Its quite funny that people upgrade when they have a fault. "Oh hi apple this brand new computer I spent 900 quid on is faulty, tell you what I'll give you another 200 quid and we'll see if that sorts things ok?"

For the record my Macbook is working perfectly now *touch wood* and I am loving it. Not hating on Apple I doubt I'll ever buy a pc again, but I'll make sure I check it before I buy another....5 times ;)

Yeah I am impressed that they went to all the trouble and I am happy with the current Macbook. Just cant believe how many faulty "new" computers I saw in such a short space of time.

Just something to compensate me for the day wasted sorting out this mess rather than enjoying one of the few days off I get.

Agreed, but for a company that supposedly prides itself on amazing design there shouldn't be indescrepencies. My criteria was simply a new laptop that has all the pixels working, no scratches and a battery cover that doesnt rattle about, you know like £950 worth.

Well considering the money they saved on QC I guess we're about even.

The thing is I've never had this problem with any other laptop its crazy.

Dont get me wrong I'm loving this Macbook and I've wanted to switch over to Macs for ages hence my persisitence rather than just getting a refund.

Just wanted to publicise this so hopefully people are aware and maybe something is done about it in future.

LOL! Great response post! I have been through four macbooks and 3 macbook pros. They have had everything from four dead pixels to a missing key on the keyboard to flickering screens and shoddy trackpads and defective power cords.

Here's to you for sticking it out, and here's to Apple for giving you replacements until you got a decent unit!

This time Battery Cover was fine, no dead pixels, but then I noticed two noticable scratches near the keyboard. Almost like someone had taken a bit of sand paper and rubbed it on various spots. Soo... they took that back and I now have my 5th.

Scratches on your keyboard? MY GOD! The computer must be unusable!

I said "Scratches near the Keyboard"

i.e on the Aluminium casing perfectly crafted in a state of the art process to create a flawless unibody encasing, pushing apple to the pinnacle of laptop perfection, quality and design.

Sarcasm just doesn't come out right when typing ;)

It was a few thumbprint sized imperfections, really noticable and not acceptable.

I also got a dead pixel (only 1) with my new Macbook.:( But by the time I notice I had already set it up. So I will live with it. I am not to picky. :D

This is the boat I'm in. Its okay, its just stuck on a slightly darker grey than the bottom bar in FireFox, and since my desktop is grey based I can't see it if I move FF's bottom border up like, 2 pixels

I've got all the usual features, the slant key feature, the loose cover feature but if there is one thing I can't stand it's a dead pixel.

If I got one with a dead pixel I would lie to get it exchanged. Intermittently turning itself off or something.

Lies make baby Jesus cry...

Honestly, yes, you've had issues, and I'd have returned mine for all the same things because I'm just as picky (except maybe the scratches) but:

1. Your experience was unusual.

2. Dead pixels are considered normal. By EVERY display manufacturer. That said, I've NEVER had an LCD in my life with a dead pixel out of the box and I would be quite ticked if I got one... and sadly, you're at the mercy of the salesperson since it *is* "within spec". You got lucky, and to me, rather than compensation, I'd be thankful they replaced a machine that was within spec...

You would have been better off demanding something while you were there. Apple, for the most part, have great customer service, in my experience, and if you are nice but stern you will more than likely get what you want. That is, of course, if you are entitled to it. Many people try to take advantage of companies like Apple and they are wary to give people the world who don't deserve it. You can try sending a letter or an e-mail to Steve Jobs but at this point, I'll be surprised if you receive any compensation.

No product of any kind should be scratched out of the box, no matter where or how insignificant. Especially a device such as an Apple computer which is held in such high esteem for its design.

Why should someone pay full price for a brand new piece of equipment only to find imperfections on it? The buyer's opinion of the product is the most important, if you don't think it's a big deal, then you can live with it when it happens to you. Don't flame the OP for being unsatisfied with damaged product out of the box.

I will get a refund after three broken alu macbooks. The first MB had the Superdrive halfbroken, the dvds sometimes didn't enter stopping halfway. The second macbook had a horrible sound from de HDD with notably supbar performance vs the same HDD Model (a Fujitsu). And the third had the same problem the number one, the dvds often were blocked halfway entering the drive. Here, in the Store from Spain don't accept +2 replacements, so they offer me a refound. I have accept it.

PD: the Apple quality control is a crap, they have lost a client. It's incredible this happen with a (only in the price) premium laptop.

LMAO, "halfbroken"? It's either broken or it's not. That's like being half pregnant. :D

Sorry for the pun, couldn't help it. Oh well, sorry things didn't work out too well. There are plenty of other manufacturers to choose from in terms of computers.

Haha, i wrote "halfbroken" cause sometimes the dvds enter properly and sometimes not, but not always. I know there are a lot of computer manufacturers, but none with the MacOs X licensed, that was the reason I bought the MB.

If I have the certainty that the fourth MB will come with all working well I for sure will buy it again. It's a pretty machine.
