Got my iPhone 5S. Came with iOS 7.0.4. Debated on whether or not I should keep it on that. Decided on 8.3. 8.3. runs very well. So much more smooth than on the 6 plus. I do not understand why last year's iphone runs the latest version better than the current flagship???

It's because the 6+ is underspecced. The constant downscaling causes problems because the hardware is insufficient.
Apple messed up.

I believe the stutters that is occurring on the iPhone 6+ is due to having to downscale a 2208x1242 resolution to a 1080p resolution. That takes some processing power instead of displaying at a native resolution like other iPhones.

Pretty much this.

The OP is either blind or straight up being dishonest with his "opinions"

There is not a difference between iPhone 6 Plus and any previous phone on behavior outside of the moment when the screen rotates. (Just because screen rotation was smooth and effortless when it had 4x less resolution is not something to hold against the new tech)

Maybe the illusion of such a tiny screen makes it hard to see the framerate of motions, but they are the same on both phones. Maybe because its so tiny on 5S it gives the illusion its smoother.

People really should stop saying the phone has occasional hiccups. The one thing that is consistent is screen rotation lag which is because of the high resolution.

But that specific moment doesn't represent other things, like swiping, scrolling, opening apps. Those are all perfectly fluid if your phone is running properly. Thats why OP comes across almost as a liar to justify his 5S.

So its misleading to say the phrase "annimations are choppy and things lag" about the product.

Say specifically, the screen lags when rotating the screen from landscape to vertical.

Otherwise it implies that every menu and every event randomly stutters to you which is completely false.

The iPhone 6 Plus is a finished and wonderfully perfect product and the best in class. If you got a 5S it means you don't appreciate technology like the rest of us do. You're messing about on a tiny micro screen and theres nothing cool about that. You're missing out, we don't envy you or think you made a cool decision.

No need to make this thread, we get it, you're different. Every guy that thinks like you has to make a thread like this. Wow special.

Not really, its not messed up because Id rather have this resolution rotate with a slight hesitation than to have a tradeoff somewhere else like battery for example.

My Macbook Pro does THE SAME THING when switching re-loading resolutions. Is a Macbook Pro under specced? They hesitate too. All tech does when messing with high resolutions.

If its so underspecced then why is mine flawless? I can run Real Racing 3 on my projector through the air both processesses at the same time and its smooth.

----------

no issues with my 6+ but my nexus 6 is better

Im sure your nexus can't handle most of the games I play and most of the music apps I use without downscalling and having unusable lag.

For example the Vainglory beta on Android has like 50% of the graphics downscaled on all of them because they decided no Android can run it like it does on iPhone 6 Plus.

So its not even in the same league.

Id gladly take some hesitation when switching to landscape to be able to have the best graphics in the world on a mobile device.

Huh? The 6+ is downscaling all the time and not just when you rotate the screen. Occasionally there is lag and occasionally the screen freezes because *something* is just not up to the job.

That never happens to me. It's smoother and more consistent than ever after this update.

I'm trying to recreate it now and I can't. It's absolutely smooth.

I would have noticed...

Smoothness is a big deal to me. That's why I never tried Android.

----------

Come to think of it I can't even recreate the landscape changes stutter anymore.

I'm trying now and it's hyper responsive.

I remember before the updates this was a thing for sure.

Heck even spotlight is smooth!!!

It's true that 8.3 is light years smoother on the 6+ than any preceding iteration of iOS8. The lag/stutter can't be recreated at will, it just happens now and again. The more you use your phone the higher the likelihood that you'll come across it.

Nah, thats a myth, probably from the first couple versions upon release. And from people who loaded a sloppy old iCloud backup to their new device instead of a fresh default install.

I would have noticed if this is true. I use it heavily everyday and its always smooth.

In that sense that in a rare moment it might happen it is just that, very rare. And by that measure every device that runs software in history can be held to that pointless criticism.

This phone is perfect for a majority of users.

If its not for you, there is a problem with your software or even maybe hardware. Do a fresh install and if it doesn't work get a warranty exchange and start fresh with a new one and new OS with no backups loaded.

But the flagship experience as it should be for a majority of users is flawless with the new updates.

Plenty of people feel that the 6+ isn't as 'sorted' as the i6. No amount of clean installs will ever make it so. Sure it's ok for the majority, but for £700 I expect at least as smooth a ride as my old iPhone. Nobody can ever convince me that the 6+ is a flawless iPhone. The i6 is better and the 5/5S are smoother.

It is as smooth. I have both. Im looking at them now. No difference.

The 5S is tiny and unusable. Its so tiny you can barely see so maybe thats why it looks smoother. There is less space to slide so its looks faster because its smaller surface to travel while sliding?

The regular 6 is tiny as well. The screen is small.

I think the honest truth is you and those people just want the 6+ to have some flaw so you feel better. Sorry but it is perfect, flawless, and the flagship experience.

The vast vast majority don't have problems and they are smooth. And they were all saying it too back in the days but they got tired of saying it over and over. Now all thats left is people like you who either couldn't afford the 6+ or just couldn't understand the paradigm shift to a bigger better screen. You guys are the ones spreading these myths in absence of people who are fine with them not posting or caring about your complaints because they don't have those issues. And are tired of echoing it over and over.

hhhmmmm I wonder what is on your hidden agenda....

I am sensing someone a little too much in love with their iphone 6 plus. Fact is, its the worst iphone to date. Its the only flagship to ship at launch with sub par software that took several and I do mean several updates to make it even usable.

The animations are very choppy on the 6 plus, but that's due to the phone down scaling everything to 1080p. The iPhone 5S doesn't have that problem, thus the animations are much better. The iPhone 6 plus's GPU is also very weak, thus its pushing all these pixels.

The 5S still remains my iPhone of choice after 2 years. Here is hoping Apple releases a 6S in 4".

5S is tiny lol lol how can you see on that screen?

Fact is, your opinion is in the minority and makes no sense. lol.

You're the one missing out on this gorgeous ocular pleasure.

You're right I am in love with it. Best phone ever!! :) Animations are perfect! Been loving it since day one!

You enjoy it!!! Fact doesn't change that its a laggy mess. Maybe not for you. Idk, maybe you just don't see it, but every iPhone 6 plus I have played with lags, even on 8.3.

We'll see how great the 6 plus is when Apple completely abandons it come this fall, just like they did with the iphone 5. It'll be nowhere to be found. Mark my words.

I'm moaning about my 6+ because I couldn't afford it??
Or maybe I work for Samsung, despite having been using iPhones exclusively for the past 5 years...

Regardless, for a £700 device it ain't cutting it for me. My iPhone 5 was better in some key areas and that's a two generations older device. It seems to me that you wish to justify your purchase whereas I'm perfectly happy to question mine.

Would I be right in thinking that the 6+ isn't your first iPhone? If so then the 'tiny' screen size didn't bother you unduly before you got your 6+. I got along just fine using my tiny screen.

I have found that turning on reduce motion and reduce transparancy makes anoticable difference. No stutter, no lag.

I realize some purists will insist that you shouldn't have to do that, but why have the processor do all that extra work. Especially since I don't even care about those features.

For anyone with stutter or scroll lag, give it a try.

You enjoy it!!! Fact doesn't change that its a laggy mess.

Its not a laggy mess tho. Lol..

In fact its not laggy at ALL. Im looking at it, using it.

I honestly don't believe anything you say haha.

Not really, I made a huge deal about it ever since iPhone 4. The threads are still here. I always wanted a bigger screen since that time. Apple finally agreed 3 years later.

The people have spoken.

Bigger is better.

I've had all the iphones (with the exception of the of the 5) since the 3gs and I'll agree, the 6plus has the most lag as of yet. My 5s is WAY more responsive than my 6plus, and is definitely faster in all respects. Both jailbroken, both on 8.1. And they were both the same on 8.0 and not jailbroken as well. Both set up as new, no back up, and both have the EXACT tweaks, apps, media on them. So I would say from MY experience, though I love the 6plus for the size, the 5s is a better phone as a whole. Even boot time is way faster.

If it's jailbroken then that's why lol.

Last time you tested it non broken was on 8.0! We are up to 8.3 now...

Try a fresh install now on 8.3 and it's flawless!

Also there's no way a 5S can compete as it's too tiny like a toy. How can it be better overall you are being silly and ridiculous. (I guess that's what you're shooting for with those outlandish statements of opinion)

A smaller uglier older screen is in no way better lol. Most of actually like the extra eye candy and screen real estate.

Apples to Apples.

Both non jailbroken on ios 8.0 (an operating system meant and created for the iphone 6 and 6 plus) and the 5s (meant for the ios 7) was faster. Both on 8.1, (both before and after I jailbroke them) and the 5s comes out ahead every single time. So when both are on the same operating system at the same time, jailbroken or not, the 5s comes out faster. Shouldn't have to wait till ios 9 is almost out for an update to make the 6plus work as fast as the 5s.

The 5s is smaller, but not a toy. It was top of the line 1.5 years ago (and still was up until 9 months ago) and is still a far better phone than most out there. Screen size is a matter of choice, many prefer the smaller screen and the portability of the phone.

I don't believe stating that a phone that is faster, less lag and generally works more smoothly is being "silly and ridiculous." And none of my comments were outlandish (perhaps you don't understand the meaning of the word?).

With the way you comment, and the way you are drinking the iphone 6plus koolaid (which btw, I still believe is a fantastic phone), you must be a little boy (at least the way you approach adult discussions leaves that impression). Maybe you need a timeout like some of the other children on this site?

ok so you admit you haven't tested it since 8.1.

So your comments are nonsense.

I have both phones and they are exactly the same.

How do you explain the fact that my iPhone 6 plus has zero lag. Even when I first got it the only thing that lagged was screen rotation.

Now by 8.3 they fixed even that. What exactly is your criticism?

That after the biggest redesign in 8 years there was a bug for a few weeks?

Gimme a break...

It's Apple's 1st gen big screen phone hence the issues. Rule of thumb is skip 1st gen and wait for 2nd or even 3rd.

The 5s is not tiny, the HP Veer is what i would classify as a tiny phone, even the 4s is bearable :p

As for the lag and stutter, yes iOS 8 isn't much of a smooth OS, heres hoping that iOS 9 fixes most of the problems but don't get the hopes up

Issues are gone after update tho lol. Hardware is perfect. Software caught up.

No need for iOS 9, iOS 8.3 is great.

One month with the 6 Plus and I'm going back to the 5S...

I don't think there is a smaller modern smartphone than the 5s. Pretty soon they'll be collectors items and in the not too distant future people will wonder how they ever typed on the thing. I had one two weeks ago with the test drive and couldn't. The Plus has 3x as many pixels. Of course it's harder to push all that and combined with the tiny size of the 5s makes it feel snappier. Beyond that I don't see the point.

Actually, my comments are not nonsense. It is your reading comprehension skills that seem to be sub par. I stated that in MY opinion the 5s was a smoother phone than the 6 plus. Your experience may be different. That is why I DON'T explain why your 6 plus has zero lag. Your experience is not the experience of everyone. Many have experienced the same lag that I do, on all variations of ios 8, both jailbroken or not.

There are numerous threads on numerous technology forums that outline issues with all of the various ios 8 operating systems. So I would say that ios 8.3 did NOT fix all problems for all people.

I would make the argument that it is much more portable and easy to use day to day. My wife has small hands and loves the size of her 5s, doesn't want anything bigger. The 5s is a great size for wearing on an armband at the gym, biking, etc. Fits in the front pants pocket of my jeans great, and is much easier to text on one handed.

My 6 plus is much nicer to surf on when stationary (waiting while my wife and kids are shopping, sitting at the doctor, etc.). Much nicer to play games on, watch a movie on, surf the net, etc. But for day to day on the go use, like walking and talking on, or texting while walking around, I find the smaller size of the 5s nicer. It's why I have both-best of both worlds, great for different scenarios.

I would hazard to guess that the 6 would be a perfect fit, though I haven't spent much time holding/using one as of yet. And probably won't as I'm purchasing the Samsung Galaxy 6S right away, as soon as all my accessories arrive from Amazon.
