I am so looking forward to a larger screen! I have said it before, I really want a larger screened version of the iPhone. I don't want an android device, but man the screen sizes are so tempting.

shorter

in addition to making it a larger screen (4.7" seem appropriate) they really need to reduce the top (earpiece) and bottom (home button) bezels somewhat to shorten the device. Most of that seems like wasted space.

"One additional detail he provides is that the 5.5" model may carry the same resolution as the 4.7" model."

I can't see this happening at all. This is Apple, not Nintendo.

Seriously, who hired this guy?
Apple already does this with the iPad Air and iPad mini, and before that with the two iBook sizes.

Not sure it's the screen size that's making some people leave the phone..
Screen size for me is perfect, blocking 4G for my provider on the other hand..

It was for me.

That and iOS 7.

I might as well use Android and get a bigger screen. Happy so far...

----------

After all the comments and everything made by Apple, I still don't see why they would go for anything bigger than 5". A combination of the current 4" and a bigger 4.7" would be ideal. Should make both camps happy.

Ah, the ole 3 on 3 would be perfect:

iPhone mini: 3.5"
iPhone: 4"
iPhone pro: 5"

All bases covered.

Why is it that EVERY SINGLE FRICKING YEAR, analysts always bring the June/July release rumor out when Apple has not strayed from it since they moved to September? Also, EVERY SINGLE FRICKING YEAR, analysts have to start spreading wild rumors about multiple screen sizes?

Will Apple go bigger for the iPhone 6? Most likely. Just leave it at that. Stop trying to make **** up about what the sizes will be.
True, remember those silly iPhone nano rumours in 2011? Made absolutely zero sense.

The thing is, most people don't need to be "productive" on their phone. I also like the idea of a big screen but in reality it's not all that great. Every time I use a big screen phone I wonder what it actually ads to the experience that compensates for the practical downsides (weight, looks ridiculous in your jeans (or doesn't even fit!) etc.).
And the fact that you can actually, comfortably, use an iPhone with one hand really IS a big plus. Try that with a 5" phone..

And I honestly question the premise that people really want those big phones. They only people I see with them are mostly tech junkies. People who want nice specs. If you want top specs with an Android you are forced into buying the huge screen models. A small screen Android phone with top specs would be, imho, a gigantic sales hit. So yeah, the big phones are somewhat of a self fulfilling prophecy.
Other people have iPhones or smaller android phones.

For me, a large-screen phone provides me the ability to, well, better see what's on screen.

One-handed use is overrated (I do mean overrated, not invalid), in my opinion. I spent more time zooming and adjusting on my iPhone than my S4 because I couldn't see/read a damn thing.

My S4 experience is far better. And I have small hands. It took some adjusting to as far as how I hold the phone, yes, but now I can use it one-handed without major issues.

My (non-tech junkie) wife traded her iPad/iPhone combo for a Note 3 and is happier than ever before (her words).

So another way of looking at it is that large-screen phones (phablets) allow you to consolidate both devices, should you desire to do so.

Apple's so-called "vision" and "focus" does the exact opposite: it limits/prohibits this consolidation. They want/force you to have the two devices if you want to play in their ecosystem.

Well, in the case of my wife, that concept (as old-timers say in my native land) "lost them both the goat and the rope", since now they lost a customer in all three spaces: iPhone, iPad, and the ecosystem itself..

As alternatives become more polished and appealing, this will continue.

Don't wait. Nexus 5. Give it a whirl, you might be impressed.

You can always come back...;)

I really, really don't want a larger phone. I have huge hands and would really not like a bigger phone. That's what a tablet is for.

Hopefully, Apple will make products for everyone, not just you.

But given their track record, someone is getting left out.

----------

By "one-handed" you are actually saying "one-thumbed"

If you only use a phone with one hand... your palm and 4 finger must hold the device... and you interact with the screen using only your thumb.

Well guess what... the iPhone is an amazing pocket computer. I will use as many fingers as I possibly can!!!

Pinching and zooming... tapping with 2 or 3 fingers in some apps... there is waaay more you can do than with just one thumb.

Honestly... "one-handed" is nowhere near the top of my wish list.

And that is the best reason to have a larger-screened phone. You can do more, far more comfortably with two hands (and actually see what you are doing).:D

Actually my main fear is that if they release a large screen model, they will abandon the smaller screen model (or make it a low end model with last year's specs). Just like you see on Android. I think that's what most people fear; the choice between either a big/high end model and a small/low end model. And no choice for a small/high end model like we have today.
And seeing that Apple doesn't really like consumer choice, you can be damn sure that they will only sell one model.

See if you would get out of your Apple bubble, you would know that comment has already been proven false.

Hi Tim. Oh wait...you're not Tim, so you don't have a clue what Apple is doing. lol

Since when is Samsung failing?

That seems to be the response here when someone's iPhone gets a hairline scratch only visible at a certain angle. :D

Shhhh some don't kindly to the truth. :D

But yes, you are right. It's nice to see someone on here who actually knows what they're talking about.

LOL. You sir, made my day. And I love your signature. :D

----------

I hope they don't bring out Samsung sized crap.

Why?

Are "they" going to force you to buy it?

Absolutely ridiculous! It's like holding an iPad mini up to your head lol

Which Samsung monstrosity is that?

Actually see what you're doing? The text isn't any bigger, you've just got more screen esate. I can't of a single time since the day the first iPhone came out that I've though "I can't see what I'm doing here"...

Yep. Such is life when being an Apple customer.

Which makes me wonder sometimes why be an Apple customer in the first place (since they killed "my" product).

Which drove me to actually go out on a limb and try out their competitors products (since I "want" a product they refuse to make).

Which made me (and the wife) the happy owners of their competitors products (which surpassed expectations of competitors' products).

Which now makes me not an Apple customer (in the phone space, at least).

Their loss, my gain.

Why deny yourself, for some fanaticism? At least make an informed decision. ;)

"Actually see what you're doing? The text isn't any bigger, you've just got more screen esate." More screen real estate is the point. But screen clarity, contrast, brightness, and sometimes font size are different.

"I can't of a single time since the day the first iPhone came out that I've though "I can't see what I'm doing here"..." That's because you're using an iPhone.

I couldn't either until I gave an S4 a fair shake. Then I was like "Oh, OH! Wow, I get it now."

Not to say it'll be the same for you, but for me, it was. BIG time (pun intended).
;)

One only needs to watch 10 mins of an episode of Vampire Diaries to see how ridiculous phablets look while held to one's head.

A Bluetooth headset is an obvious remedy for somebody who wants a big screen on a mobile phone. Odd that nobody brings that up.

I prefer the current screen size by the way.

They did not, they released a phablet, and it's not their flagship model. S Series is their flagship series, and it outsells the Note series 4:1.

Now if they increase the size of upcoming S6 to 5.5, it would be destined to fail.

Its still a smartphone, "phablet" is a made up term, and it still sold well. Latest figures put the Note 2 at 30 million, and the Galaxy S3 at 50 million. Hardly 4:1.

And saying "5.5 is to bait Samsung to copy" never specified just the Galaxy S series.

When did everyone become Captain Hook?? Come on Apple, take my money and give me a 5.5" iPhone!! I imagine most people only have their iPhones up to their ears barely 10% of time it's being used, anyway. Let us see those 10 million glorious apps w/o needing the screen 6" from our faces.

Okay, you ever use Safari in portrait mode? If you have, you must be a superhero.

Many didn't want a fingerprint sensor.
Apple didn- oh wait...

That doesn't mean anything, and there are people who want a 5.5" phone. :)

No. Many didnt need the fingerprint sensor.
Its hard to see why anyone would not want it, as they can just turn it off.
You cant just turn big and uggly off.

You can't just get your facts from Wikipedia and expect people to take you seriously. :)

S series has sold close to 200 million and Note series has sold around 50 million. (All data before Note 3 and S5 release.)
