The Bezel looks like crap. For some reason the Xr feels unbalanced in my hands compared to the XsMax. In all honesty initially the colors look cool, but quickly makes the Xr look like toys. Sticking with my XsMax

Is it what you expected or a disappointment?

It’s heavy & bulky. Missing 3D Touch big time in keyboard. Can’t move the cursor by pressing hard on keyboard. Watching YouTube videos it’s not breathtaking because of the bigger bezels. Love the colors, 720p display/resolution is not an issue. LCD backlight seems like coming direct from one source not versatile like oled. I have one question YouTube videos are showing an option of 1080p even though iPhone doesn’t have 1080p resolution, Is iPhone showing 1080p video? iPhone is very fast maybe because of lower resolution and powerful processor. Seems like faster than xs Max.

If you press the space bar you can indeed move the curser just fine. Time to actually use the phone a while before passing judgements on it! ;) Also come on it's not that damn heavy or bulky!

Thanks for spacebar tip, 3D Touch capable iPhones had full keyboard cursor movement. But that’s okay, I am still not comfortable with weight and the bulk.

I love the color options. I’m going to be getting a white one now to go with my red. It’s so refreshing to finally have some flair to the industrialized look of the X/XS series. Honestly no complaints at all so far it’s a great device. Cell service has been consistent so far as well

+1 on the lack of Oleophobic coating here too. It least it seems to be less than usual, complete smudge fest.

Am I missing something or does haptic Touch or whatever it’s called not work to quick reply from the lock screen anymore?

I know there’s no 3r Touch but thebhaptic still works for some functions (ie keyboard, lock screen camera and flashlight buttons). Thought I read it would work on notifications as well
Did you long press it? That would suck if that doesn’t work there.

Can you long press widgets in control center (like flashlight) to get their secondary screens like 3D Touch did?

Been using it for a few hours and these are my initial impressions:

1- the pre-release complaints about resolution and PPI were grossly overstated. The screen is beautiful
2 - except off access. You gotta look at it straight on. If that's not your use-case, this isn't your phone
3 - After about 3 hours of heavy usage with spotify running and the screen always on, I went from 95 percent to 79. That's damn good imo
4 - The speakers on this are great
5 - the phone, much like my old S7 Edge is the perfect size in my hand. The difference however is that the S7 had more real estate east-to-west, where as the XR is bigger north-to-south, which I'm finding that I truly truly hate. I can't imagine how much harder it would be to read websites on an XS if the text is already so small in Safari on my XR.
6 - this phone is fast

I'm not sold on keeping it though, which is too bad because other than #5, I love it, but #5 is a huge deal to me. If I'm having a hard time viewing websites, I'm not sure what can be done to fix it. Another issue is how videos are presented, which I guess I had heard about prior to buying an X-model phone, but I hate how black pillars are used unless I choose to zoom, which I refuse to do because that cuts out often important portions of the video. With the pillars, the videos are smaller than what I see on much smaller (but wider) phones.

Long pressing widgets in control center works as does long pressing the camera and flashlight buttons on the lock screen.

It seems that long pressing notifications ont he lock screen and Notification Center does absolutely nothing which is disappointing. It’s my only “complaint” with the device so far. Hopefully Apple adds it back in in the future.

I ended up getting the 128 GB product red. I’ve had it for a few hours, but haven’t really used it a lot yet as I was having trouble activating it so was mostly working with Verizon support over chat.

So far, great display and everything is sharp. While actually using the phone, I don’t notice the bezel. It’s probably like how a lot of people isn’t bothered by the notch. I’m coming from the 6+ and the 8, so if anything, I notice the notch more than the bezel. I haven’t really tried the off axis, but I don’t notice it much right now.

Since I’m coming from the 6+ and the 8.. I’m getting used to the Face ID and no home button. For now, it feels more like learning new muscle memory..

Haptic touch is fine. But I don’t think I’ll realistically use it that much. FWIW, I’ve barely used 3D Touch on my 8.

At home I don’t notice the size nor weight in my hands. I’ll wait till I go out and see how it feels in the pockets. It’ll be heavier than my other 2 phones for sure, should be more comfortable (height wise) compare to my 6+. I don’t mind the extra thickness since it’s supposed to mean a longer battery life.

It’s way too early to tell the battery life yet..

I’m just glad to be back to a larger phone (compared to my 8) with a larger display and longer battery life.

i think it would bother me not having an official iPhone silicone case on it. I hate that there isn't one for the iPad pro and the third party slim cases are kinda garbage.

Hopefully this is one of the areas that Apple is working to add more haptic touches to. Seems like a no brainer.

It’s both better than I expected and worse

Overall a good phone though

Pros:
  • Battery life!!!
  • Premium “XS” features at a cheaper price
  • Premium build feel. Feels just like iPhone 8/8+ quality
  • Blue colour. Red colour. The colours are fantastic!
  • Haptic touch is pretty neat
Cons:
  • It’s big and bulky and heavy. It really feels like a clunky afterthought at times
  • Display is good but for me, I can tell at this size it’s sub-1080p and i can’t un-see it
  • I’m also used to using iPhone X so I can see the thicker bezel every time I pick it up; also cannot un-see this as the bezel on the sides is actually thicker than the 6/6s/7/8
  • Lack of 3D Touch sucks, for me, cannot peek and pop
  • Having second thoughts due to the size and weight, thick bezels and screen I could get used to but man this thing is thick

Wait a minute, there are no official apple cases for the XR? Why?@Newtons Apple

They just haven’t released in store yet. But they’ll be there eventually

I’ve posted this in the XR tint shift thread..

I honestly don’t really notice the tint shift in mine. When it does shift, it doesn’t change that much. I’d have to really tilt the phone. The glare/reflection shows up way before the tint shifts so I can’t really tell what color mine shifts to as I see reflections so much more.

I’ve been thinking about how Apple can add more haptic touch as well to get close to functionality of 3D Touch (even though I rarely use it). What if there’s an option to allow a quick double “touch and hold” (one quick tap quickly followed by a press and hold) to still allow a pseudo-3D touch.. It’ll slowdown some of the single touch responsiveness though..
