I went to the Apple store today to exchange my case but just out of curiosity I did a side by side comparison with the 8 plus and my X since I’ve had my doubts about the X and contemplated over the weekend if I should trade it in for an 8 plus for much of the same reasons as has been talked on the forum, bigger usable space, wider, familiar TouchID etc etc

But wow when holding the phones side by side and having a safari webpage open, same brightness, True Tone on and off, etc, it’s really astonishing. I can’t believe how amazing the screen is on the X compared to the 8 plus. I don’t think I can ever go back to having a non-OLED phone.

I am afraid that is not so as I returned my X and went back to my 8+!

It was nice but not amazing!

I feel exactly the same way. Bravo! Been there done that and learned my lesson about being an early adopter. Patience is a virtue nowadays 😎
Still holding on pretty well with my iPhone 6s. Can I join the club of patiently people? I think I will buy the successor of the iPhone X.

I’ve been oled, lcd, oled, now back to lcd. Didn’t like having screen burn in and colour shifts amongst other niggly oled characteristics.

I think there's also mLED. It has nothing to do with OLED but it might be a good alternative that is pretty close to OLED without the OLED issue characteristics.

I'm on the X from a 7 Plus and I'm loving the new display. It just seems so bright, contrasting- and those blacks are great for watching video. I think it's safe to say Apple won't be going back.

Yeah but how often do you see the blacks? Most apps are designed with a white background anyway.

Tbh, I'm not seeing any major advantages to the OLED screen and it does have a major disadvantage - screen burn in. I'm not complaining but I think Apple's LCD technology was on point and iPhone's screens were the best. I'm not saying the X is inferior, but I do think the LCD is better. Time will tell if Apple included technology to mitigate the burn-in issue.
The OLED effect increases with the size of a screen. The TVs are amazing. On a phone it’s really not terribly important. The iPad will be amazing with an OLED. Much more impactful than iPhone.

I think it depends. For a non-tech user, I have heard many say they can't tell the difference between the LCD an OLED display on the iPhones. But for somebody like myself, I can easily differentiate between the two. I agree the OLED display is nice, but I could still easily resort to an iPhone 8 display without missing OLED if need be.

You can also tell the difference in bright sunlight and in pitch black. Two key areas where OLED is significantly better in.

Yeah but how often do you see the blacks? Most apps are designed with a white background anyway.

All of my most used apps are in dark mode and some have started adopting pure black modes. Looks awesome and doesn't burn your eyes at night. Also saves battery as well.

The X display for me is terrible. I have yet to be able to configure it to get a white color. Side by side with my 6s it is shocking out how of sync the colors are. I have been playing with the Hue and intensity can have yet to get good colors out of it, but yes the black is better.

I’ve used a lot of amoled androids before and while i liked the black scenes and apps, I always admired Apple’s color accuracy on the LCD’s.

But, the X with tone shift turned off is pretty good to my eyes!

I've used both LCD iphones and now the X... with various OLED android phones in between. Maybe I'm not a display snob, but I've never really been bothered either way. So long as the texts are crisp and readable I don't care. I was always happy with the 1080p screens on the iPhones.

Wow if you can't see the benefit of OLED then you can't be saved.

Perfect blacks with infinite contrast. Eg watching a movie or a video with black bars - compare that to an LCD display and it blows it away. The blacks are truly black and not grey.

OLED has a superior viewing angle. What people are seeing is specific colour shift eg blue or pinkish hue.

OLED have a significant viewing angle vs an LCD. Go to your local best buy and compare both and then walk side to side and tell me LCD is better.

Colours also look more vibrant on an OLED. Why well because there is no backlight so anything will just pop against a black background. .

And it's much more energy efficient than LCD as it is an emissive display that doesnt need a backlight.

Seriously people check out an OLED TV and compare to an LCD.

Once we get true RGB OLED then that will change Everything unless Samsung can make a true QLED display

I have both a iPhone 7+ and a Samsung s6 edge plus. The edge + is super amoled and is nice but the iPhone lcd is nice also. You can go back, it’s easy after 5 minutes eye adjustment. I have kinda gotten used to having both around me so admittedly my comparison is less obvious.

I also remember a lot of people on these forums slating and mocking android users who would prefer their oled screens over lcd. Now look at us. iPhone vs iPhone. Who would’ve thunk it?

Anyway, I can see the appeal. Like we now have the iOS running a Samsung oled panel. One thing you can not knock Samsung for is their beautiful displays.

Good thing you didn’t do a side by side with all the other OLED phones that were already available for few years now before the X came out. God forbid, you might have bought a different brand...

Are you suggesting that oled has suddenly become accepted round these parts ;-)

I have an oled tv in the living room and a regular samsung 4k in the bedroom and the difference is night and day. Oled way better

Im holding my 7 next to my X right now, and the text is actually much easier to read on my 7 than my X. The X text at least is fuzzier. Also the 7’s screen in brighter. The only benefits i see are in the blacks. Honestly everything else looks better and more clear on the 7.

Is there websites/ videos i can download that show a benefit of oled on the X that some are claiming to see that i can compare in real-time side by side?

OLED displays are great. The X has a very nice display, so does the Note and several others. In fact I think since the iPhone 6, all the displays in the iPhones have looked good. The funny part is you ask an Apple user about the oled on a Note or any other phone and they will say it looks ok. But you ask them about the oled on the X and it’s omg, it’s unbelievalby, the best display ever created in the history of the universe.

Just an observation.

I went to the Apple store yesterday and was very surprised at the yellow and muddy ness of the X screen compared to the 8. I was hoping Apple were going to skip oled and go directly to micro led.

The ips screens have had several generations to get perfected. The oled on the x seems not quite there.

Rumour is Apple are investing billions into LG for future oled iPhone screens so doesn’t look good for micro led any time soon. Hopefully they can engineer their way around the problem.

LCD has superior viewing angles and less burn in. OLED does everything else better.

I’m hoping mLED will solve OLEDs issues.
OLED protects me from nosey people looking at my phone.

Thats true tone. It makes colors what the really are in real life. Yelloish lighting equal yellowish whites.
