that's what they always say — "We'd like to look into this further with you. Send us a DM, and we'll go from there."

it's a feature, not a bug.

maybe for ios13 we'll see more long presses to replace 3D touch.

Answer from Apple Support :

"Thank you for reaching out to us on DM. The behavior of Notification Center differs between the iPhone and iPad. On the iPhone, to view and respond to a notification you'd need to be using a model with 3D Touch. On the iPad, the long press will allow for view and respond to notifications directly from the Notification center. I hope Apple can implement this feuture with Haptic Touch in near future releases...

Although I’m fully aware the new XR doesn’t have 3D Touch, all my other non 3D Touch devices like the iPad Pro 10.5 v2 for example, allow me to press and hold any notifcfication from the lock screen to quickly interact with it from the lock screen rather than tap on the notification to fully open the associated app. When I press and hold the notification on the XR lock screen nothing happens.

I contacted Apple today and spoke with a senior technical adviser, to identify why this feature has been disabled on the XR where is works everywhere else and they told me they don’t know why.....my thoughts are that in order to create a very clear distinction between the XS and the XR apple are making a real point of the fact that the XR doesn’t have 3D Touch by stripping away useful features. What a surprise Apple....another ‘Brave’ counter intuitive decision to increase user workflow and make their lives harder!

Is anyone else with the XR experiencing the same behaviour?

Just to be clear I know I can replicate the ‘quick reply’ type behaviour from the lock screen by swiping a notification left and the selecting view, however this method just adds another click to achieve something that can be achieved on all other devices 3D Touch enabled or not, just by pressing any holding and when you use this action a hundred times a day, extra taps just become slow and cumbersome.

Just put the Same point above my friend....it’s a real pain! This has to be remedied in a future update surely, I spoke with apple and they said submit feedback about it on apple.com/feedback.......

It is true, it’s not even a 3D Touch thing either, iPads can do this just fine without 3D Touch using the long press!

Another thing I love is the gestures. Coming from an 8. Never having an iPhone with no home button I thought I’d reach for the home button a lot and would take me a while to get used to not having one.

I’ve reached for it twice. The gestures are just so intuitive. That come as a surprise to me.

Many of us have wished for some notification LEDs for years and years, I guess it was left over from my Blackberry days. Blackberry had the best I have ever seen.

After all these years of wishing, I gave up as it is not going to happen.

A small LED (blue?) would be a nice touch at the top of the iPhone by the cam/ear piece, not a blindingly bright one, just a nice pulse so we can see it.

One can only wish I guess.

Yep, with Blackberry you could program the small LED to any color, blinking or non-blinking for ALL notifications.

I wished for so many years my "wisher" is worn out hoping for a LED.

Apple is luxurious and classy. Notification light/s would make iPhone look little ordinary. I like notification free look.

I looked at the XR at the Apple store yesterday and coming from the XS, the only downside for me would be the increased size and weight. The colors are pretty, it's fast and the screen is beautiful. It is bright, white, even and sharp. Colors on the screen are great. Other than size I would be very happy with this phone.

I’m sorry to say that I’ve just updated to 12.1 and nothing has changed.....this is still not available. They are clearly waiting to create more marketing hype in the future when they try to convince us all that ‘haptic touch is now available on the notification and lock screen and just look how good we are bringing you these amazing new features that youre gonna love!

You should remain happy as I do not see Apple ever adding a tiny LED that could be disabled and would be so small you would not even see it unless it was lit.

These LED lights & things are all so Samsung. Doesn’t suit on Apple, btw new iPad Pro is dope :)

Things I love: everything

Things I hate: nothing

Seriously, coming from the 7+, the XR is better in every way. My screen doesn’t have tint shift. It’s just as sharp (to my eyes) as the 7+. Battery seems to last forever. Size and weight are close enough that I can’t tell the difference unless I’m trying. Face ID is so much easier and faster than Touch ID. I’m already used to the new features that replace the home button.

I’m not at all second guessing my decision to get the XR over the XS. Max was never an option I even considered due to price.
I do not understand how anyone can love this phone. I hate it sooooo much i cant believe i was so stupid and bought it. Im on here trying to figure out why people even think this is an acceptable cell phone. Im so mad apple put out this complete piece of garbage.

You should really state what you find wrong with it, otherwise your post is a meaningless rant and adds nothing to the conversation.

You only have yourself to blame. If it is so god-awful, as you say, then I would think a semi-intelligent person would be able to see the deficiencies before they purchase. Or, at the least, return it within your return period and put yourself out of your "misery".

This, ladies & gentlemen, is a Grade A elementary school-level rant.

“This is stupid”.
“I can’t put up with this crap”.
“This is ridiculous”.

Congratulations for providing your deep considerations on the matter in such an eloquent and elegant manner.

Dude, I won't repeat the 4, 5 posts above mine, but this rage over a phone... Is it really about the phone?

PS - Like the VAST Majority of people with Xr, I love my phone! And I started with the OG...

Like:
- The battery lasts a full day
- Wireless charging is too handy
- The increase screen size is welcomed over my 7
- FaceID works very well
- Despite the "low" resolution compared to other phones in this price point, you can't deny it's a great display.

Dislike:
- iOS makes the supposed top-of-the-line A12 SoC feel no faster compared to my 7
- Apple's Imaging Processing I feel is too aggressive in noise reduction in low light, I'd rather more noise for more sharpness
- The Bezels
- The price I feel is getting too close to the point I'd switch to a more affordable Android.
- I wish TouchID was still included
- I miss 3D touch

It's going to be interesting to see what the XR replacement in October is going to bring to the table.

Not owning an XR, but have been playing with one more often these days as people around me owning them.

Like:
- gestures. It's more natural than I thought it would be (coming from my iPad Pro 10.5). The fluidity helps, and hopefully Apple keeps the frame rate and responsiveness at maximum as any stutter, no matter how small, will suck the life out of the gestures.
- camera. It's awesome. It's leaps and bounds better than my 6S. The portrait mode is great as well, and since it doesn't need telephoto distance, I see people using it more often than not.

Dislike:
- keyboard. feels a lot of wasted space at the bottom, and they moved the language switch. Not used to it.
- haptic feedback. The phone sometimes vibrates on things that I don't expect to vibrate. I never feel that many "vibrations" on my 6S on normal use.

Neutral:
- size. It's in the middle of just right and too big. It's not that big, but at the same time not that ideal either.
- 3D touch. I don't use it that often on my 6S, but I definitely miss some 3D touch gestures on the XR.

The XR is a great upgrade to my iPhone 6! The best feature by far is the vastly improved battery life. Second is the also heavily improved camera and image quality. I have no problem at all with the display quality. It is definitely much better than the iPhone 6 display.

FaceID is sometimes annoying when the phone is laying flat on the table. In this cases a have to type in the code because I am too lazy to pick it up. So the combination of FaceIT and TouchID (maybe with the new technology from the Galaxy 10) would be my favorite solution.

The improvement in display size is nice but I miss the the design elegance and the optimisation regarding size and weight of my iPhone 6. I accept that the phone is somewhat bigger because I love the battery life and bigger display but I think they could have made it much smaller, thinner and lighter (maybe intentional to have a visible downgrade to the XS and XS Max) than it is. Compared to the elegant sports car like look of the iPhone 6 the XR looks more like a robust SUV. Sometimes I miss my 6....

It's going to be interesting to see what the XR replacement in October is going to bring to the table.

Just a few things in contrast:

1.) I gathered those are your own perceptions of your dislikes, but I think the bezel argument is really frivolous. I mean, coming from where the iPhone was with the iPhone 8 into the transition with the XR, I have never heard or discussed with anyone outside a tech site about the bezels on the XR.

2.) I really don’t think the price is that unreasonable for the XR at $750, could it be cheaper? Maybe, but I still think for everything that’s offering and how close it is in competition to the XS, it really is the better value, especially being that the consumer just sees the form factor and Face ID, they don’t care about things like stainless bands and OLED panels.

3.) 3D Touch is a really nice advantage to have, but with further implementation of using a software version of 3D Touch on the XR, it is expanding, and Even though it’s not exactly like 3D touch, it is still very functional like 3D Touch.

4.) The 2019 XR, if I updated, (Which I suspect it will be), I think will be very minor, and include a dual camera and maybe some additional colors, but that is about it. Keep in mind, the more capabilities and features the add, that only one crease the price point, which is what the consumer doesn’t want.

Since this thread has been bumped back up I figured I’d add that after having mine since shortly after release, I still absolutely love it.

If I could change anything, I’d lose the notch, there would be no bezels at all, and it would do portrait mode on everything like the 8+ and XS (although I like having only one camera lens enough that IDK which I’d prefer).

Obviously the notch is what it is, and it’ll go away when Apple can make that happen.

The bezels don’t bother me, but of course I think ALL the phones would look better with none at all.

Would I like it to weight a little less? I suppose that could never hurt, but I love the battery life, and don’t mind a little extra weight to get it.

Overall, still one of my favorite iPhones ever.
