OpenAI business model: we would like to steal all data and sell it

Investors: Take my money!!!!

Trump (probably): Hollywood is full of woke liberals, and the publishing industries writes bad things about me, so feel free! I am hereby cancelling all copyright in the US. Now, where's my sharpie...

If a person read everything (because they somehow could), would there be a problem with declaring fair use?

And people wonder why Apple is behind in AI.
Yeah. Do we need the "freely floating innovation" liek for every price? If it could not stole knowledge it woudl be dumb as smart monkey. If they would be allowed they have to pay hefty fees same as have been collected for playing music in pubs or as copy shops has to pay from each page copied. There is just question how to distribute such fees.

All this does is confirm that AI is not intelligent, it's basically a big copy machine that mixes up information it has access to and spits out something that's written to be readable by a person. No guarantee that it will actually be a sensible answer, just that it will be somewhat sensible to read. Really, if they want to use copyrighted information then they should license it like any other media company, or use freely available stuff, or write code that actually is intelligent instead of a huge database search.

If only China played by the same rules. Their AI companies can use whatever they want to train their AI which will eventually put them ahead of everyone.
Finally someone said it.. They don't give a damn and will suck up all the copyrighted material anyway.. They already have knockoffs of pretty much every product on earth.

Not to defend OpenAI, but everyone here who has gone through school/uni has used copyrighted material to train your brains.. Some books you bought, some you didn't.. I think balance needs to be struck for sure, but not everyone in the world is going to play by the rules unfortunately..

Maybe it should use copyrighted material because the other stuff can be total garbage. We'll have AI raised on junk food and garbage.
"They took all the trees put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged the people a dollar an' a half just to see 'em."
You've looked at clouds from both sides.

The difference is we’ve paid for that copyright material, we haven’t simply stolen it. Even books in a library have been paid for by someone.

ClosedAI wants to make profits off copyrighted material. What an ethical proposition coming from an ethical company that Apple chose to integrate its software into iOS.

If and this is a big if, the government suspends copyright laws for AI state same thing.
Agreed. That’s why the industry has to resist all efforts by governments around the world to legalise the theft of copyright material.

This just came out. So you think Apple knew about this when planning and development started years ago. Let’s give Apple a break here.
