iPod touch OMG An Epic Fail By Apple

I feel very much the same way. Sure, the camera would've been cool for some apps, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me more of an added bonus if they did. I am quite happy with what we got. Sure, it was relatively minor, but the extra space at lower price with the 3GS processor, graphics, and RAM is quite nice and look forward to using mine when it comes in the mail Friday. Go Apple!

I'm really really torn on this decision... lucky for me, the money isn't in hand so i have some time.
I certainly don't NEED the camera. It would have been VERY nice though, and the 64 would last me a long time. But i'm pretty sure with the kids having nano's i can get by with the 32gb since i won't have to have their stuff on mine any longer....
ANyway, i need space. But the 16gb refurb is a great deal right now!

You epically wasted your own time for waiting for something that you thought would happen. This happens to everyone whether it be the iPhone or new Mac releases. Quit blaming Apple. Buy a touch and duct tape a disposable.
First of all, I don't consider this an epic fail. Don't ever believe rumors. Its not like Apple promised features then pulled them.
Second: I said a long time ago in the "what do you want in the next iPod Touch" thread that there would be no camera. Is there a camera? No. But when I made my comment people jumped all over me. Makes me laugh.

Yep, because you deciding to wait on completely unfounded information clearly designated as "rumor" is Steven P. Jobs' master plan - he also has a bridge in New York he would like you to buy, and if you send him your banking information he'd really appreciate your help getting $5 million out of Nigeria.

Seriously, if you are buying an iPod Touch just for taking photos there's an awesome product that does this already it's a called a camera.
Although a camera would be a nice addition and yes I was hoping for one to be added in this refresh it's hardly a deal breaker. But it does have more space and from the looks of it a far superior chipset that is capable of far more.
If I bought an iPod Touchs then in a few weeks one with a camera was release then for certain I would feel very cheated and scammed.

I remember comments like this about the 1st Macbook releases, the Apple Tablet FUD.... And I am really tempted to think of Hanlon's Razor with the majority of the comments.
Apple is a business, if people don't buy it they wont make money thus will have to listen to what people want/need. If you want it buy it, if it doesn't do what you want then get another similar product from the competition.

That's just silly. Why do people believe this? It's not like they don't already have a camera in a very similar iPhone device. The touch is in fact, somewhat simpler with less hardware inside it since it doesn't need all the phone stuff.
Quite simply, Apple chose not to offer this. Perhaps they felt adding too many features cannibalizes sales of the iPhone. I am sure they have a roadmap for adding or changing things on the touch that extends years into the future. However, they may have miscalculated people's willingness to try a Zune in light of not much new with the Touch. It could end up being an error on their part that affects sales. Time will tell.
Tell me the ipod and iphone are "very similar" internally. Go ahead. It shows you have no understanding of engineering at all.
It was a rumor nothing was confirmed so you can't blame apple you could have bought and enjoyed at anytime.

This is the exact problem with the update. There would be absolutely zero R&D dollars going into the Touch having a camera. (Its already there in the form of an iPhone)
Instead they went out and redesigned the Nano to have a camera to boost the interest in that device. This had to have cost a pretty penny.
So, to me, they DO want you to own an iPhone on a restrictive, subpar and expensive network.
So much for Apple products being affordable. The iPhone and AT&T are disproving this daily.
Everyone calm the hell down haha. Ever see a mac/pc commercial? Even Mac spreads rumours that are not true. I think some people are just here to blow off steam and others are here because for once this decade they were right.

I'm wondering if they are holding off on the camera until February or so like they did with the 32GB 1G touch. The touch debuted in Sept '07 in 8GB and 16GB models, and the 32GB didn't arrive until February '08.
It's a matter of getting component prices down just enough to meet the price points they are going for as Steve basically said about getting the price down.
Well I can't wait any longer, I am going to buy one and fall victim to a scam by Apple.

Okay. I'll tell you again. They are. They have the same screen, the same form factor, most of the same hardware (except the touch has LESS), so how does putting a camera on it somehow require massive re-engineering that is beyond Apple's capability to pull off in the entire year they have had since last fall?
The answer quite simply is that it isn't.
I believe they should never have introduced features to an ipod without including it in the iPod touch which is their flagship model. I mean everybody would love to have a fm radio, mic and a camera. I believe apple has shot itself in the foot beautifully by giving people reasons to buy the nano instead of the more expensive touch
