iPod touch OMG An Epic Fail By Apple

man, i am somewhat disappointed with the ipod touch update. i was gonna buy one, had there been a 16gb 3rd gen version... but im just gonna wait for the iphone after my contract is done with verizon....


The Ipod Nano is clearly the amazing product they released... fm radio with live pause, sooo many macrumorites thought it would nevvver happen.

Instead of feeling disappointed, I'm rather elated that the touch never received the upgrades I was hoping for (mic, cam). In its infinite wisdom, Apple has deemed that my wishes weren't necessities. Because of this, Apple has saved me a cool $1600, as I was quite prepared to buy 4 x 64GB touch's for gifts this holiday season.

Apple is telling my family that we really don't need pocket netbooks and that we should continue using the full-sized ones we currently own for our travels.

Thank you Apple. How often does a huge corporation place the needs of the customer above profit?

why not just buy a refurb/second hand iphone 2.0 16gb - cheaper than the touch, harder wearing - stick on flight mode and you have a 'touch' camera, mic etc.

im getting my 3gs in december and flashing and keeping my 2g as a touch!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the iPod Touch does not need a camera... Not to say that it eventually won't in the future.

I do hope when the OP gets an iPod Touch, that Apple release a new model with a camera in "One more thing" moment an hour after purchase, just so I can see another 'OMG Apple Epic Sucks Failure' thread.

As a side note, this is a rumour site, so everything you read you should tak with a pinch of salt. Apple didn't "fail" anything in this instance by you, or themselves, with their new refreshes.

The many people that say they are going to now look into the Zune after this announcement says that it does. If not that, then something else to keep people's interest. And to keep them upgrading. What was brought to market this time around neither makes the people holding out for new features on a touch want to buy one, nor does it make the people whom already own one want to upgrade. The compelling reason was missing this time around. Or is turning people away some sort of new business strategy that I am unaware of?

They really should have introduced something to wow people a bit more. Doubling the memory to 64 is nice. But who didn't see that coming? Maybe I am expecting too much, but do you all remember when Apple used to really wow us with their new announcements? That hasn't happened in awhile now. It's time for it again I think.

I will say they had one surprise for me. I really thought the classic would be discontinued this go round. Other then massive storage, I am not sure why someone would want one at this point considering all the many advantages a touch has over it.

I don't "need" 64gb.... but it future proofs the device for me. My 30gb Video holds what i want it too right now - but that doesn't include apps and such.

So the 32 would "do" right now, but i don't see being able to upgrade for a long time (i'm hoping it lasts). But then, i'm not keen on spending my last $400 on something that didn't get a bigger boost feature wise.

Anyway.... you/we can't possibly know why a person needs what they buy right?

Thinking like this is frustrating at best. Look up the definition of cheated and scammed:

Cheated: act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage
Scammed: a dishonest scheme; a fraud

Doesn't really fit at all what Apple would be doing. Apple would be releasing a product, thats all. Thinking you are cheated or scammed because a new product comes out is pathetic.

Why on earth do you hold yourself in such high opinion that a major manufacturer would be out to scam you? You've never owned an iPod yet Apple's market research arm was able to identify you as the one guy in the world that they should disappoint. Go !!

I held out for this show and was 100% assuming the new iPod touch would feature a camera. Sadly with the disappointing news I am not buying one. Looks like I'll have to wait until next year.....perhaps 2010/09 will see one released (if Apple comes to their senses).

Sorry if you didn't understand me, but I was just putting an generalised example up. I can understand if you were frustrated after buying a touch then they added a camera a few weeks later.

But I also said in another post (not sure if it was this thread) if you're basing the whole decision about getting an iPod touch around if it has a camera or not then the product isn't for you.

I've also had a look a the new iPod touches and have put an order in for the 64GB model (they didn't having any left last night at the Apple Store ) and if it is released with a camera I honestly couldn't care less because I already have a good quality camera...

Your kidding me right? I bought one too, about three weeks ago, but I'm not complaining. See, I saw it coming. I go to this web site called MacRumors.com and all these bits of info came into their knowledge, and then they post it for others to see, that there was probably going to be a refresh in early Sept. Many already knew this too cause Apple has done this for the last couple of years, and, to boot, the back to school promo of a free rebate on an iPod ended 9/8, one day before they announced the new ones, which was not a secret event.

Apple has historically had a policy of price changes up to 14 days are rebated the difference, but a new model with a price change is often not. You are over the 14 days BTW.

I don't think you will get any reprieve from your point of view, nor should you. Sorry.
