I purchased a pair of watches using the App and it didn't state a maximum limit last night. However, I tried the website shortly later (when the website was up finally) and it prohibited you from ordering more than 2.

I don't think you're going to win any wars by complaining IMO. Waste of time.

VERY shady ... I asked where the limits were posted and they couldn't come up with an answer. I asked why they didn't at least give me an option on which to cancel and she said that isn't their policy. In fact she wasn't the one who canceled it, the team that handles the orders did it.

You should call back because somebody mentioned that they received a free charger for the inconvenience. At least try to get a free something.

 thanks for the warning. One of our 3 orders is a birthday gift for my husband's sister. We don't want that cancelled!

The IPhone 6 plus PreOrder was our very first Pre Order fiasco but that was through Verizon. And we did get out orders in the end.

THIS, though...it's one thing to limit scalpers. I guess they thought you were a scalper but I don't know. It was just 3 orders. That's not unreasonable for one household.

I get limiting scalpers ... but none of these are to be sold. However, Apple made no official announcement on limits. If there was a limit they should have been clear about that. I wouldn't have called or even tried to buy 3.

I am trying to calm down ... I am too pissed to talk to them, gonna call later today or maybe tomorrow.

I've been texting screenshots of your posts to my husband because we also have 3 separate orders (on his Apple ID) and here's what he texted back to me:

"It is so out of my hands at this point I just can't care #. If I don't get my watch I don't get my watch. If they cancel my order my level of disgust would be monumental. There was nothing on the site and it allowed it. To go back after the fact is the height of arrogance and tells me apple is jumping the shark".

I don't know how widespread this cancellation cluster cluck is going to become. My husband is brand agnostic at work but an enthusiast at home. I'm an enthusiast but only because the customer service for us was always something we counted on in our particular region.

My husband was already becoming fed up that Apple never seems to make enough to supply launch demands of time tested products. Last night he was already grumpy that within about 5 or 6 seconds delivery dates on the gray Sport were already pushed back considerably.

I'm very upset this happened to you. Thank you for generously warning the rest of us not to call them and draw attention to our orders. Though it sounds like this could happen anyway.

Thing is though, unless they have some automated system in place, they are gonna have to rake through a hell of a lot of single orders.

Someone mentioned the finance department handling the cancellations earlier. Or maybe in the other thread. Could be they will look for hits against the same CC#?

I've been wondering about that. I hate to keep harping on the same point in different threads but our family lives in a high tech affluent area with a diverse mix of people racially, ethnically, sexual orientation, nationality, age ....we've got a great mix here to sample from. Most of these diverse people we know share a common interest in tech and particularly Apple tech. But not a single person we know or heard of or have contact with has shown any interest in the Apple Watch even when specifically asked. Just my sister-in-law. There's been nothing on social media from my friends. My husband is so strongly networked that his Apple business contact has been actually badgering him about getting the watch to be sort of an ambassador for it among his business contacts. But he stops short of offering my husband one, lol....my husband is no Drake or Pharrell!

It's so odd to my husband and I that with a keen interest in drumming up a customer base and getting this watch out there, Apple has taken the Draconian step of canceling orders if you ordered more than two per Apple ID or household (not clear what their limit of 2 applies to).

I'm used to Apple being inscrutable but this is so odd. Are they trying to thwart scalpers? Undecided returns...and if so, the intelligent thing would have been to have the product well available for try outs well in advance of pre-ordering.

With such little visible sign of interest among people we've always known to be keenly interested Apple launches...how many orders do they have and how did they burn through their protected supply and reasonable shipping dates so soon? What the hell is going on with them?

I've just gave up my third. i didn't want to but hubby would be raging if his got cancelled instead. :( thanks a bunch Apple

I just hope her info was accurate. #

Me, too. I bought one for myself that is in the 4/24-5/8 window and one for my mom that is in the June window. If they cancel one hopefully it's the June order. It's a "rain check" Mother's Day gift and I'm assuming by June they are caught up and can ship quickly after that. I want to be able to show off the watch in person on Mom's Day, but I don't think she's going to want the one I bought for myself because of the style. #

Between this and the MacBook delays it looks like Angela Ahrendts had a bad day with respect to her new vision for the stores. I think they'll get it right next time, though. I must admit the ordering process was very smooth, especially compared to the iPhone 6 process.

My thoughts:

--Pretty sure this isn't the first launch of a new Apple product that had limited quantities per household/buyer/nomenclature of your choice. No point overthinking that part of it. They don't want half their stock to end up on eBay.

--But they should have been more explicit about it. Obviously a lot of things changed at the very last minute with this launch and I have a sneaking suspicion they did not decide on the hard number until the zero hour.

--I don't think the 'my peer group isn't interested' argument is terribly relevant. None of my fabulously hip and tech-aware peer group was interested in the iPad 1 either. Not until they saw mine. (That said, I don't think the Apple Watch will do the same amount of business as the iPad. But I'm not sure anyone ever expected it to and it doesn't seem related to Apple's quantity policies in any case.)

--I expect the wide range of possible configurations is translating into logistics issues they've never had to deal with before, so we are definitely paying the early-adopter price now.

Thing is though, unless they have some automated system in place, they are gonna have to rake through a hell of a lot of single orders.

They defiantly have an automated system. Could be with CC#'s, shipping addresses, apple id's, etc. but they defiantly have an automated system. The system will scrub for one of those criteria or multiple criteria and then put orders that match the parameters in a Que for an actual human to look at. Really not that hard especially for a tech company like apple. Weather or not orders get cancelled is going to depend on what their scanning criteria is.

I think it was a mistake having the pre-orders a few hours BEFORE try on appointments. Many people ordered both sizes to try at home.

Try on appointments should have been the week before and I think there would have been far less extra orders.

They cancelled one of mine so I rang them. I only had ordered two and both were on different credit cards but on my name. The person I spoke to said that it was an error at their end and they would reinstate the order, they told me to look for an email within in the next 24 hours. I hope they were telling the truth otherwise I'm going to be so pissed.

THIS! a thousand.... no.... a million times... THIS!

(so very sorry about your order being cancelled...... :( )

Definitely. If forum comments are anything to go by.

Yeah was not sure if our experience with peer group interest was relevant or not to this concern. I just don't know really how to gauge their demand when visible interest among people we had always known to be enthusiastic for Apple product launches was so lacking.

Well if they meant to thwart scalpers the someone needs to check out the scalper thread on this board because those intending to sell for a profit elsewhere seemed to have run into no problems, probably because they apparently only are trying to scalp one single extra purchase. That's too minor a level for me to worry or care about. The one extra could be for their Aunt Mildred for all I care. And really on that small of a scale, Apple perhaps should not care either, since they are catching and hurting legiimate purchasers by casting so wide a net. I'd think it helps already to take steps to eliminate he launch day queues where the large volume scalpers really focus.

Going after someone purchasing 3 or even 4 for a household is a bit petty. People do live with children or parents old enough to use this product. It's awful to be put in a position where you have to choose which family member gets cut out and has to wait MONTHS beyond the launch date now.

My husband and I were discussing this last night at dinner. It's weird that they didn't have try-on appointments prior to the preorders. That's odd.

I feel for those who are indeed getting shafted. It sucks. However, I applaud this policy considering all the threads I saw where people were casually saying that were going to order multiple watches and just return the ones they don't want. Scr3w that! Way to tie up stock so others can't get what they may actually want - dolts. Good on Apple bringing the hammer down. I do feel for the collateral damage folks. The roller coaster of ups and downs can really tear at a person.

It's also odd that people and one in particular were hired for millions of $$ to head up what should be an enviable retail experience. Instead we were left with murky rules, inconsistent customer experiences and glaring omissions in logic such as this, that one would not expect of people supposedly qualified to command multi-million dollar salaries. It is shocking that it's the little things that are adding up to customer anxiety and dissatisfaction.

Maybe they just needed another week to prepare for this.

I have been reading twitter and I see a lot of people buying both and will return 1. I honestly think this is a bigger problem than scalping right now.

Scalpers are very hard to deal with and there is sadly no method that fixes the problem without screwing legit customers.

No, it's not good on Apple for this. They created the problem by failing to have the product debuted for demo at least a week in advance of pre-orders.

People know from hard experience the risk is high they wouldn't have enough inventory or even enough in the production queue to meet launch day demand. So people pre-order to avoid having to wait months beyond launch for what they want. Out of desperation they order an extra they aren't sure about so they don't get stuck with nothing that is a satisfactory choice for them.

The remedy is so easy and stated and restated by so many customers for free. They are paying millions to a certain person who still can't figure that out, apparently.

I know reps are known for not actually having a clue about anything, but I wanted to share my conversation about this

limit of 2

It's pretty clear that (at least on website), it comes back and says you can't have more the two watches.

I'd be pissed if Apple canceled a watch order when I'd only ordered 2, regardless of being in the same order, same apple id, or 2nd "fake" apple id.

Sounds like so far, anyone legitimately with only two watches total, who may have had one canceled got it re instated.

If anyone with only two watches had one of them canceled, please update! That doesn't seem right.

I had one of two cancelled. They've said they will reinstate within 24 hours but nothing as of yet. If they haven't reinstated by tomorrow afternoon (I'm in the UK) I'm going to call again and find out why.
