Ah, he's just silly, there is a reason Apple makes three sizes of portables, it's not a one size fits all world.

Congratulations. Let's just hope the rumors aren't true about the impending update. ;)

Ahh to wait for the next best thing!!! I just took the leap for a 2.8 UNI. If its updated so what... I got a great machine, serves its purpose.

What's with these guys? I thought I was the only one. Cap1 was my first credit card and I got it back in 2005 when I got out of the Marines. I've had ONE credit limit increase ($300 -> $500) and my credit is pretty darn good. I have several other credit cards with limits much higher.

Who else do you have CCs with? I would love to have a higher limit - in case of emergency. I don't use near my $1500 limit unless I buy a TV or a new laptop or something of that nature, but I want it for emergency purposes.

Any suggestions?

Well unfortunately Shambo, hardware wise, even the top of the line 17" isn't that impressive and there are plenty of laptops with better hardware. While far from obsolete, we're not exactly cutting edge either.

Shambo's explanation doesn't really make sense to me. I mean sure it's possible. But the "investment" portion doesn't make sense to me.

Exactly, the term investment is wrongly used when people talk about computers.

Here is the definition.
1. To commit (money or capital) in order to gain a financial return.

I really don't see how shambo uses this term in a lot of his posts/sig.

The term investment isn't applicable to a computer, unless you are going to measure productivity and what not.

"future-proofing an investment" is the term that is non-sensical via Shambo's definition to me. See my previous example as my thoughts regarding better financial choices.

My MBP is used for work thus gaining me financial return, more often than not, weekly over and above the initial outlay for the machine. Without this bad boy I could not earn, it is therefore an investment.

What is it that you do then? I bet you could do whatever you do using a $500 Windows laptop as well. You bought what you bought out of want, you need a computer but not a MBP ... of any size.

I would suggest checking with Charles Schwab. They approved me for the highest amount with a fair interest rate and when I asked for more than they initially offered they made a second offer. I also got a nice one from my credit union. And then there's a good number of store specific cards (clothing, automotive, electronics, etc.) that all top that $500.

I'd drop them if it didn't hurt my credit score.

As someone who is studying to become an accountant, I strongly disagree with your interpretation of the term Investment.

What you have is a depreciating piece of equipment.

You really think a $500 Windows laptop has the bragging rights of a 15 inch "BadBoy Pro"?

I've been making money with computers since before Apple or PCs were around, but they're still not investments. They're tools. Depreciating tools that wear out, break down and become obsolete. Over many years working as a Registered Investment Advisor, I never once recommended any computer as an investment to my clients.

A little basic reading from reputable sources will clear up the confusion in your mind between computers and investments. Of course, I'm referring to sources OTHER than your own blog or uninformed opinion!

So excited ordered me a new mbp 17 with ssd ooohhhhh sssshhhhnnnnaappaas!!!!! Can't wait till it gets here I can't sleep bout to pee in my pants lol hahaha

I feel sorry for you. A revision is coming up, and most likely it will have more than just under the hood changes.

I certainly tried the 17 incher out for size but found it too 'clunky' so opted for the only obvious choice, the 15" bad boy.
Have you ever thought that 13" users might think the exact same about a 15"? Actually, I shouldn't have even bothered replying. Shambo loves to make himself look like an ignorant fool.

I believe Shambo did try the 13" settled on the 15"

Whatever makes you happy...

Ok cool guy

Woohoo! Congrats OP!

Even if there is an update who cares? There will always be updates. Now you need an Apple Cinema Display to add to your MBP ;)

but there's always a next revision. and another one after that  and maybe one more? does that mean i shouldn't buy any laptops? maybe i need to wait till 2012 when all revisions will be final :D

No, no, no, guys, you're all missing the point here. If you just future-proof your investment like shambo, everything will be f-i-n-e! ;)

I no longer want the 15" anymore, everytime I'd look at it I will think of that god awful nickname for it.
