Thinner? Haven't they learned from the butterfly keyboard yet?

The keyboard on the current MBA is fine, it does no longer use that butterfly mechanism. The new MBP would be much thinner than the current MBP, but i read nowhere that it would be thinner than the MBA. So I would not worry about the keyboard.

Yes, please. I'm still on my 2013 rMBP specifically this reason. I take voting with my wallet very seriously, and -- to me -- the notch is one of the worst computer hardware design abominations ever conceived. And what's worse is that it was foisted upon an otherwise incredible product.

Go to system preferences and configure the screen to paint the top area black and you have a 16:10 screen without the notch.

It is right in the screen’s configuration option.

And, there, you have a current MBP/MBA with a rectangular screen area without the notch.

I'm pro-ports (HDMI, SD Card, and would love a single USBA) not because of speed, but because of practicality. It's a lot less cumbersome/inconvenient to have an HDMI port on my laptop than having to carry a dongle with me. Totally understand TB5 likely has more bandwidth than HDMI 2.1.

Also, what if I need HDMI and other things, but only have 4TB ports? I've now occupied an entire port just for an HDMI adapter. If I need to charge (and there was no magsafe) now I'm down two ports. My work laptop already suffers a similar problem where I have 2TB ports and 2 USBA ports. Anytime I leave my desk I have to ensure I have a USB hub with me for the mouse, headset, Security Key, etc..

Breaking News: using a port for some use makes one fewer ports available for other stuff. Now with USB-C as well!

I rather have my laptop lighter and thinner for 90% of my time and have to plug in a hub for 10% of the time than have a thicker and heavier laptop 100% of the time.

So, you see, your argument is not universal.

That is a very narrow viewed argument.

One of the main advantages of having a USBA port is that you can EASILY expand or add storage with a low-profile USBA drive. Currently, such drives do not exist in a USBC format; instead you have to use a cable, external drive, attach it to the back of the screen, etc. (ya know, for a laptop that has no user replaceable or upgradeable storage....)

If and when these become available in USBC, then it will be a different discussion. The exact same argument applies for keyboards, mice, etc..

I'm not saying USBC is not the future, I agree it is, but we are still VERY MUCH in a period of transition where the technology for periphrials has not caught up, until then, it's VERY USEFUL to have both.

P.S. - we are talking about a PORTABLE device, totally different story for a desktop.
