do not compare CRT glossy screens to laptop glossy screens. most quality CRTs are anti-glare coated indicated by the subdued, purple tinged reflection. Not like the literal unabated reflections found on most glossy laptop lcd panels. Apples and oranges people.

the macbook pro glossy screens including the Unibody model are not that reflective when compared to the panels of HPs and others for some reason. Those are just too reflective

Well the 17" MBP's currently in production that have a glossy screen still have the option for anti-glare coating at least.

In the same boat, and MacMall is looking pretty sweet. I'm close to pulling the trigger on the MBP 15.4" 2.6GHz at $1749.99, savings of about $949 after $150 mail-in rebate. Still want to checkout the new MBP at the Apple Store before MWSF '09...

yeah the early 08 MBP wil be better at pretty much everything i can think of.

depends on whether you want the increased portability, or the increase in graphical power and bigger(and miles better) screen.:)

Also if you are one of these people that doesnt like glossy screens then the MBP is your perfect choice.

At the price they are going at the minute the MBP is one of the most bargainous laptops around.

Get one you wont regret it.:)

The old MBPs are a better bargain at the moment while the new MBPs are better machines, with one arguable exception for some which is the glossy screen. Here at MR IMO the glossy screen has become overblown into more of a red herring than a real issue, which I can say as one of the glossy skeptics who actually likes it now!

The new MBPs are better machines, but for what the OP is using it wont be a noticeable difference.

There is a very slight difference and in the real world the older MBP will be powerful enough for most peoples needs for at least 3 years.

it is up to the OP and which design he prefers and what is justifiable for him to spend the cash on:)

Sorry for the slight thread hijack, but has Apple hinted at coming out with a matte option for the next MBP revision?

Nope, Mr. Jobs stated that they omitted the matte option as most people ordered glossy ones. In conclusion i´d not expect a matte option
