Things I love: everything

Things I hate: nothing

Seriously, coming from the 7+, the XR is better in every way. My screen doesn’t have tint shift. It’s just as sharp (to my eyes) as the 7+. Battery seems to last forever. Size and weight are close enough that I can’t tell the difference unless I’m trying. Face ID is so much easier and faster than Touch ID. I’m already used to the new features that replace the home button.

I’m not at all second guessing my decision to get the XR over the XS. Max was never an option I even considered due to price.

Same here. Also to make a quick note, I have the same manual brightness set and the XR looks brighter than my 7Plus. The XR is very snappy too, guess one would expect that from a 2yr old chip architecture.

It is pretty bright. When I had my 7+ I kept it about 3/4. I have my XR set a bit lower. Still plenty bright and saving battery.

I've always kept mine at 3/4 on the brightness on my 6Plus & 7Plus. Battery seemed to last a good days worth. I'm expecting the same from XR with my daily usage. Nonetheless, it is brighter.

  • If it’s true that long press on notifications does nothing, that is an absolute deal breaker for me. I can’t give that up as I use it constantly. Can someone verify this for me...
Can verify that long press on notifications does nothing. I use 3D Touch all the time on my lock and notification screens and initially thought it was a dealbreaker too. However I never realized that all you have to do is slide the nbitifztiin left, hit view and then u can quick reply. Is it the same? Not at all but all I care about is. Wing able to quick reply so it’s just an extra step. I’m willing to make that trade off given the price difference between the Max and the Xr

Thank you. I will have to take a look at the XR this weekend at the Apple Store

Yeah, love 3D Touch but can try to live without it since iPads don’t have them.

I have mine but have to back up my 8 before moving forward. I like Kate Spade cases with the ring on the back. Got one at Verizon. Also need my screen protector on. Won’t take it anywhere until It’s protected.

Wondering if no home button is a huge adjustment. A little apprehensive about face recognition. Also what is the best Apple Care Plan this year. Understand it’s 249 which includes theft and loss. I only keep my phones one year. I believe there is a monthly plan but not sure what that covers. More research.

Appreciate everyone’s input. I’m not a techie so some issues may not matter. I should be up and running in a couple days. Looking forward to larger screen for retinal issues.

I love iPhone XR. I prefer the thicker bezel too. It frames the display nicely when you go with the black color. I seriously think this phone is close to perfect. I can’t think of anything I don’t like about it at this point.

I’ve posted this in the XR tint shift thread..

I honestly don’t really notice the tint shift in mine. When it does shift, it doesn’t change that much. I’d have to really tilt the phone. The glare/reflection shows up way before the tint shifts so I can’t really tell what color mine shifts to as I see reflections so much more.

I’ve been thinking about how Apple can add more haptic touch as well to get close to functionality of 3D Touch (even though I rarely use it). What if there’s an option to allow a quick double “touch and hold” (one quick tap quickly followed by a press and hold) to still allow a pseudo-3D touch.. It’ll slowdown some of the single touch responsiveness though..
That's an awkward implementation. They would rather leave it off.

but the least of the reasons why I won't buy that iPhone
Yeah it shouldn't turn people away imo, as the 6.1" screen holds more significance.

I just didn't think about this era of "edge to edge" iPhones having larger bezels (on any side) than prior era iPhones. I think the cropped top/bottom bezels of the X/XS/XR took my focus away from the sides.

If it was public info everyone would know. Since it’s not, again I ask why would anyone here know?

Because people can reasonably guess.

Why isn’t the iPhone available in a brown, pink, red, and gray stripe color?

Probably because that combo would be considered ugly by a lot of people

Ditto

I upgraded from my SGX. I only miss 3D Touch (which I only used to quick reply texts in Notification Center.) I love the screen, size and snappiness. Plus the battery is surprisingly longer lasting then my X. Pretty happy :)

I liked the phone a lot EXCEPT how thick and heavy it felt. It was a huge turnoff and I don’t think I’ll be upgrading from my 7.
I think the better phone for my hand and pocket would be a 7 with the XR screen and innards. But I like this XR, at least for the first 1/2 of the day I have used it. I’m quite impressed actually. The device is larger than I would have liked, and I imagine apple will sell a lot if they use this kind of look/tech in a smaller phone like the 6/7/8 or an SE sized phone. That would be pretty awesome.

I do think this phone is the Goldilocks of the bunch though. I think the other two are positioned with price and features to push more buyers to the XR. It worked on me, and I suspect they will sell loads of these phones this year. Other than the size, as we’ve stated, this is a pretty amazing phone.

I mentioned this earlier in a reply to someone else, but you can still do quick reply to texts in the Notification Center by swiping left on the notification and touching "view". Not exactly like 3D touch, but pretty close. I'd imagine this would be another good candidate for a haptic touch version in a future iOS update.
