Last time I checked, I am a black female. I am Getting the 6+
I guess the article might apply to me though...the purchaser is a white guy who makes decent money...my anti Apple,Droid carrying, software engineer husband :D

It is, by definition, "above average." (The average U.S. salary is about $50k.)

Totally fair to apply the word "rich" to that, then. You could obviously break it down more and give more levels, but if it's a simple yes/no, rich/not equation than anything over average clearly gets the 'rich' label.

Then on that account, I need to call mom and say, "MA! I'm RICH!" Ha, hardly!!

Lets just say I'm able to afford what I have.

$75,000 is quite rich in my opinion. That amount easily puts a person in the top 1% in the world. The global 1% likes to take the top 1% of themselves and say that's being rich, but forget that they're in the top 1% too.

Most people on this website are probably in the top few percentages globally. It's hard to see all the wealth around us.

"Apple did not respond to a request for comment on this story."

Of course they won't comment for your ****** article you morons...!

The income to be in the 1% of households in PA is $387k. Then again it's $511k in NY, $688k in DC and $455k in ND. (search top 1% map on Yahoo, it's the first image, from Business Insider)

Wealth is all relative. In Mexico, most of us would be rich, but not so much in France.

Anyone on this forum has Internet access. The technological divide itself sets all of us apart from those who don't have plumbing. Obviously 75K in a remote village is rich but the people buying iPhones don't live in a hut.

I earn only 30K a year and I have no problems buying an iPhone. Wealth is only relative. Someone with 80K can have a hard time getting by if he/she has several mouths to feed and a mortgage to pay.

I would only call myself rich if I had enough money to live off of interest.

This^ 80K with a family of 4 with mortgage, 2 cars, health insurance, car insurance, electric, water, garbage, gas heat, etc.. all adds up to living pay check to paycheck. I think buying yourself an iPhone every two years is not going to put you in the poor house though.

Uh, since when is $75k/yr "rich?"

Very good point, and they don't point out that salaries have stagnated for the last ten years. I make approximately 5k more now, than I did in 2004. That 5k doesn't make up for inflation by any stretch of the imagination so my dollar buys heaps less than it did in 2004.
