I would be a dishonest cheat? lmao you're the one that needs the class kid. I didn't go out and steal anything. If some delivers 700 dollars to me don't look for me to be running out the door after them.

That's where you're wrong.

It'd be more like, they are trying to give you $700, but they accidentally give you $1400.

If somebody gives me $700, I'd keep it.

If they were trying to give me $700, but they gave me $1400, I'd return the $700.

It's very different if somebody was trying to give you $700, and they succeed but they gave it to you just because.

Let your conscience be your guide but before you do that, take a look at THIS

Apple has been screwing people for years with their prices and want you to pony up $9.95 just to get the new 3.0 software for your iPod. I know what i would do.

Haha I love it!

They're not going to figure it out if has already arrived at his doorstep. Plus it's not like he's keeping an iPhone and didn't pay for it, he already bought one.

Do you have any idea how tracking/inventory systems work? It's very unlikely that UPS is going to eat the cost of a 600 dollar phone. They're going to figure out that the phone was mistakenly delivered by referencing the tracking number/inventory number (which leads them right back to his doorstep). The system probably already flagged it.

I don't think that is Apple decision on the iPod, I think that is some law or some crap like that. I read it once somewhere.

I'm all for "doing the right thing" but I would wait to see if you get charged.
Do what someone else said, call and say you know some one who got two and only paid for one.
Then, if you don't get charged in two weeks or you will not get any compensation form Apple, SELL IT.
$500 in your pocket is good in this economy.

Really? Please explain!

Because he posted on the internet admitting that he is aware of the error. If he doesn't now return the device that was erroneously sent to him he is culpable and subject to fees or fines or whatever else AT&T deems appropriate.

This is no different than knowing you received too much tax back, and then announcing it to the world. When you're found out, you're screwed because you can't say that you didn't know or that it was an honest mistake.

Just the fact that the OP posted this, means that he is looking for moral support either way and wants to return it. No way he keeps it after this thread!

Somehow Apple is going to track this thread, match him to his post, figure this out and charge him/take him to court - they don't have time to waste methinks

What law? The "we must get more money from customers who already paid $400 for an iPod but we cant give them this update for free like we have been with all the others" law?

I dont see the difference but id LOVE to see some BS law on it.

Or UPS will check the tracking number? You guys have obviously never worked in a warehouse...

Yeah, i wonder how many posters in the "hack" forum have gotton letters from Apple for stealing stuff.....LOL

Refer to previous post. It's on UPS to replace the phone that they erroneously shipped. UPS has the tracking number, which is related to his information (name, address, credit card most likely, etc). UPS doesn't need the thread to find the phone or the OP - the thread only demonstrates that he was dishonest, if he does run into more trouble down the line. Anyway, I don't really care what the OP does, but if he doesn't return it I'm going to laugh when he gets the $700 bill for the other phone after having sold it for $200.

oi! americans! (i guess its mostly you as its a bit late for most brits:))

a quick look at the bbc site or similar will give you an idea of what's going on here - our 'Members of Parliament' - are being, almost literally, strung-up for dodgy/ fraudulent expense claims. a load have resigned, some are going to be formally investigated by the police and Crown Prosecution Service (a bit like the DA, AFAIK.

<big respect for berlusconi in italia who can get away with shagging teenage girls(allegedly) whilst we uproar over a 50 cent paperlip:rolleyes:>

anyhoo. do the right thing. people and companies are getting tighter t:rolleyes:hese days.......

give it back and feel good about yourself.

Maybe it's a gift from Apple. ;) Oh yeah, it's a gift! Keep it, make sure you don't get charged for it - maybe wait another week. Then do with it as you would with a gift. :D Whatever you like.

Maybe not "LAW" but it was along the lines of that, I'm trying to find it. If that was the case we should get Snow Leopard for free also then.
Maybe it was something that the iPhone continues to make money from the day the customer buys it and the Touch doesn't. It's like upgrading any OS for a "computer" that you buy. You buy a PC and it has XP, do you get Vista for free?

I doubt they even find the mistake. And if they do, you are wrong again...they are selling for $700 and if they ask him for the $500 it will cost you at AT&T...he made $200. I dont see where he loses in this.

Then maybe they shouldnt be letting you update ANY firmware for free like they have been.

I have a first gen iPod which cost me $400. Then a little while later it came with 5 more apps like weather, maps , stocks, etc......the same first gen iPods came with those for free but if I wanted those 5 apps, i had to pay ..i think it was 10 or 15 bucks for it.

That kind of crap is BS

Do Blackberries get free OS updates?

Damn, wish i got one delivered to me for free. Your under no legal obligation to return it, and it is legally classified as a "Free gift" from Apple.
