I think you might have gotten the wrong one? It only sells through Elago on Amazon right now and it doesn't offer free shipping.

Oh my bad. Got a lot of orders coming in an mixed them up. Got mine for $20 with shipping.

Got the right one. Prolly the best case for me now..

These look very nice but not to keen on the open top and bottom around the frame of the iphone, any solutions as to how to keep them protected whilst using the elago?

Don't drop the phone on that edge?

This is a minimal protection case, and should be treated as such. I've got it just to give a little extra protection against dings and scuffs, and possibly add a little protection in a drop. I know it's not foolproof, and in the right circumstances, would be like having no case on. That said, the only real risk with this design is if you drop the phone so that it hits on the top or bottom front edge on another edge (like a table). If you drop it on a floor, there's no way for the phone to take a direct hit to anything. (rough asphalt could, but not a smooth floor). So, I'd view the risk of the more open top and bottom as minimal. I like the design a lot. I don't feel like I really have a case on.

I totally agree with you and also its one of the finer aspects of the case however the risk will always be in the back of my mind.

I was pondering whether one of those side skins would do the job as it would protect the top and bottom parts of the frame.

I don't think skins would work well, as the case is such a tight fit. Thing is, because of the slight lip, there's no way for a direct hit on the top or bottom to happen unless you smack it along an edge of a table or some other sharp edge. Now, it's possible to hit on the lip, have the phone dislodge from the case and then impact, but you'd still have some impact protection vs. a bare phone in that instance. I don't think skins would offer any real protection that the case doesn't already offer, though some may prefer to have a screen protector on the case. I think that this case would work really well with one of the glass screen protectors.

Thanks for that you offer some reassurance :)

Which glass screen protector are you referring to?

I am however looking at the best skin ever skin and wondering whether that would along the sides inside the elago as it appears to be very thin and not that intrusive.

I was talking about the Glas.t or the Bodyskinz Pure. I haven't used them, as I don't use screen protectors, but they look to be the best as far as protectors go.

I don't have skins so I can't test, but I don't think the Elago will work with skins. The fit is just too tight/perfect. It is molded EXACTLY to the shape of the bare phone, and snaps in very tightly. You might get it to snap, but I think you'd be bending the frame out a bit.

I see.

I guess my main concern isn't that if it were dropped there's not enough protection, but mainly that with the open top and bottom, the phone is more prone to the deadly scuff and de-anodizing?

I use Gelaskins on the back and Spectra wraps on the sides and have no problems with this case. Just in case anyone was wonderin...

Ah see so if I bought a set of spectra wraps which appear to be quite cheap and they ship to the UK, I should not have any problems using them with the elago?

Kind of bummed they don't make an aluminum and polycarbonate one with the cut out for the Apple Logo.

It appears as though the one with the cut out doesn't have the aluminum part.

Or am I just missing it?

Talked to Elago and they said they shipped some to Amazon already so it should have Prime free shipping soon.

I think I'm going to order one of these, anyone have any luck with taking the white off of the lettering on the back without damaging the case?

Received mine today. Nice case. The material on the sides and even the back seems to be fingerprint magnets. Mine also came defective.

Let's see how good Elago's CS is.

That sucks. Hopefully they'll replace it quickly for you!

Got my blue one today. Thought I would share a few photos and my thoughts. No defects, the bubble wrap envelope it shipped in was pretty bland, but inside is what matters, right?

The simple packaging inside for the case is great. Oh boy, is this case sexy.

Judge for yourself:

Mine doesn't seem to really show fingerprints. Also it is a perfect fit. The lip of the case in the front is very small so I don't know exactly if it does the job if you were to place it screen down.

How is it defective? And are they covering the costs to ship it back?

Looks at the picture I posted. The metal backplate is coming up.

CS replied they are sending another case. Not sure about a shipping charge.

Oh I saw your post through my phone first and the picture didn't come up. I see what you mean. I guess they since they didn't ask for the case back, you don't need to worry about another charge.
