iPhone 6 rumors have repeatedly suggested that Apple is working on two new sizes for the iPhone. Predictions most commonly include 4.7" and 5.5" sizes, up from the current 4" screen of the iPhone 5S. Milunovich's report agrees that Apple is working on those same two models, but isn't sure both will launch:The analyst pegs the launch date for the next iPhone to be in August or September, but the release of the 5.5" model is less certain.

Im glad they wont be introducing 2 new resolutions. 1 adds just that much more fragmentation.

If they make the 4.7 high enough resolution then a 5.5 with the same resolution will be fine.

I'm curious just what these analyst analysed. I'm pretty sure everyone on macrumours qualifies to be one these so called "analyst"

They have to go 1080 with these.

Why? If Apple's Retina science is correct, you won't be able to see the difference above about 320ppi at phone viewing distances.

If you're arguing that screens higher than 320ppi do look better because of their higher resolution at phone viewing distances, can you provide a source?

Apple May as well copy Android with a bigger screen. They have already copied everything else from them and called it innovative, and over charge for it

Samsung already released a 5.5 inch smartphone back in 2012, The Galaxy Note 2, it was a success.

They did not, they released a phablet, and it's not their flagship model. S Series is their flagship series, and it outsells the Note series 4:1.

Now if they increase the size of upcoming S6 to 5.5, it would be destined to fail.

I don't really want to search for the source. All you need to do is look at a 720p smartphone and a 1080p one side by side. The difference is small, but there. Regardless Apple would still get laughed at for just now releasing 720p in 2014.

I wonder if a 5.5" iPhone will make me stop using my iPad mini retina, the way my iPad Mini retina caused me to stop using my 10" iPad...

I'm just looking forward to all the people praising how amazing their phone's display is and how they can see everything so much better and that it just makes perfect sense to use a phone "this" size. It might be fun to then then cross-reference those praises to those who mocked Android phone sizes and complain about their pockets or holding up an iPad to their ear to make a call.

What makes you think that everyone who dislikes over 5" display phones is OK with 4" display phones. I for one want a bit larger screen but not ridiculously big! I don't mind if Apple made a alphabet but if they come up with something like 5" or preferably slightly smaller, I would buy it on the day 1.

Now, just in case you wonder what is ridiculously big for my taste, I have attached an image.

Not surprised but if I was to bet I'd say Apple will go with a 5" screen, nice and even and right in the middle and still a lot less than the iPad Mini. But they Mini is 7.9" so what do I know LOL

What carrier is that?

A ton of carriers in Europe who aren't Apple's "partner" networks. Where I live you can't use LTE on your iPhone (99% of them here are off contract and unlocked) on 2 of the 3 national networks. Apple only enables LTE for their partner carriers. Thankfully there is now a law in the works that will forbid this practice. Apple even cites "technical reasons". Which is just a blatant lie (fwiw I use my Jailbroken phone on LTE on one of the "forbidden" networks).

Wow... "It may or may not happen."

This is a really good analyst! Very informative.

I never implied it was everyone.

I hope it's true. If I had to choose one it'd be the 4.7"..5.5" just sounds too big. The 5" on my old S4 was OK but definitely wouldn't take anything bigger.

4.7" is the sweetspot. comfortable. not too small and not too big.

"One additional detail he provides is that the 5.5" model may carry the same resolution as the 4.7" model."

I can't see this happening at all. This is Apple, not Nintendo.

Seriously, who hired this guy?

returns

That's a good one. You know the majority of those shipped units are returned to sender if they don't sell....meaning Samsung has to take them all back if the end retailer doesn't sell them.

I honestly don't know who is "buying" all these phones. I was at a design award event late last year probably 800 people. I could have counted on one or two hands the number of Droid devices I saw. I also saw 1 (one) 5+" device. Who is supposedly buying all these things? I don't see them.
