Mate, I am loving the phone. Just hoping Apple and co. keep pushing out updates to make it even better. :)

Oh and Atomic Web Browser is exactly what I've been looking for: fast rendering times, loading in the background and guess what? UNLIMITED tabs. Brilliant. The best 59p ever spent, thanks for the pointer Phat Trance. (I was convinced it was iPad only up til now)

See folks, we can all live happily ever after without having to insult people (not you Figbash, other people who've thankfully been moderated).

Wow, tell you what.... You need more than 8 freaking pages then find another phone that let's you do that. You are bitching just to bitch. You made a post you knew would get a reaction..... Great job! Usually it's only the noobs that troll, you are truly an inspiration!

Yes, that might be true if you have 8 pages loaded with videos/large images, but I think it should be able to dynamically change depending on the content and its usage on the processor, as in my example of loading up macrumors threads, it didn't seem to tax the phone at all and was smooth in opening and switching between pages and other apps, so I'm pretty sure it could cope with more than 8. But I guess that would be a bit un-Apple like to not have a clear distinction of how many pages can be opened at once.

If the number of pages was dynamic you would be able to open twenty text based pages, then in those twenty pages load 20 youtube videos. That's why a dynamic number wouldn't work.

I did find a phone that can open more than 8 pages: its called an iPhone with Atomic Web Browser installed. I was making a point about the phone in the hope of finding a solution. Guess what? I found one.

What's with people on these forums? And you say I'm trolling?

What do you mean 'thankfully been moderated?'

I'm a nice guy, 01jamcom. Like I said, I'm just foolin'...you honestly can't start a thread like this and expect people not to give you a hard time. I'm not the only one, as you can see. So clearly I'm not alone in thinking 8 open pages on a mobile phone is plenty.

Don't be so quick to think users are attacking you, as much as havin' a go at ya. That's the nature of the beast. You start a silly thread (and really seemed like whining) that could've been avoided/resolved with a little research, and we knocked you around a little for it.

See above -- I quoted your ":)" as a sign of my intent. I figured you found what you were looking for and could move on. If you're happy I'm happy! ;)

Now off you go into the bold, beautiful, and sometimes cruel world that is MacRumors! :D

why in gods name would u ever need more than 8 pages at a time is beyond me.....it's rare i get beyond 5 on my laptop let alone a phone!!

Different people have different habits/requirements. Not a hard concept to grasp now, is it? :)

I routinely open 10+ tabs on my browser when I'm on my computer. I may not always need them at the same time, but having them open makes it easy for me to go back to those pages when I need to.

So true, army. Reading some of these threads, registering righteous indignation over issues that are not really issues, I feel like they would complain no matter what. Hand some of these folks 50 bucks, they'll ask you why isn't it 100.

It's a phone. You want more pages? Get another phone.

A mature individual copes with the limitations of a specific consumer device, and EVERY consumer device has limitations...period.

I don't really mind but wondered how it decides which of my pages to overwrite when it opens that ninth Safari window.

Cheers,

I'm in favor of taking dangerous weapons away from people, Lets start with keyboards shall we?

Haha. Thankyou!

Cheers,

I've wondered this as well, on the iPad though. My guess is it was either the oldest opened page or the oldest accessed one. But I never really cared enough to test it.

It starts to delete them from the first one you opened in the same order that you opened them, aka the one most on the right.

First, actually read the thread before you post another worthless answer. You are the whiner. Second, I've found an app that solves my "non-issue". If it was such a non-issue and no one needs this function, why would an app developer make a browser with unlimited tabs that works? And why would it be highly rated on the app store?

I didn't expect my iPhone to cook my flippin dinner, but I did want a few more tabs. I've got them now.

/Thread.

Highly rated? Atomic is only highly rated by people who may have clicked on the rating button. And that developer could have gotten friends to do that or have setup multiple itunes account to do so. Stuffing the ballot box if you will.

The only browser that's been highly rated in the app store is the opera browser.

You're actually quite entertaining. It sounds to me as if you are ready to cry.

The fact is that you asked a question...You received several answers...and then chose to insult those whose answers do not comport with your attention deficit-addled view of reality.

Don't ask the question if you are not prepared for the answer. Most normal people don't need more than 8 pages open at any given time on a smartphone.

Period.

No, I'm not complaining "for the hell of it", its a genuine usage reason that I've found myself in. Of course I have to accept it how it is until Apple might change it, but why should I get told off by you for wanting to discuss it on an Apple forum?

I may have missed it but what is this real life example you have where you need more than 8 tabs? I believe you are looking for nonsensical crap to bitch about.

On a desktop I would, bill paying for one, but frankly not on my iPhone or even my iPad.

Say for example (I use Atomic Browser on my iPad) I am watching forum spy, I see a thread I want to comment on and I click (or tap). It opens, I comment, I'm done and close it. Say that thread results in me posting a link to another page. I open the page, now I'm at three tabs. Even in the worst case I cannot see the need for 8 tabs.

Also, be prepared for Atomic to close all tabs and not reopen when you close the app. ;) It does it on my iPad, I'd venture to guess it does it on the iPhone as well.

For someone that's been around on these forums for as long as you, I would've thought you'd realise there's no need to insult other people's threads when you can clearly see they have a legitimate complaint and aren't just bitching for the hell of it.

What you and some others also can't get your heads round is just because you don't have a personal need for something, doesn't mean someone else won't. Probably the vast majority of people don't need more than 3-4 tabs. Ever. Same with me, I only ever want more tabs in a few situations, such as the forum spy example, which I now use Atomic browser for. Just cause you close your pages, what if I don't? And what if I want to open more than 8 threads to read? It's possible that I want that, or that I have other websites open that I might want to go back to. Having multiple pages open doesn't mean I want to read them all at once, I just want the ability to quickly switch between them when needed.

Anyways, clearly some people will just never understand, its ok.

I think the only person who has demonstrated they don't understand is you.

When you open a thread, be prepared for discussion and debate. It appears that you believe a thread "belongs" to you if you start it, and that you can insult and lambast anybody who doesn't kiss your butt.

Sorry, pal, that's not the way it works around here.

When you ask a question like this, you are likely to get a wide range of answers, ranging from, "Why do you need to do this?" to "Here's how you do it?"

Unfortunately, tightly-wound folks tend to be quite thin-skinned, a trait not conducive to successful Internet forum participation.

Lol, I actually agree with you. That was exactly what I expected. I expected people to say why do you need that many tabs, and I even found a solution. I never wanted anyone to agree exactly with me, but I don't want to be insulted either, just cause its the internet, don't mean you need to be mean :p

I was gonna be really sad and copy in all the insults to show you, and to be fair, I'd like to apologise for calling you a whiner; I wrote that thinking you had said that before (you may have before it was deleted by mods, can't remember), but it was someone else. But you know what, its a nice sunny day where I live, and I'm just starting my holidays so I'll take this thread as a lesson learned in dealing with macrumors people and move on. :)

Built, normally I tire of seeing you rock your inked guns in your oh-so-awesome avatar photo. :D But here, sir, I agree with you 100%. *tip of the hat*

Now can we finally put this thread to bed?? (agree to disagree, folks)

Damn, this thread is still alive??

01jamcon, please, just let it die!! :D

Mate, I would've been happy to end it after your post no. 26. I'm surprised that I kept getting replies. Part of me's just replying to help get me that sweet little "a" after 6502 in my title hahaha

Sorted.

you dont need 8

/thread

That's such a Steve Jobs reply lol.

Over a year after this thread started, iOS 5 is out, the iPhone 4S has some rockin' fast hardware, and ... We're still stuck with just 8 browser windows? Come on Apple, can't you throw us even one or two more tabs, at least on the 4S, eh?

;)

It would be nice if they can include more pages, mainly because the specs should be able to support it fine. I could totally understand the limit on a 3GS, but on an iPhone 4S, there's really no reason why it can't (or shouldn't) be extended.

That being said, I don't really run into a problem with this often.
