Maybe I haven’t been paying attention, but I haven’t seen a single thread/post with an example of burn in on the X - I’m sure someone will point me to a list of threads now :). I can see it happening to a store model possibly, but I don’t consider that a relevant use case.

Had zero problem with mine.

Ive got a 65” LG B7A OLED, the closest I’ve experienced to burn in was image retention, not the same thing, off the Stardew Valley hud. I’d been marathoning it for days. It quickly disappeared though, and I’ve played loads of games since and never experienced it again.

Always puzzles me why the LG phone OLED panels are apparently not great, when their tv’s are utterly magnificent.

If the 6.5 X does release, I expect it to have an LG panel. I’m willing to accept that, but the side by side comparisons should be interesting.

Yeah that ain’t happening. It will be Samsung . LG excuse for using LCD was because of brightness but it has a 1,000 nit screen when Samsung made the Note 8 a 1,200 nit screen. Don’t remember the numbers for the X or S9 so didn’t use those. And considering Apples and Samsungs history they would of went with LG for the X but went with Samsung because of production yields

OLED panels can burn in. Is there a significant amount doing it I doubt it.

All screens will burn-in if given the chance.

OLED is more prone.

Just use your phone and enjoy it. Odds are that you will find a new phone in a couple years to replace it with before you have any burn-in issues.

I would say it depends on how many units Apple needs for the 6.5 iPhone X and can Samsung provide those XYZ units besides the 5.8 OLED panels. Either way, I think when Samsung’s contract ends, Apple was/is looking to diversify, and LG was one of the contenders. We won’t know who the supplier for the 6.5 iPhone X panel is until either through a verified leak or an ifixit break down.

I have no doubt that Samsung could supply all the oled panels for both the 5.8 inch and 6.4 inch to the quality and timescale that Apple need. However we know that Apple don’t want to only rely on Samsung and have invested in LG looking to the future. I think it all depends on how many of the 6.5 they intend to sell. If it’s not that many then they can get LG to make them. However if they expect to sell a fair amount then they will need to use Samsung as LG won’t be able to keep up with demand.

In terms of quality, Samsung is the only logical choice that can meet their demand at least for the 5.8 iPhone X, there really isn’t a lot of viable options for the OLED panel market for Apple other than LG at this point, which they primarily have been in the smart TV sector and they’ve had some reported issues with their smart phone panels. However in terms of having multiple suppliers and cost relations, I doubt Apple wants to rely solely on Samsung, eventually when/if all their iPhones will be OLED aside from the 6.1 rumored LCD iPhone.

I would be it on being Samsung especially after the whole pixel 2XL issues. I don’t see LG capable of supplying screens for the LG V35 , pixel 3( I would assume google rather supply from them then Samsung?) and iPhones. Just don’t see how LG can meet the demand but who knows maybe they can.

I worried some about burn-in when I first purchased my X. But I've gradually forgotten about it. I've taken drives an hour or two long with my phone running Maps the whole time and not had any issues at all. Not a hint of burn-in on my display.

As for who manufactures this panel or the one on the iPhone 11, I wouldn't worry about it. Whether Apple contracts with Samsung, LG, or whoever, they will write their own specs for how those panels are made.

Having maps open while navigating won’t cause burn in because the screen will constantly update.

The issue is not so much the map area, which is constantly moving and updating, but the static banners and other icons. Anything that is bright, high contrast, and stays on the screen for a long period of time is liable to cause burn-in.

I see, but don’t think 1-2 hours is going to make any difference. That’s just within normal usage.

An hour or two here and there should not make too much of a difference. Long-term usage in those situations is where the risks start to elevate.

My Note 3 has minor burn in. However it's pretty old. I'd say that it won't be a big deal until years later. My V30+ has no burn in and it's about a year old.

It does suffer from slight black crush though. So if they use LG in their new panels, hope they've improved on that.

Just went to YouTube for a search and there's nothing really. There are complaints with some other phones, but nothing much with this search. If there was an issue it would be all over the place, me thinks.

You have to use caution when using YouTube for referencing Apple products, there are a lot of paid advertisers that will exacerbate issues to make them seem bigger than they are. Most times, I find users on tech sites like this are more open and true about their experiences, which I would say OLED burn-in is a very *minor* issue with the iPhone X.

Appears you might be mistaken. As I mentioned before, it seems LG might be a supplier for the 6.5 iPhone X Plus based off this rumor posted today:

https://www.macrumors.com/2018/06/28/lg-supply-2-4-million-oled-panels-iphone-x-plus/

Rumors are well rumors and that’s that just rumors. LG is still relatively new to the mobile phone display for OLED with them recently making them again. There will probably be LG V40 , the V35 , V30, pixel 2 XL and probably pixel 3 and 3XL which I don’t see google using Samsung but who knows. You probably don’t want LG making them anyways since Samsung is superior as well.

My iPhone X, which I bought in November, has burn in.

Wondering if Apple warranty covers it? Any ideas?

Most modern OLED screens account for this by shifting pixels according to a set schedule. The shift is slight and you won't notice. But it prevents burn in from having any particular pixel lit for an extended length of time.

I turned that feature off on my LG OLED immediately. It has zero proven benefit and REALLY annoys me in video games especially.

One of the main reasons i opted for the 8 instead the X is screen burn in! I have searched a couple of pages back and haven’t found a thread about this issue so forgive me if it has been discussed a lot before...

Come September i want to try an OLED model and i was wondering if anyone with an X that bought it as soon as it came out (almost a year ago) discovered burn in issues with his display.

Thanks
I was one of the lucky few who got my preordered iPhone X on day one of launch, and I have no burn-in and still love the phone and the beautiful screen.
