no wonder they are out of stock everywhere.. people like you go through 10 in one day.. I'd be embarrassed to complain over small stuff like this.

If mine had a bullet hole out of the box, I'd embrace it..

We are talking about OCD issues here, such as minute scratches that you can barely see when under the right angle of sun or a speck of dust in the paint or anything that is NOT OBVIOUS

We aren't talking about dents just like we aren't talking about shattered screens when one gets an iphone

We are talking about little things that will always be present if you look hard enough
Perhaps. I see your point. I guess the OP MAY be overreacting somewhat, but still, if it's 200 bucks you're laying out for a new phone (235 w/ upgrade fee, and for the 16GB, obviously more if you're going up in size) you'd want it to be without these flaws. I put my phones in cases the day I buy them so that when it comes time to sell them, I can get top dollar.

I call ******** on this...Lol

Stop being so OCD its just a phone..

not sure, but both phones are far less "pretty" than the iphone, so OCD issues are much less likely

Holy OCD batman... Go have a beer and relax! You're going to die at a young age if you keep going so nuts over a phone.

OT: The desire or requirement to have a phone without defects is not OCD. Returning phones until a suitable replacement is received is not OCD. Pointing out the incorrect use of OCD is not OCD. :)

Let me repeat (as the OP):

I started this post simply for one reason: to let people know that you can exchange your defective phone until you get a perfect one.

If you choose to settle for a defective one, good for you. I choose to get what I pay for.

The replacement phones come out of thin sealed boxes from the back that have nothing in them but iPhones. These are not for sale. Replacements only.

So, to sum up: REPLACEMENT PHONES HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH PRE ORDERS OR IN STOCK PHONES FOR SALE.

Pointing out that O.C.D. is an acronym and should have periods separating the letters is not O.C.D.

Wow you're wrong. If there were scratches and dents on a brand new car that dealership would be out of business. Think before you post. No one would walk out of a dealership with a new car with dents and scratches.
I agree that it would be difficult to go back to any business and say that the damage was there when I bought it, TRUST ME:cool:
Open the box at the store then ask if I should keep it if damaged and documented. Get one later after the rush. On the other hand if all of the phones were damaged then he saved other people the heartbreak.

I feel bad for the Apple employees who have to deal with these kinds of customers.

IT IS JUST A PHONE !

Bought my first at apple store in nj. 4 imperfections. Bought one for my son at the same time, his was flawless. Went to a different apple store in nj on Sunday and went through 3 boxes. All but the last had damage. When I got home, I realized that the one I took had silver bleeding through the black in two places on the ottom of the phone. Went back to original apple store tonight and went through 2 boxes before finding an almost perfect one. Took it. This is seriously nuts! Where is the QC?

Anyway, my message is, they have a ton of phones for exchange. If yours is damaged, go get a new one.

Plenty of replacement stock? LOL! They will be repacking and selling those phones just the way they are.

Agreed. Geeks must have a special place that they can decompress every few hours to keep from killing the OCD customers that walk in there everyday!

No, they'll all get a new case and will probably be more defect-free than the initial batch.

Only time will tell! After hearing what is happening a Foxcom, it sounds like some might have done less than quality work out of being unhappy!

Looks like China will be suffering the same union fate we have, sooner of later!:p

Im from Jersey, OP is from jersey...well now I know if I go in for a replacement the only replacement phones left are the ones with defects. Good thing mine came pristine. Except for my wobbly power button which is no big deal.

Why should the iPhone 5 be held to a different standard than, say the iPhone 4 or 4S?

If you bought a brand new phone, it should be brand new, free of blemishes and defects. Try showing up to an Apple store and tell them that you only want to pay them 95% of the price for a phone with a few scratches on it.

Let us know how that goes.

Exactly. Or return the phone within 14 days exactly as you got it, scratched and anodizing missing. See if they say 'it's not in new condition, you can not return it'.

I totally understand OP and thanks for the confirmation of that much appreciated fact as I'm one who has to wait until October too. But 6 phones dude, SIX! I can see if it was missing something, Dinged or dead pixels, or cracked, but not super simple crap that you will end up doing yourself after a week or two of ownership..

At that point you do one of two things, settle for the third one or simply avoid the manufacture. I call total O.C.D. Would you do that SIX times with a new car from the dealer too, I mean after all you'd pay waaaay more for it than a simple phone, or would you simply return and get your money back and choose another make or manufacture...After the third one trust me I sure the employee envisioned something along these lines...

It won't be the same group of people who will refurb the returned models and they won't be under the same time gun.

Most of the phones for exchange will most likely be the ones you rejected lol

Yes, if they came from the same batch, as they won't have any refurbished units yet.

I don't buy this story for a second. Apple just isn't going to break out 3-4 iPhones at a time to make some OCD nutjob happy. Fake.

your just a android fanboy trying to sully apple.

The phones are so expensive because of people like the OP.

To be honest, I'm surprised the employees let you open that many phones...that many more phones will now have to go through the entire refurbishing process, and that many more customers who aren't going to care about what most certainly were very likely microscopic blemishes from the manufacturing process and not true defects will have to wait that much longer to get their phones.
