So been holding out on this one for a while (its definitely paid for itself over the past few years as carriers have gone through the Unlimited->Tiered->Unlimited transitions).

Now that carriers have finally come full circle, seems like its time to finally get rid of this old plan and jump to ATT's new unlimited plan. With the recent hike current price I am paying is $95, so it looks like the new unlimited plan is $5 cheaper at 90.

Any other holdouts on here? What are you guys planning on doing?

(and before I get any comments about how ATT sucks and there are way cheaper carriers...I know, but I have and old corporate lifetime discount on the line which gives me 20% off so I'm paying closer to $70).

That's my same decision. I currently still have my UDP plan with a FAN discount of 20%, $105/month when it's all said and done. If this plan is truely unlimited everything and they would honor my FAN discount, I think I'm going to jump as well.

I'm still a bit hesitant though, I know there's a catch or something else will come out of this in a few months.

I called today and I was told that they will not honor FAN discounts on the new plan, the new plan goes into effect on the 2nd.

Honestly, there's no reason to keep a grandfathered UDP -- it's now one of the worst value plans you can have since you get no tethering, no ability to add additional lines, and really poor international / Canada / Mexico coverage.

I think the tether is per account. That's what Verizon told me anyway. The 10 gbs.

No, that is false.
Verizon reps are not very well informed like most company reps. :D
This 10GB hotspot is per unlimited data plan line. Its not per family plan since there is no shared anything at all.
Every line is individual, unlimited and doesn't effect the other lines in the plan.

I'm staying. There are still scenarios where it makes sense, like mine. The big difference is this:

Do these new plans also give "free" data for direct tv now? Btw, isn't that also another added perk of the new plans? (DirectTV Now rebate of subscribed)

Man, this is a tough one. I have held on to the "Unlimited Plan" since the first iPhone at $20, that plan is now $40. Paying for 700 minutes and unlimited texting. Added a second line with a 3 GB plan. For the first time, an option actually comes out cheaper. I feel like there has to be a catch, but the tethering and unlimited everything is very inciting. As others have said, seems like a good time to lock in to the next round to being "grandfathered in."

Yep I agree. That's what I did.
I agree! I got sick of ATT screwing us. I switched over to T-mobile and am trying it out in Los Angeles (I could not pass up the unlimited everything for $56. If T-mobile sucks, i will switch to Verizon

I agree, and I actually switched to T-Mobile on Saturday but ported back yesterday because part of me is nervous that they may lack the coverage that att has, especially in upstate NY, I got my Grandfathered udp back and now I'm waiting to switch to the plus version.still a few bucks more than T-Mobile one but I guess I get what I pay for ..

So you had a plan with Tmobile for 1.5 days and you switched back to AT&T?
Give it at least a month to test it out, you got a little too nervous too fast:D

YMMV (obviously), but unless you've got the highest FAN discount AT&T offers or you have the best minute and texting legacy plan to go along with your UDP, it's tough to justify staying.

You can save money with T-Mo or buy demonstrably better service (and features) on Verizon IMO.

Ok just posting what I was told. Thanks for clearing it up.

That would really suck if they don't honor the discounts for new plans :(
Just got my bill today and AT&T totally gave us the shaft. FAN discounts do not apply to the new unlimited plans. If you search out FAN discounts on the ATT page, there is a disclaimer at the bottom, but I'm almost certain that they didn't give me the disclaimer or require me to acknowledge this when I switched in the ATT portal.

Their stupid bill estimator also didn't throw up any red flags because it shows you gross cost of your existing plan (prior to FAN discount being applied) and the gross cost of the new plan (to which discount isn't applicable). If the two numbers are the same (as was in my case), one would assume that the net price would go down.......but take away the FAN discount and there is no difference. Shady bastards!
