 3.1.3. Considering that the 3G doesn't get any of the fun new features like multitasking or wallpapers or other stuff, theres really no point to upgrade other than app compatibility.

If I update to the GM can I still revert back to 3.1.3/05.12.01?

When I craigslist this thing I want to be able to sell it as unlockable

Did you make sure you option clicked the restore button rather than the update button and then selected the firmware?

Oh no... I wasn't trying to upgrade to 4.0 I was simply trying to restore my phone since I think I am having sync issues now with the 9.2 itunes on mac. It just won't connect to sync server ('unavailable')

Wonder how long this will take to fix itself...

RE: Error 3xxxx
Try doing a phone reset... home button + sleep button until it resets; I had errors restoring until I did this.

I know this is unrelated as I was just commenting on the restore server thing... BUT for my issue where the iphone was syncing for an extremely long time, I just left it there untouched and it eventually finished... almost an hour... sheesh that be be a one time thing.. now off to vacation (had to get that last sync in).
