The success of the MacBook Neo may push Apple to skip the A19 Pro chip to make sure they have enough stock for the Neo's 2nd generation seeing as this is a problem with the A18 Pro right now.
They will probably give the iPad Mini the A20 Pro chip, and use binned A19 Pro chips for the Neo, which keeps in line with the Neo using previous gen iPhone chips. The new Mini looks fantastic though, good to see Apple giving it a lot of love which it deserves.

Sort of funny the article starts out saying "Apple is close to launching its next-generation iPad mini" then ends with dates all over the place -- 2027 first, then late 2026 and lastly maybe sometime in 2026. In other words, they don't have a clue.

Maybe it's just me, but 2027 isn't close.

and extending to a display
Yes, this is on my wish list, too! Now that we know the MacBook Neo can do it, I don't think we have an excuse for saying the A-series chips, or at least any Pro newer than that one, just can't do it anymore. 🙂

We each have a Mini v7 with 512 GB memory. It does what it was designed to do and both are operating just fine.

Battery is still at maximum capacity. Got them in October 2024 so not even two years old yet. We live in the desert so water proof is not high on our list.

Think we will pass on this upgrade.

"Gurman has previously argued that Apple should consider a lower-end version of the mini, or at least a change to its current $499 starting price, given that it's up against rival products that cost a lot less."

I like the idea of the 2-tier iPM. but... There are so many choices for iPads right now that it seems unlikely. The choices in the Mini are already numerous (Memory 3, Cellular y/n, Apple Care y/n, color 4 = 48) and the iPads as a group offer 4 other models each with their own group of choices. I'm not too excited about the possible non-speakers, but most of the predicted changes are welcome, and a price increase would be expected.
As always, your mileage may vary.

Nobody buying an iPad mini is asking for desktop-class performance. Just give us 120Hz and better battery life already.
Yeah this.

Just give me the best possible display and Pro Motion so I can watch YouTube on it day to day, and for movies/shows when I travel.

Will do a bit of browsing and shopping on it too.

I don't use my 11" iPad Pro OLED for anything else at all. Used daily, for those things, but for nothing else. So power is almost a waste....

Learned nothing new from this article. Guess that's why I barely frequent this site anymore. You guys really fell off.

The fact that the a20 pro will probably outperform a 10 core base m4 is kinda insane. The power will be there for this to be a gaming beast.

Starting for real in the 27 series Apple software will be invasive AI. Will it work properly and protect the user's private information?

Just something to consider.

...what makes you think it will outperform a 10 core M4? The A18 Pro barely beats the M1. The M4 is more as twice as performant as the M1, an A20 Pro isn't gonna beat it.

I am much more interested in a OLED Mini than in a folding iPhone. I would buy an iPad Mini Pro in a heartbeat if it had Pro Motion OLED and FaceID. My phone comes with me on back country hikes and gravel road adventure bicycle rides, I do not want to take a folding phone into those environments.

Same. I'm worried Apple is going to try to make the iFold the place where iPad Mini users are supposed to go.

(which I won't)

I would happily accept a $50 price increase if it meant Apple stopped sneaking in subpar components and gave us a high quality display (does need to be iPad Pro quality but on par with the iPhone 17 base model would be great).

People who want a cheap smaller tablet should buy either a used iPad mini (the 7 will still be a great option for years) or a cheaper Android/amazon tablet.

Apple only makes ONE mini iPad. It should be a good one. If you only want something cheap there are so many options. Small does not mean cheap. If you want a quality small tablet it’s really difficult to find.

Agreed.

In my opinion, the Mini 6/7 have the worst quality screen on any device Apple sells new right now.

I have no idea what spec about it makes it so, but it's just really bad in comparison to anything else they offer, again, on any device at all.
