Speaking to some O2 stores today they seem to think they will be selling only 8GB's on launch Day, and will get 16GB 1-2 weeks later?? And they seemed pretty adamant at this. What a disappointing launch day it will be if this is the case.

Im so glad ive kept my 2.5 iPhone, i may just stick with this for awhile and enjoy 2.0
This better not be true. After everything I've been hearing, I'll be really annoyed on Friday. I can't give in to the 8GB version.:eek:

Oh dear god! just wait two weeks, it will still be there. Its not like apple is going to bring out a new iPhone in 2 weeks!

You're right there.

Thinking about it, the thing I'm most looking forward to is the app store and the new software. The 3G iPhone isn't exactly a massive upgrade hardware-wise. If I don't get one on Friday, I'll just enjoy the app store too!

I second that... Super Monkey Ball should keep me busy for a while ;)

I won't be wanting a new iPhone. I've decided. So thats one less person in the queue. As long as i have Super Monkey Ball i will be happy!

hello ipod touch i got the nokia n95 might not have touch screen but dose the job o2 dont even work were i am moving too so whats the point

"Please note that we made a limited allocation of iPhone 3G stock available for pre-order online, primarily for those customers that pre-registered their interest. Demand has been very high and we have now sold out of this allocation. This means currently it isn't possible to place an order for the iPhone 3G online.

Please be reassured that for new and eligible to upgrade O2 customers including iPhone existing customers, there will be iPhones available in store from 8:02am on the 11 July. Although, we again expect demand to be very high, so urge you to get down there early. All iPhone stock is being sold on a first come, first served basis."

Thats what ive heard from o2. Im just gna get to my local store 30 minutes before opening as i live in a a small town :D

there might not be a new iPhone in two weeks, but they will probably drop the price in two months.

mmm. Pent up demand - low supply = drop price? I don't think so. This phone is cheap now.

At 6.50am the O2 store staff will be making up rough signs " No whites, no 16GBs, no Pay as you gos".

when they open at 7am and there are only 25 pay monthly black 8Gbs. there will be a stampede/bun fight

Existing iPhone owners will shout about human rights and then be pushed to the back of the queue

by 9.30am they will be sold, and then staff will spend the rest of the day ringing other stores to find stock.

and the roads will be clogged with iphone hunters driving to obscure stores.

by 11am there will be iPhone 3Gs on ebay for £500

Most concerning is that he describes that there will only be "on average a few dozen iPhones in each O2 or CPW store."

He’s being disingenuous here – the number of handsets CW and O2 has been supplied means that the average number of units per store is nothing like ‘few dozen’ – and that’s before you take into account the online orders.

Hype

I think that this is being overhyped.
I have just come out of my local O2 and they are pretty calm.
They did confirm that they will not have the white one (not that i would want one anyway).
But they said they would have both 8gig and 16gig models and expect enough stock to meet demand for the whole of Friday at least.

WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO

We're pleased to inform you that your O2 upgrade order has now been dispatched.

Your delivery details are:
Option: STANDARD DELIVERY
Cost: £0.00
Date of Delivery: Next working day (excluding some remote areas e.g. non-UK mainland, where delivery can take between 3-5 working days)

Orders placed on a weekend or bank holiday will require a further day for delivery. For example, an order placed on a Sunday may not be delivered until Tuesday at the earliest.

Should you be unavailable to take delivery the courier will leave a card to let you know they called and this will inform you how to rearrange delivery.
:p

I must admit, I didn't know if my order was taken or not? I was given NO confirmation number and no e-mail to confirm my order until yesterday!:D

Thank you. Which store in London is that?

Overhyped?

You mean a store running out of a new product running out one the first day doesn't suggest stock problems? Besides, fine for those who can get there on Friday but what about others?

I expect that to be the situation pretty much to repeated all over the country - by Monday, I predict that you won't be able to get an iPhone for love or money. Given that O2 has said that it's going to take "weeks" before stock levels are going to be consistent, I think there's going to be an awful lot of disappointed would-be customers...

Thank you. Which store in London is that?

The one near Cannon Street.

I want to point out that what I meant by overhyped is that they are using the "lack of stock" to get people to rush out and buy it.
Not sure people need to be getting their tents up outside an O2 store from 6am, just to have the pleasure of giving Apple/O2 your money.
Just my opinion.

oh really? that's the one i was planning to try first thing on friday on the way to work.
i'll see you there - i'll be the one who goes into MaccyD's for breakfast because there's only 5 people outside the O2 store... and then comes out to find that 120 people have turned up in the mean time!!

Surely this isn't our first new product launch guys. We all know how this goes. Demand always exceeds supply initially.

What are the alternatives? Apple delays launch for additional 3 weeks to ensure everyone gets one on day one and plenty of stock left over?

Can anyone on this forum agree this would be better?

How can Apple be criticized for this? No other company is any different.

I haven't pre-ordered as I want to see the black one in the flesh before deciding but if I get there at 7:02 and there's a big queue then there's obviously people who want one more than me so I'll just have to wait.

Would I rather the launch be delayed 3 weeks and be guaranteed stock or have a small chance of getting one this Friday? We can't have it both ways.

I'm going to be going to the store on Notting Hill Gate - I think the staff there are already sick of seeing me but I'm going to pop by again tonight and tomorrow night just to confirm. I'm worried that there will be no 16GB versions available. There's no way I'm settling for an 8GB.

My local CPW just confirmed to me that they have a mere 4 16GB iPhones. It is a rather small store though. One member of staff claimed an 8:30 opening, the other corrected them to 9:00 'sharp'. Unfortunately 9 is no good for me as I have to be in work by then. Will pester them again tomorrow to see if it is actually 8:02.

Official announcement by Apple UK tomorrow, apparently O2 will "have loads"

I dropped by the Apple Store Regent Street today and there is no sign of iPhones anywhere in store. The rep told me that there will be a press release and official announcement by Apple UK tomorrow stating that new customers will be able to buy the phones at Apple retail stores. Existing iPhone and O2 Pay Monthly customers will have to go to O2 or CWH stores though, as Apple won't have direct access to the O2 upgrade systems.

He said that O2 stores won't be able to activate the phones, however, but that customers can take their new phones to the Apple Store to get activated. He also said that there "would be loads" of phones and that there should be no problem picking one up in the morning, including 16GB black.

The new iPhone 3G third party cases will not be available until Friday, however, and will not be sold in O2 stores, meaning that those of us who do not want to get our phones scratched, etc, will have to carry it very carefully to the Apple Store to buy one of the cases on the day!

The O2 at Bond Street station will be open at 7.02am but they do not as yet know how many phones they will have. As the Notting Hill Gate store will be open at 8.02am (the one I was planning to go to), I may decide to head out early to the Bond Street store instead.

As I said, the official announcements will come tomorrow so we should know a lot more then.

Wow, what an absolute c**k up! So let me get this straight, if you're a new customer you have to go to the Apple Store in london (great!) to make sure you get one. If your upgrading you have to go to CPW or O2 (no stock!) AND then go back to the apple store to get it activated!?

What a complete mess!

No... if you're an existing customer, you have to go to the O2 store/CPW to do the upgrade bit but then you can just plug in your iPhone to iTunes and activate it. Or, take it to an Apple store, if you're not at home and don't have a portable Mac. When ordering online on Monday, one of the requirements was a Mac/PC running iTunes in order to be able to activate it.

Haha, this is turning out to be entertaining. I really don't see the point of waiting outside in the freezing cold (Predicted to rain) just to be "one of the first". I'm in the UK at the moment (Holiday), and I'll just be hunting around for some of the 1G phones, seeing as, I reckon, people will be selling them cheaper to get the new ones.

Plus, it saves me splashing out £200+ on a new one, haha.
