No point coming to Edinburgh if it's not there. Once the announcement is made, I'll walk across the street and check if it's in-stock, then post here. So just check this thread again shortly after the announcement.
Does anybody else find it pathetic that they have to take down the entire store to update inventory? No other online retailer has such a terribly designed system.

They don't have to, it's to build hype.
So...building hype is more important than ensuring their customers have uninterrupted access to the store? Shows where their priorities lie.

You don't understand marketing, go cry somewhere else.![]()
Why should I give a crap about their marketing?
As a consumer, I care more about how I'm treated than how Apple is marketing their products. If I'm working at, say, a design firm and I'm supposed to order a bunch of Mac Pros today, I'd be pretty pissed if I can't do my job today because Apple took down the entire store to build up some hype for a new product completely unrelated to what I want to buy. Frankly, I'd rather believe they just have a horribly designed online store than believe Apple would be this callous towards their own customers.

I think you're forgetting what's important. You're not about to go look for an alternative for your company just because you have to wait a few hours for their store to go back online.
Almost every big site goes down for extended periods of maintenance at some time or another. If your company is relying on purchasing within a specific couple of hours, then I think your company has more to worry about that Apple's marketing.
