Not a surprise. Heck, I'm in middle school, and have an iPhone 4. Before I get any flaming, yes I paid for it. I also help out and pay for the data, too.

Class of 2012 and I got the i4 my Junior year. I was so happy when I finally saved enough money to get it.

not all true

being in 9th grade myself and going to school in Manhattan I can say that not one third of students own iPhones(But I think it will be that many in about a year). About one third own blackberries. They barely even know the difference and they want to stick with blackberries because all their friends use BBM. Also Not even 34% own a tablet device. When they say they own one they mean their parents not themselvs.

I believe it. You see iPhones all over the place at my school. And in addition, a good number of kids who own tablets own iPads, and at least one or two kids in each class has some sort of a MacBook. Apple is pretty popular among us high schoolers!

My son that is 11 has an iPhone 3GS and he has it now for over 2 years.
When the time came to get him a cell phone he also wanted an iPod touch.
When I was looking into all different phones and plans it was just about the same as a semi decent dumb phone and not to mention also getting him a iPod touch for his birthday too.
At the time I bought the phone it was $99 and his service added to my plan was another $30 per month.
The difference was $10 per month vs a decent other phone and the iPhone and not having to buy the iPod.
I thought he was worth it.
Nowadays it has become just a way of life and I feel much better in being able to reach him and see where he is at all times then not being able too.
And I am also very surprised as to how well he has taken care of his phone and services.
When the new iPhone comes out i will buy him the 4s for a $100 and call it a day.

it is one of the hottest tech gadgets in the world. no surprise here that all the teenagers want it.

Uh, actually no. What you were so poor in high school that you couldn't afford a $200 phone? I got my first iPhone in 7th grade (iP4) and paid for it without any problem. Just because you're poor doesn't make everyone around you poor.

Lol....it's not the subsidized phone itself, it's the $1200+ contract that comes with it.

You obviously have no grasp on how much these things actually cost.

Yet dropout rates are still extremely high and kids, on the whole, are a lot dumber.

I have noticed that the "smarter" kids are the ones without the smartphones. No, seriously. All the people I know with GPA's over 4.0 don't have smartphones. I'm rather proud of my 4.8 too. Maybe it's a sign!! LOL.

Just my experience in my twisted little world. :D

That's why my kids have prepaid iPhone 4's (not 4S's). They all wanted iPod Touches, but since each attends a different school, they needed cell phones to coordinate getting to and from school and after-school activities, so I ended up buying them iPhones instead of the iPods. They all have voice-only plans on their phones, and only have WiFi data. On a family plan, they can call anyone else in the family whenever they need to with no restrictions on calls or texts, all for about $15/phone/month. And when they need access to data, there is the WiFi connection at home, at school, or at the library. The only drawback with this is that Find My Phone only works when they are connected to a WiFi network. But they probably prefer it that way anyway.

Where I come from the highest possible GPA is 4.0.

I've considered that, but I was unsure of how AT&T would respond to me circumnavigating their "data plan required" policy. Hmmm... :D

Where I come from the highest possible GPA is 4.0.

My high school has a bunch of AP courses that are on a 5.0 scale and provide a GPA boost (I'm currently taking 4 AP's out of my 5 academic courses). I guess it varies by school district.

I got the iPhone 1 when I was a Senior in high school. My parents wouldn't buy it for me either (trust me I tried to get them to). I had to get the money on my own doing freelance video projects. Totally worth it. They did pay for the service though.

I'm not sure if this is sarcastic, but...yes, my mom n' pop are very proud. :D

Not sarcastic, I was the same way. I got hell for it at the time, but now I have a great job with benefits and my HS classmates are still "exploring their options" in their 6th year of college...
It will be worth it! :)
