I'm a fellow College student, I go to TCNJ, and I get offers from Capital One in the mail all the time. They are offering 0% APR until 2011 for me. I'm sure you can get the same exact deal. As for me those offers go straight into the recycle bin.

The only CC I have is a Capital One card. I'm so mad at them.. I've had the card over 2.5 years and I have yet to get a credit limit increase. I call and ask for one once every six months or so.

My limit is $1,500. >_> and it's at 7% interest.. I'd rather get the 0%.

Edit: As to the OP, just use the Snow Leopard DVD. It will be much easier.

I'll never even use this machine to it's full potential so there's no need for me to worry about the improved model on the way.

Here, here. That's the way I look at it as well. I wanted it then, so I bought it.

I bought my MBP on Thanksgiving and am still amazed by it. Enjoy!

I see you didn't go for the Bad Boy Pro. Any reason for that?

Another brilliant contribution.

"Mine is better than yours blah blah blah....."

What's a "Bad Boy Pro"?

Don't you know about the bird? Everybody knows that the bird is the word.

What's a "Bad Boy Pro"?

It's a futile attempt to force yourself to believe that the money you paid for your machine is somehow justified. I see this most often when people buy outside their income bracket. Just sayin'. ;)

In other words, shambo firmly believes that his 15" MBP is future proof because it is 15" and not 13" because we all know the smaller the screen size the likely it is to become obsolete faster.

Exactly. Shambo thinks he's better than everyone else (even 17 inch owners) because he bought the *nearly* top of the line 15 inch Macbook Pro with a matte screen in order to "future proof" his computer. He started several threads and in general just spams the forums with the same statement over and over.

Thanks for the explanation. Obviously, some don't understand that there's no such thing as "future-proof" when it comes to technology. Every computer will be obsolete and incompatible at some point in time. The best you can do is buy one that meets your needs for now and the near future, get plenty of good use from it, then replace it when it no longer meets your needs. To get so wrapped up in bragging about a particular computer is illogical and shows a lack of maturity.

LOL! I get it now. Well, I bought a 15" that, at purchase time, was the top of the line, but it's hardly future-proof. It works fine and suits my needs for the moment, but I'd replace it in a heartbeat if I found something that better met my needs. But, then again, my self-esteem isn't dependent on my computer.... or anything else I own.

What's with these guys? I thought I was the only one. Cap1 was my first credit card and I got it back in 2005 when I got out of the Marines. I've had ONE credit limit increase ($300 -> $500) and my credit is pretty darn good. I have several other credit cards with limits much higher.

Significantly better. Hell, my computer that doesn't even have a matte display is much better, yet it doesn't get the moniker "bad boy pro".

Shambo, are you jealous that his machine is more "future proof" than yours?
Certainly not old bean. I have the high end 15 incher which I consider to be Apples sweet-spot of size, portability, power, and future-proof. I certainly tried the 17 incher out for size but found it too 'clunky' so opted for the only obvious choice, the 15" bad boy.

And I am getting more than a bit sick of people intentionally misinterpreting the idea of future-proofing a hardware investment. Watch my sig for further details.

I don't believe that "future proofing" is really sensical:
It really doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Say for example you bought the highest iMac two years ago, that's $2,198. Chances are, the low-end iMac could have performed most of the tasks over the past two years and it would cost half that. The new base model iMac is definitely faster then the one you would have bought two years ago.

I especially don't believe that future proofing is applicable here given the immediacy of a new model. People should just be happy with what they have, even if they have some odd nicknames.

He's not comparing it the the OP's he's comparing it to Shambo's "bad boy pro" <<--Which isn't really that great.

Exactly right, mine is a 2.53 13" with 8GB of ram, 160 GB Intel XM-25 SSD and a 320 WD Black in the optical bay. I have the *entire* set of National Geographic Magazines from 1888 to 2008 on my SSD for story research while on the road. The 13 fits in infinitely more places than my 15 ever did, this was the main reason I got it.

Your opinion only. Nothing more.
and future-proof.
It's not.

It's a "MacBook Pro"

... not a "Bad Boy"

There's no such thing as "future-proofing" hardware, and it's NOT an investment. At best, it's a capital expenditure. Investments are intended to increase in value over time, the exact opposite of what happens to computers.

Your signature is hardly a valid source for anything but your personal, biased opinion.

Absolute BEEEEEEEEEAST

I agree with all of your other points, but you can future-proof by buying an empty case to fit all of the components that you'll undoubtedly need to upgrade every five months when newer tech comes out. Boom: expandability and upgradability (albeit at a FAR higher cost), haha ;)

And Shambo, you're in the wrong here. Cannot "future-proof" a laptop no matter how hard you try.

What size case would you need? :D

Maybe ten or so of these all soldered together into one gigantic cube (with the ability to add on more to the sides, obviously):

You know, just to make sure that Shambo can always have the latest and greatest--no matter what size the component.

Of course, that would be kinda painful if technology progresses to the point that personal computers of the future are implanted under the skin!

Yeah, but Shambo doesn't care: he's in it to win it, even if it means fitting components (heat sink--ouch) under the skin.

K, done making fun of Shambo's silly comment. Returning to normalcy.

Congrats again, OP.

I'm getting more than a bit sick of having to read Shambo's mundane posts and threads.

I think, perhaps, when Shambo talks about his 15" Badboy, he's not talking about a computer. Mancrush?
