Good pickup. It's down in the US and other countries too. I think it's down getting ready for the update!
It seems to usually go down to build up anticipation. It can be anywhere up to a couple of hours.
Spain's online store down too.
However, I just called an official Mac store down my street and they said they don't know anything about any new model coming out today, the guy literally said "it's all rumors, I have received no official info myself" 😕😕😕

All the stores going down just for maintenance shortly before the new MBPs are expected to launch? I don't think this is just going down for maintenance. It could be down for quite a while though

Maybe they're doing site maintenance now so that they know it'll be ready for the increased traffic later today? I don't know, I just hate getting my hopes up and then seeing no change. I've done it before.

Actually, if it is for the new MBPs, then it is a bit of a soft launch for 'Thunderbolt' high speed IO.
In a way, I am glad it is not a major refresh, as my MBP will still look the same as those in the stores, which is good for second hand value. I would be aiming to refresh mine next year, when it it 3 years old.
I'm also going to make a wild prediction. It will either be goodbye iPod Classic or a 'final year' celebration iPod Classic when the store returns.

This will take a couple of hours, expect the store to get back online somewhere before 9am EST, just before stock markets open up in the US.

It didn't seem likely that Apple would let another company essentially announce their product.

Agreed. And if the store is down already the new MBPs should be announced before 1:00 PM EST. The store won't be down all day.
