Not sure I see it as really superior over the mini LED that the Macbook Pros have right now. Granted, the OLED that is ready in 2025 might be way better than what we have now.

Considering the MacBook Air isn't on Mini LED yet, I would expect them to transition it when the MacBook Pros go OLED. Then again the 11 inch iPad Pro isn't Mini LED either, and not even sure why they haven't transitioned it(stocks clearly not a problem, size clearly isn't a problem either ), I guess it's possible they'll do it simultaneous with the OLED 12.9" Pro?

I welcome such a display. But curios how well it’s going to be made, hopefully the components that comprise such a screen is of quality, seeing how Apple likes to drive down costs of components and production, just to release a ho-hum product. Time will tell.

An oled macbook air would be glorious!
I'd definitely get one, for light computing and content consumption.

Unfortunately in my work I'm subject to having the same interface on display for multiple hours, so OLEDs are a nono, but at the same time the mini-LED (as gorgeous as it looks) isn't fast enough to update for animation work (I tried it myself...it just doesn't work...)
I'm in one of the few industries where a good 'ol LCD is still king.
Ideally an OLED with a traditional sub-pixel array and no risk of burn-in would be the perfect solution.
For now I'll stick with 2 separate displays, one for content making and one for content consumption.

Add WiFi 7 to every iPad/MAC/iPhone upgrade released in future, otherwise just delay the upgrade until you have it.

I thought micro-LED was meant to be the future and the natural successor to mini-LED?

Check back when the year reads 203X and maybe we'll be at a stage where MicroLED has reached economies of scale and 110" isn't the smallest you can get for the low, low price of $149,999. Until then, OLED is the best screen technology you'll find by a wide margin. And besides... mini-LED describes the backlight of an LCD screen. OLED and MicroLED are self-emissive, no backlight. MicroLED is the successor to OLED.

I would think OLED wouldn't be such a great idea for laptop. I say that because I have static images on my screen for twelve+ hours a day. I would think burn in would happen easily if that's done with an OLED display.

So basically I need to grab a MacBook Pro until the the Air gets released with OLED, then I'll be good with Air's forever on:) I do hope they find a way to add an SD Card reader or port on the right side too, near perfection for most users. (outside of people that just need more power or fans to keep machine cool over hours)

Is this true? I thought Mini LED beats OLED in brightness for large screens.
No it's not. Mini LED beats OLED in terms of brightness.

Beside, OLED still suffers from burn-in especially from high brightness that iPhone 15 Pro can't even sustain.

Why do people keep thinking that Apple will switch to OLED? There was an article not that long ago that mentions Apple buying LuxVue

Apple REALLY gets up to some BS sometimes, and these default RAM/SSD capacities is definitely the worst BS that has been going on for well over ten years now. Funny, I would’ve paid for 16 GB /2 TB internal storage if it was reasonably priced, but since it’s absolutely insane, Apple lost out on a customer willing to pay more for more storage!

Okay so, as someone who finds OLED screens uncomfortable, I’ll be that guy getting the last LCD Apple device, hoping for them to last as long as possible. I already have the iPhone SE 3 (a deliciously compact device), an 11” M2 iPad Pro, and my last purchase will probably be either a maxed out 12” MacBook (if Apple reintroduces it again), or an M3Pro/M4 Mac mini with an Apple Studio Display.

And I’m really crossing my fingers for those devices to be supported by Apple software at least until 2030, without loosing a lot of features (I already assume that I’m not going to fully enjoy the upcoming generative AI features coming on iOS 18, at least locally). We’ll see, I just hope Apple doesn’t expel me from their ecosystem and by then, we will have microLED, and that technology will be easier on my eyes than OLED.

But… what am I doing worrying about 2030 tech?! Maybe there’s a new leading tech company by then! Or maybe I’m blind or dead, who knows! I should worry less about the far future, because a cataclysm such as a new world war, or an intense solar flare could send us back to the pre-digital era.

So I’m buying the latest tech with LCD, and enjoy it while they last. Some of us should learn to live in the present moment. I swear I try.
This is exactly my issue. I have no desire to have an OLED screen or to pay for one. I’m perfectly content with my iPad Pro, and have been considering optimizing with the M2, likely the last iPad not to have an OLED screen. The only thing is I also want to optimize for AI with an updated NEURAL ENGINE and I have a lot of fear that any of the AI features that Apple will bring out will be requiring the newest device. It’s a quandary and no mistake.

OLED Macbook Air maybe 2 years after Pro. A long time away. Will be great for both the iPad Pros (11" and 13") to have same screen technology.

I, too, have zero desire for an OLED display for a computer. It might be fine for a watch, and that's about it AFAIC.

And to put it bluntly: the current computer displays are already surpassing the need for them.

People have just gotten hooked on the idea of a computer/mobile-device as some sort of stimulant, just another thing to buy to make us feel better by giving gifts to ourselves.

I fully agree with your comment. The problem why some of us want the most powerful machines, is because Apple software will eventually slow down on those devices released a few years ago.

However, I too think that our current chips, from the A14/M1 onwards, are perfectly capable of most of the features Apple has in mind. And of course, are perfectly capable of moving a mobile operating system, present or future.

This is even more evident with macs, or course. The current macs, especially the M1 onwards, are perfectly capable of moving macOS, current and future versions.

OLED is superior to Mini-LED. Micro-LED is the technology currently being developed and superior to OLED, at least in theory.

Since OLED panels are projected to come in 2026, there's really no need to wait to upgrade to the new Macs, it's a while away.
