Kudo's for BB? LOL!

These idiots resealed a returned iPad and sold it to you! They do this all the time but then most retailers do!

I would not give BB kudos for that!:p

they sold him a sealed "open box" so they didn't try to market it as a brand new tablet. I think BB did good by the OP, though they would have been better off checking the iPad before putting it back in the box and not sealing it - why sell something that is "open box" but sealed.

Sorry for the error. Always highly suspect of BB as I purchased a camera as new and was sealed in plastic. Gave it as a gift and the person opened up only to find the camera was not only used but dirty with finger prints all over it and the warranty card filled out. It took a loud argument with the BB manager to get my money back! He insisted the camera was new and not reboxed and being sold as new. Seems all the retailers do this including Amazon. BB just failed to check out the returned item before re "sealing" to box.

I'm not saying they don't do that, but in this case the OP new he was buying an open box unit - which again begs the question why in the world did they seal it

I'm not fan of BB but in this case I think they did right with the OP :)

As I said, Sorry for the error on my part!

I agree and question why they would reseal except to make sure that all the parts stay in the box till it is resold.

Happy New Year MaFlynn, thank YOU for your service here!:)

I'm surprised bb made it rite. Walmart routinely does that but bb sucks. Hopefully they still go outta biz at earliest. We don't need em. Too much clutter and electronic junk
So a company improves itself, increases the amount of discounts, provides a hands-on showroom for potential purchases, offers more pricematching options and employs thousands of human beings.... and YOU want them out of business.

Yeah, Best Buy are the ones that serve no purpose in society.

I bought $2000 computers there a few times....a compaq, vaio, toshiba. Fawning suck ups prior to sale. Useless afterwards. Now I just buy a new iPad every year at a cost of about fifty cents per day.

That sucks, but it is possible that the person who returned the camera sealed it back up so he wouldn't have trouble returning it, and since it was returned "unopened" it most likely got put back on the shelf as new.

Or maybe BB went through the trouble, but I'd think the customer was probably trying to make an easy return because he may have been out of the return window and claimed it was a holiday gift or something.

I don't believe this to be true. An apple store genius can't bypass activation lock. At least it has not happened yet.

Maybe Not but they can authorise a swap for a white box unit. The ipad will then go back for referb at which point it can and will be reset by apple!

Well that's completely different than being able to bypass activation lock which cannot be done, not even by apple.

And you have this on who's authority? Because I hear different

There is no policy in place in which apple will conveniently disable activation lock with some prof of ownership. They do not have the means to. There is no special apple program to disable it nor will a restore of any kind work. Only way is to get a hold of the previous owner who knows the exact Apple ID and password

Again... On who's say so?

Apple will say so. If you don't believe me call apple and ask them yourself.

To quote apple (I'm standing in the store right now ;) )

'If that was to occur and proof of ownership was provided we would swap it for a white box unit'

What would happen to the locked device?

'It would go back to be refurbished'

What even though it's locked?

'Yes, the activation lock can be bypassed'

Well if you are actually standing at an apple store sorry but your being misinformed

Hmmmmm.

Best Buy had to make it RIGHT because BB sold an iPad that could not be used due to security features in iOS 7. BB may suck for you, but not for all. WalMart is way more of a problem to me than BB. Speak for yourself there pal, "we" isn't a camp I am in currently.

OP glad BB made it right.

Are you really naive enough to think apple would built a lock they cannot bypass (restore) themselves?

Sure they may take back a locked iPad if it was "recently" sold used and slipped through with the activation lock. And maybe it may go back to an apple service center under damaged and get wiped clean but you won't see that iPad ever again and it's not something they can do or will do inside an apple retail store. Apple didn't design a theft deterrent system into their iOS just for any Genius Bar associate to bypass it on a daily basis lol

You could go to apple with your receipt from bestbuy as they can bypass it as you have proof of ownership

No they can't. Stop telling folks that. Only the person who signed into iCloud can turn it off.

So the correct answer is to go back to best buy, equestrian to speak to manager and politely demand they replace or return iPad. And that they make sure that all iPads etc are properly removed from such system before returning them.

No they can't. If an iPad has activation lock on, they will not service it unless you remove it - either from the device or via iCloud.com. This is not a case of they won't do it, the system will not let them proceed with the swap with it enabled.
