old music files to iPhone while having Apple music

I have some old albums (mp3 format) that aren't on Apple Music and I would like to play them on my phone (preferably in the Music app) while still subscribing to Apple Music. Is there a way to do this?

I do this with iTunes on my pc - the only reason I have iTunes. Sync iTunes with Apple Music, and in iTuned find "add folder to library" (at work, can't remember exactly where it is). Done.
