AMOLED speculation aside, who on earth thought that there'll be an iPhone screen which covers the ENTIRE front glass surface area, bar the front camera, prox/ALS and earpiece? Go back to design school... or maybe just enroll there, period, and possibly take up engineering and some form of human interaction study, you NEED it. Failing that, you'd be a good candidate for helping with Samsung's El Bizarro designs.

Wow, what a messy, unrealistic concept.

while a see your point, it seems you are against dreaming up stuff, even if at the time cannot be constructed

I exclude from my point of course designs that go beyond the laws of physics

The new Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are Samsung’s new flagship Smartphones with OLED displays. The Galaxy S series and Galaxy Note series are how they show off their latest OLED displays and display technology. They have been alternately releasing one of these models every six months, so there are two OLED generations per year. Each new generation has provided significant enhancements and improvements, so they leapfrog each other in display performance, resulting in a new Best Performing Display with each new generation. As a result, OLEDs have developed into excellent high performance displays.

Well, a June 2017 release of a new iPhone design with a great new display would be perfect timing for Apple after Tim & Co walk down iPhone memory lane at the beginning of the presentation. Imagine the crowd watching clips of the various iPhone introductions including those by Steve, including the landmark first one in 2007. Then Tim says now it's time to introduce a new redesigned iPhone which Steve would be proud of...

That's kinda what I was thinking. It's obvious that this year is not gonna be great. I know, at least, the first 3 iPhones were within a June timeframe and I know that the iPad 3 had a short life due to being underpowered, which, ultimately, changed the release schedule. So, it wouldn't be crazy for them to accelerate next year's model. iPhone 7 is going to be the iPad retina (3). Except the retina iPad had more going for it.

Way too many rumors about next year for this year to be any good. They will sell plenty of phones but I see their numbers continuing to decline. They will get the usual contract people and those that have next plans, etc. Those of us that usually buy every year... It's gonna be a tough sell. Largest tech company on the planet cannot redesign a phone in 3 iterations (3-4 years?)... I'm really glad I no longer hold their stock.

It makes sense why Apple would want to release a radically new and different iPhone for their 10 year anniversary of the iPhone. However, it's a bummer if we get 3 years of the same design. I'm not saying the current design is bad, but after 2 years it would be nice to see some change. I hope they don't get in to an every 3 years complete refresh for the iPhone.

Nothing wrong with dreaming, but ENGINEERS (of which I am one) see realism and usability as paramount - there is NOTHING usable about that "concept" - it's mere fantasy, and can safely stay there, being about as practical as a rubber ladder, wax fireguard, moon powered solar panels, etc. Why design a concept if it's merely unusable, unrealistic fantasy? It makes a mockery of oneself, and simultaneously demonstrates a TOTAL lack of any engineering knowledge or a grasp of how things should be designed for the real world - the exact opposite of what REAL PEOPLE need, is what this nonsense is.

Engineers make REAL, PHYSICAL things. Anyone can throw up a render - that IS NOT engineering, that's graphic design, at best.

Ok, so comparing that to the latest Apple LCD tech, the OLED has lower brightness, lower contrast when you have enough light in the room to see color, worse color accuracy and is less power efficient.

Hey, smartass, it's just a sci-fi like concept, a shocking image surely made by someone who knew it was unrealistic and not an idiot. It's just so far from how iPhones are it catches your attention. Then you could criticize him for this choice or Macrumors for spreading it (still to catch attention) but it's a different thing.

I'd call it a pointless squandering of one's time, actually.

Thank you for noticing I am smart, but I don't know how you think I am a donkey... this isn't Shrek.

Let's hope some day I come across a usable rubber ladder and send you a snap

With all these leaks, I wonder if "10th anniversary iPhone" means exactly that and the 2017 iPhone will be announced in January.

You do not need to come up with your own assessment. DisplayMate is a recognized authority on display quality. They stated unequivocally (for two years in a row) that Samsung AMOLED screens are the best for phones.

Also, you are repeating old anti-OLED falsehoods. In the very same review that I quoted, it says:

The Galaxy S7 matches or breaks new records in Smartphone display performance for:

  • Highest Absolute Color Accuracy (1.5 JNCD),
  • Highest Peak Brightness (855 nits),
  • Highest Contrast Rating in Ambient Light (186),
  • Highest Screen Resolution (2560x1440),
  • Highest (infinite) Contrast Ratio,
  • and Smallest Brightness Variation with Viewing Angle (28 percent).

Why do I sense 2016 is not going to be a good year for the iPhone with rumors like this floating around? The iPhone 7 is feeling more like the 7s revision, while 2017 revision is the major revision we always wait on after an 'S' release. This likely means, the iPhone 2017 will be a bit radical, which means, I would not buy it until all the kinks are worked out in the 2018 model.

I am not drinking Coke because of its 130th anniversary though. I drink Coke because I like Coke.

It would be cool if the 2017 iPhone was released to the public in June like they used to do. However I hate that this years iPhone will likely be a dud because I'm due for an upgrade in November lol.
