Really? Are you sure?
It doesn't seem like that's the case unless I'm missing something?

Screen resolutions:

14" MBP: 3024/1964 = 1.5397148676
16" MBP: 3456/2234 = 1.5470008953

16/10 = 1.6

note the black bar on the top of my screenshot. that's the menubar/notch area

the remaining area in use is 16:10

just remove the dam notch
Yes, please. I'm still on my 2013 rMBP specifically this reason. I take voting with my wallet very seriously, and -- to me -- the notch is one of the worst computer hardware design abominations ever conceived. And what's worse is that it was foisted upon an otherwise incredible product.

Cue the "But you don't even notice it after a while!" or "Don't you understand that with the notch Apple is actually giving you more screen space?" comments.

I understand and accept that a lot of you think it's fine, and that's great. Part of me wishes I felt that way. I don't. To me, it really is that irksome. And I did actually try to get over it. After holding out for a few years, I bought an M3 Pro MBP from the Apple refurb store to see if all the folks saying you get used to it or that it's no big deal might actually be right. By the time I got to the end of the 15 day return period, I found I still strongly disliked it, so I returned it while I still could.

you can just put a black bar along the top or your screen and the notch disappears

Day 1 purchase for me. Hate the weight of the current pro. I could get an air but 60hz LCD is unacceptable in 2025 for that price.

Thinner to thicker to thinner. Interesting.
If Apple had used the current design during the Intel era, they wouldn’t have had the throttling issues. Then they could have switched to the design that they actually did use during the late Intel era and everyone would have said that the thinner design was a perk of Apple Silicon.

The old adage 'buy when you need to buy is gonna bite me on this one as I suddenly need a new Mac Book Pro and really hate buying this late in the design life of a particular model, but I cant wait till next year, and most likely late next year.

Doesn’t the M4 Pro have enough updated specs?
Up to 14 CPU cores (10 performance + 4 efficiency cores)
Up to 20 GPU cores
273GB/s memory bandwidth
Thunderbolt 5 support (up to 120Gb/s)
Only $2149 for the 24GB RAM/1TB on Amazon

The M4 Pro is a beast. I'm still using my 5 year old Intel 16" for work, which does the job ok, but the M4 Pro just sails through more demanding stuff when I need it. It's going to be years since I'll need to upgrade again.

My take on this is that Apple is letting out all these 2026 rumors to protect M4 MBP sales, and at the same time create desire in us users for an all-new MBP.
Conclusion: All new MBP OLED M5 in 2025

So basically I should get the 2025 MacBook Pro before they screw up battery time and the speakers to have a thinner design for a few years?

I’ve been buying and using Macs for over 30 years now, and experience has taught me to buy (if I’m due an update) when the general consensus says the current model is a good one and at a decent price, as the next one might be an expensive lemon.

There are a few things that could be better with the M4 Pro MBP I bought - the keyboard is a bit clicky, and…yes…it’d be nice if it was notchless (though it’s not an issue), but feature and power wise it’s an excellent choice, and strangely better value than my last MBP. The M4 Mini too is on my list, as again it actually works out £200 cheaper for the same spec as my current M1.

There’s some relatively good deals to be had now, for some exceptionally powerful devices. And who knows where prices are going to go in the current global economic climate?

I was speaking more to the physical design of hte laptop, which is supposedly going to be updated next year. With that I expect wifi 7 as well.

Please show us a trend in Windows OLED laptops that are suffering from burn-in. Do you have a Windows laptop with OLED? I do. I have 2. Both are ASUS and both are spectacular 3K 120Hz OLED's and both were around $500 each with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. One has Snapdragon ARM chip and gets about 12 hours battery life. The screen has a built in OLED care that kicks in after 30 minutes of idle time. Windows and Mac allow you to hide your menu bar. Y'all are missing out on OLED while Apple "perfects it", but at what cost? Imagine the cost of an OLED-based Apple MacBook!!

To add to this - I've been using an LG C1 as my desktop monitor at home since it came out in 2021 and have no hint of burn in anywhere on it. It's fantastic. I'm not even doing anything special to take care of it - no black wallpaper or auto-hiding UI elements.

Changing displays is not going to require that much, the panel is only on the lid chassis, that is minor modifications to its fit if the display ever changes.

So the rumor ultimately is that the M6 design is being updated to a thinner design with possibly no notch. it will have been 5 model years in the current design so we could expect a new chassis in 2026 or 27 at the latest.

It's also the most expensive tablet on the market and out of the reach of most people. With Apple, affordability is definitely an OLED trade-off.
Tandem OLED's are expensive. There aren't any laptops or other tablets using tandem OLED displays that I'm aware of.

We do not need them thinner or lighter .... that applies to Ipad, Iphone as well ... BTW

Do we need thinner MacBooks? They are thin enough.
Yep, and why so fast and powerful? Let's make them chunkier and slower. Who needs more power? Who needs them to be easier to carry around for extended periods of time? And why aluminum? What's wrong with iead? Let's add all the ports we can think of while we're at it. A nice VGA port would be handy.

if someone needs super thin they can get Air? MBP is for work...

Sure, but what I really want is an Air with a ProMotion OLED display, a thin sharp design, and maybe a Thunderbolt port on the right hand side... sounds like Apple is more or less making that, but it's going to cost more than the current Air, so they'll call it a MacBook Pro.

And I'm not saying the Pro has to be "super thin", just that the current one is a bit chunkier than it needs to be. Apple are perfectly capable of making a thinner Pro that still has the same great performance and battery life.

What are the anti-notch folks expecting the notch to be replaced with? It’s got to be either a thicker bezel, or a pill/hole-punch, right? Or is there some other solution in the works?
