has anyone heard more about the "only 2 watches per household for online pre-orders" thing?

In the UK a friend who had three separate orders in his account spoke to apple online chat and was told that one would be cancelled when the orders went through to the next stage as it was two per household.

There was nothing in place to stop us ordering 3 in different orders and nothing online that I could see at the time saying "only 2 allowed".

Kinda worried about them randomly choosing one to cancel though :/ If it's really the case i'd rather cancel one myself now but I'd prefer to get all three if possible!

Doesn't seem like anyone at apple really knows for sure

I've just had a mail to say one of my orders has been cancelled here in the UK. Only had two pre-ordered, one was the 38mm SS and the other was a 42mm SS. So now I've only got one on pre-order. Anyone else get this?

This is what it said. I'm the only person who ordered in my household.

    Dear Apple Customer,

Thank you for your recent Apple Online Store purchase.

We are unable to process your order as it exceeds the quantity limits per customer. As a result, we've cancelled your order and you will not be charged. We apologise for any inconvenience.

    Sincerely,

    Apple Store

It's almost mandatory that Apple follows their tradition of limiting availability.

That enables them to trumpet an announcement to the world that
their "SOLD OUT" in record time.

A headline like that has been the driving force in their ongoing quest to beat Walmart and other high volume stores for supremacy.

Well the online chat guy said "it'll be randomly chosen and cancelled by finance"

but I suspect it'd be more like the first two would be ok and the rest cancelled?

    ----------

but you only had two on order :/ so that doesn't make sense! I've not read *anywhere* that only one is allowed

I just got off the line with online customer service. The rep I spoke to even had me hold to check with reference documents and a supervisor.

If you placed a single order for more than one unit, it may be that one of your watches will be canceled.

If you placed each order separately, your orders should be fine.

They set a limit of one per order, not one per household.

This was an attempt to prevent online scalpers from creating bulk orders.

If you have concerns about your order, call online customer service.

All my orders (2 watches and a band) were separate orders done through the Apple Store App.

I just got off the phone… they said my 4 on one AppleID is a no-go. They made me cancel 2.

She threw in a free charger cable for the inconvenience.

Now I have to re-order the other 2 watches and wait until June. :(

I was just told the limit is 2 per person per card. Since I ordered all three on different orders using different cards, I SHOULD be good. They wouldn't flat out say I was fine, just that I SHOULD be fine unless I were to be contacted by finance.

i dont know if its worth staying quiet and taking the risk of all 3 orders being accepted, or just phoning. But I can hardly see them saying my 3 orders are fine!

Did your order make it to processing before being cancelled?

    Also see this thread:

Not sure if it's worth trying to get them merged, but there are some additional anecdotal reports there (more useful to go to the end of the thread, most of the first page is me thinking out loud at 3am).

One thing that is nice about the limit is it will eliminate some of those extra orders that people placed just so they could go check them out in person today and maybe even move some shipping times up. On the other hand I placed 3 orders, I would hope the would use common sense and cancel the last order but as of now mine are all active.

That is actually how the apple store app made me order. I selected the first one and paid, and then the second and paid.

the 2 per customer warning appears in the app only if you put them in he desktop basket and then open the app

I did too. I had 4. The rep said I would have to choose 2.
At first she didn't think it was a problem, but put me on hold and came back to say that later I would have to cancel 2 of them.

I cancelled two now to ensure Apple just didn't pick a random 2 and cancel.

    only two per household?

The limit warning is not really advertised, I feel like it's a little unfair to retroactively limit to 2. They should have made it so you couldn't even order above the limit.

I ordered 4 and I'm going to raise hell if they cancel any of them. Had they stated up front that it was a limit of 2 per household/account/apple id (whatever) then I would have ordered 2 on my girlfriends account when shipping what still 4/24-5/8 rather than ordering all 4 on my account.

Has anybody who had an order cancelled asked for proof of their 2 per household policy?
