Do they really customize your laptop? I ordered my glossy macbook pro and it was considered glossy but by serial is w8824 which apparently means it was made in the 24th week of the year. that means my macbook pro was made sometime in may?! I thought they custom built it when i order it. does this only apply to glossy models? they better not have just took my macbook pro off a shelf in the warehouse. that would mean i got a supposedly custom ordered macbook pro meaning i can't return it if i want to.

this is rather frustrating, & it does indeed look like apple are telling mac specialists (the ones who are awaiting stock) stories. i really feel for these vendors as they are losing business. of course the consumer can shop around, in this case if you can find someone who has them in stock, it's a safer bet. apple should know most of these deliveries can only go to home addresses, so when your time off expires (time off sitting at home, waiting), you are left somewhat up the creek without a paddle.

if the latest chip is important to you, wait... but you might not get an answer as to if & when it may appear. otherwise, someone may still hold stocks for the specs you want.

but please, spare a thought for the vendors awaiting this new stock, they are loosing some sales.

you do know that when you order something they don't HAVE to deliver it before an exact date just because you're going away, right? yes, it's disappointing, but they're not obliged to suddenly make the computer appear out of thin air.

Yes I know that..but I was delayed twice..so I wasn't too happy :(. I got a shipment information late last night. So I guess it's on its way.

I'm going to assume the hard drive is probably on backorder.

Either that, or Apple is clearing stock.
However the timing doesn't feel right for a new MBP, Montevina is still a month or two away and nVidia's new 9-series M chips where just annouced. I doubt Apple had enough time to cram all of that into a new MBP.

I have a hard time believing that they're clearing stock, since the only custom item in the machine was the 7200 rpm harddrive. If they were clearing stock, that wouldn't be enough to cause a delay; we'd be hearing complaints of delays from everyone ordering any custom machine.

this happened to me last summer right before the speedbump. They basically were taking orders on MBPs and then they were sitting out in space with constantly updating delivery times. I had to wait up until one month before the apple reps finally told me they were sorry that they had released new MBPS and i had ordered at the perfect/ worst timing. They gave me the faster computer and it was there within 3 days.

I think this is what has happened to you... the reps on the phone have no idea. until the apple store puts it up.

( heres to tomorrow!) haha. ( kidding) ( sorta):D

no no no no, i'm talking about apple letting down a vendor by not supplying to them in the vaguely estimated time they said they would, & the customer having time off for it- **in this extended waiting time** (a week, a month, whatever), & still being told to wait after that, so the customer ends up having to cancel. the vendor looses out on another sale.

I don't see the big deal with the shipping delay. If it doesn't arrive until after you leave, just have a friend or family member ship it to you. USPS does do global 2-3 day shipping. I'm assuming you'll be in a major city in China, not in a straw hut in the middle of nowhere, cause then you're screwed.

While I sympathize with the OP's frustration at the delays he experienced, there were no issues here. I ordered a 15" MBP last Friday from Apple Germany BTO (4gb RAM, 7200rpm HD, US keyboard) and just got word that it shipped today (one day earlier than promised!!). That's 2 business days from order to shipment for a BTO machine...not bad. :D

ive ordered somthing and it also ships from china but its stuck

lol what the hell?? is it going to get out of there??

Just an update: I ordered the same configuration as the original poster last Friday and it will be arriving this Friday (already in transit). Maybe we'll see an update soon but I don't think any delays are being caused due to a shortage of hard drive supplies or any other material as of yet.

you deserve any delay you get from this point on really.

That second delay, you shouldve canceled the order right there on the spot.

Why put up with the hassle? not me. By not canceling the order like you shouldve, youve really put yourself where you are now.

sucks i know, but it is what it is. Either you wait, and actually WAIT (without complaining), or you cancel it. There is no pity here ;)

I ordered the exact same config over the weekend:

15" MacBook Pro
2x1GB RAM
200GB 7200 RPM drive
Anti-Glare screen
US keyboard/OS
AppleCare protection plan
No other accessories or software

I didn't pick the expedited shipping as I'm not in a hurry.
After placing the order, this is what it said:

Ships by: Jun 24 - Jun 26
Delivers by: Jun 26 - Jul 2

I'll keep everyone posted about any delays.

-Marc

FYI, my MBP has been shipped today, and is slated for deliver next Monday, according to the FedEx tracking results.

So the Ships by was right on target: Jun 24
And the Delivers by will be smack in the middle: Jun 30

Note that it's going out of Memphis, TN and being delivered to the West coast.
Since it's being shipped Ground, makes sense that it would take 4 days.
Otherwise I would have gotten it on Friday at the latest, had I picked 2-3 days shipping.

Even better, my accessories (AppleCare, extra battery, iPod Touch) will be delivered by tomorrow.
Anyway, just thought I'd give an update as there doesn't seem to be delays - even for BTO orders.

Yea the problem was that I already got my free ipod touch and printer and already opened them. If I canceled the order, then I wouldn't have received my 400 dollar rebate. They said as long as it's like within a month of my attempt purchase, I would still be eligible for the rebate. However I'm going on vacation for over a month and no one would be able to hold the package for me. But now that it's shipped, I'm just hoping it'll come before the 26th.

i wish you luck :)

lets start taking bets... I bet day after he leaves :) You should call apple in that case, and tell them to redeliver it at a friends (a close friend that wont touch it), or family. You could try to call UPS, but they wont let you change anything, apple has to UPS it.

Do some people get FedEx shipping and some get UPS? or something? i thought apple only uses FedEx shipping.

Marc, did you actually get anything in the way of applecare? Mine was supposedly shipped with my accessories (according to the emailed invoice) but I didn't get anything in the way of cd's or codes in the package...
