I remember a time when all of this didn't matter, all you had to worry abut was having a pay phone nearby and a quarter in your pocket.

Honestly, most consumers don't give a crap, all they want is a phone so they can call people or text them. All of the apps and whatchamanots are just a trivial bonus and if you worry about everyone having to know about how it all works then you're concerned with the wrong things in life.

Oh, and a 4G is a fourgy (four people orgy). If that comes with my phone, I'll have one, too. Facetime, anyone?

LOL :D That was a good one! Never heard the portmanteau "fourgy" before - so now I know why it's called "iPhone 4" and not "iPhone 4G"!

Thank you so much!!!

It is not surprising at all knowing an average american's level of knowledge about details.

and this is one reason why iOS will remain successful...

because at least 1/3 of the people are really not that technology literate as some might think. and they don't care about specs, they want an easy to use device.

One-Third of iPhone Users Mistakenly Think They Have 4G

....and 3/4 of them are macrumors members

Unfortunately all this “rumor” confirms is that most users are idiots and do not deserve to spout opinions on technology they clearly do not understand nor deserve.
Chances are if they don't know the difference between 3G and 4G then they wouldn't be spouting opinions on this site, either way. Most people only know that the iPhone is expensive so it probably has the better feature.

Verizon will do ANYTHING to keep you from buying an iphone. they dont get nearly as much towards their commission. they will automatically throw an android phone at you just because it benefits them.

This is 100% incorrect for Corporate Verizon employees. I want to repeat that: this is 100% incorrect. As to how authorized agents pay their employees? There are hundreds of chains, and I'm sure they pay their employees in many different ways.

Gotta love statistics based off surveys.

Q. do you like Peas?

According to a new survey 34% of the public wish to instigate war!

Of course the "3G" on "iPod 3G" doesn't mean "3G Data" because there isn't any model with 3G data, so there shouldn't be any reason to get confused, as the iPod has no cellular data by definition.

So if I call the 3rd gen iPod nano "iPod Nano 3G" you get confused because the "3G" could mean "3G data"? LOL.
again i will repeat it ONE MORE TIME. people who are NOT tech savvy won't understand. If they hear an iPhone 3G has 3G data they are only going to assume an iPod or iPod Touch 3G has 3G data as well. But you are the one claiming it's OK to call it a 3G instead of iPod 3rd generation bc you say so.

This concept is difficult for you to grasp isn't it?

and 100% of "4g" users on sprint don't realize that wimax isn't really 4G.

4G meaning 4th generation yes, but he's correct, what 4G means is the standard dictating 100 Mbit/s while in motion/changing towers, and 1 Gbit/s for sitting in an office/home/not moving around.

so, i raise you one facepalm.

*facepalm*

iphone 3g iphone 3gs iphone 4...people easily add a "G" to that.

But it clearly says 'iPhone 4' on the side of the bloody box. Anyone that just presumes there is a G involved anywhere is a complete idiot. Nothing is easily added anywhere. Its 'iPhone 4'. Nothing else. Plain. Simple. Doesn't the box also clearly state on the bottom that it runs on the 3G network?

And they say the human race is supposed to be the most intelligent life form? Only if they read the literature that comes with their expensive devices, it seems. Morons.

Seriously Mods????? That post was pretty funny and last time I checked it had a decent rating. Sometimes we take ourselves way too seriously. Did you remove all the other posts about high school girls not knowing the difference too?

Edit: And if the offensive part was "uterus" then I fully expect all these mentions of orgies will be deleted as well.

This survey has little to do with the "confusing" nomenclature of network speeds and more to do with the intelligence of the people who participated in the survey.

But, I already knew the vast majority of the populace have subpar intelligence, so this really isn't news.

My two cents. Part of the misconception is the fault of resellers. I have seen a number of sites on the web where the iPod Touch 4th Generation has been referred to as the iPod Touch 4G or just iTouch 4G. A mature woman whom I work with told me she had just purchased an iTouch 4G. I asked her if she meant an iPhone 4. No, an iTouch 4G. In amazement, and chuckling to myself, I told her that it did not have a cell network radio and that it was WiFi only. I tried to explain to her that it was a 4th generation iPod Touch and did not contain a 4G network. After seveal minutes of back and forth I gave up. Ahhhhhh:confused:. I'm glad I stopped drinking:)

If you believe that knowing what 4G means is equal to intelligence, you should ask your girlfriend when was the last time she was to the ornithologist. :)

Who cares if it says so on the box. Who reads the bottom of product boxes? Do you read all 67 pages of your iTunes agreement?

Who's the bigger moron, one who confuses nomenclature about technology they have no need to understand, or one that thinks the rest of the world is idiots for not having the same set of knowledge as he/she does.

Seriously, if not for Wikipedia, I'll bet that anyone with specific knowledge in a subject other than technology could bring you to your needs in seconds.
