An iPad mini is also something which you can let younger children handle. An expensive foldable not so much.

Yeah, threads about MBP owners buying a Nano started me thinking about the advantages of having a 'cheap' device for high risk situations. I do a lot of traveling, and someone grabbing a phone out of your hands and disappearing into the crowd is a big problem in many of the places I go. It can make sense to separate out the tech a bit.

In less than pristine areas, a cheap burner phone will make calls just as well as an iPhone and less likely to draw unwanted attention......

Yeah I think most people overlook how many pilots use the iPad mini. Not sure Apple will do much to disrupt this group, let alone get rid of the device.
We desperately need a sunlight viewable iOS device with an antiglare screen and adequate thermal headroom for EFBs in small planes. My CFIs iPad overheated and mine was giving me a warning in Florida today. ILS approach was briefed and I had just gotten established but from now on I will have the plate preloaded on my phone and have my backup iPad closer at hand.

“According to the latest rumors, Apple is close to launching its next-generation iPad mini”. 2027 is close I guess.

Any upgrade/update would be welcome as long as the physical size remains the same and they keep the Touch ID.

"Apple patents could offer further clues to the new design direction. For example, a 2014 patent outlines a "mechanically actuated panel acoustic system" that vibrates flat surfaces to generate sound, effectively turning parts of a device's chassis into a speaker diaphragm. This could potentially allow Apple to produce audio without visible speaker holes. The patent suggest Apple has been building towards a sealed, vibration-based acoustic system for several years."

Sony has been doing this for YEARS now with its TV's, it is not a new revelation at all... and I would just love to see how they make a flat piece of allumiium sound like a speaker.. But the again the front will be glass. Sony use their screens for the vibration which are plastic on their OLED TV's. Hmm maybe Apples implementation will differ?

...what makes you think it will outperform a 10 core M4? The A18 Pro barely beats the M1. The M4 is more as twice as performant as the M1, an A20 Pro isn't gonna beat it.

Don't know if it will surpass the M4, but the A19 Pro chip is plus or minus at the level of the M3 chip, so there is a chance that the A20 Pro chip will be around the performance of the M4.

My Ipad Mini 6 has been replaced for my Macbook Neo with Iphone Pro Max.

I love the portability of the Mini 6 but with a max pro seldom grabbing it anymore and for the more involved work i use the neo.

Reading is done on a proper e-ink device, i dont draw nor play games.
The time of tablets has passed for me, back to basics.

Can’t wait for this. I really hope Apple finally brings proper external display support to the iPad mini — not just screen mirroring. MagSafe would be an awesome bonus too.

Yeah having a sunlight viewable device would be a big deal. I’m not sure Apple is looking to do that though.

Wow I haven’t heard of iPads overheating during flight. That would freak me out on approach. Are you using yoke mounts?

Also, sounds like you’re working on your instrument rating. I hope it’s going well.

I will probably pass next mini, whatever it will be - I'm good with my mini's here.
My A17 Pro (7) 128G, as my primary iPad mini, it will be fine for awhile.
I have another, the 6, for some occasional stuff, notes etc, mostly used as a meditstion-timer though 🧘🏼‍♀️
OLED or not? Not my priority for now.

Needs a brighter screen than the 7th gen, either way probably buying one and passing the 7th gen on to my hubby.
