Yeah. Do we need the "freely floating innovation" liek for every price? If it could not stole knowledge it woudl be dumb as smart monkey. If they would be allowed they have to pay hefty fees same as have been collected for playing music in pubs or as copy shops has to pay from each page copied. There is just question how to distribute such fees. And people wonder why Apple is behind in AI.
Yes, and followed by an insistence upon copyright protection for the output resulting from the aforementioned infringement. The irony of calling copyright infringement innovation.
Finally someone said it.. They don't give a damn and will suck up all the copyrighted material anyway.. They already have knockoffs of pretty much every product on earth. If only China played by the same rules. Their AI companies can use whatever they want to train their AI which will eventually put them ahead of everyone.
We should ban all Chinese AI companies. Their results will be skewed with pro-Chinese political bias anyway. If only China played by the same rules. Their AI companies can use whatever they want to train their AI which will eventually put them ahead of everyone.
You've looked at clouds from both sides."They took all the trees put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged the people a dollar an' a half just to see 'em."
The difference is we’ve paid for that copyright material, we haven’t simply stolen it. Even books in a library have been paid for by someone. Finally someone said it.. They don't give a damn and will suck up all the copyrighted material anyway.. They already have knockoffs of pretty much every product on earth.
Not to defend OpenAI, but everyone here who has gone through school/uni has used copyrighted material to train your brains.. Some books you bought, some you didn't.. I think balance needs to be struck for sure, but not everyone in the world is going to play by the rules unfortunately..
Large language models are not human brains. Stop using that comparison, like, forever. If a person read everything (because they somehow could), would there be a problem with declaring fair use?
If you did that writers and content creators will go out of business. They deserve to be rewarded for their work. Would you work for free? I know I wouldn’t.Why should they be the exception? Just legislate copyright laws out of existence and let’s all be in equal footing.
If and this is a big if, the government suspends copyright laws for AI state same thing. If you did that writers and content creators will go out of business. They deserve to be rewarded for their work. Would you work for free? I know I wouldn’t.
Agreed. That’s why the industry has to resist all efforts by governments around the world to legalise the theft of copyright material. If and this is a big if, the government suspends copyright laws for AI state same thing.
This just came out. So you think Apple knew about this when planning and development started years ago. Let’s give Apple a break here.ClosedAI wants to make profits off copyrighted material. What an ethical proposition coming from an ethical company that Apple chose to integrate its software into iOS.
