As long as ChatGPT and their ilk are profit-driven companies, they are part of this capitalist parasites. They are taking public (and privately held) knowledge and profiting from it without any compensation. It doesn't matter if they give a slice of the pie away or not.

I don't care what happened for thousands of years. Non-profit 501.c3 or nothing.
MacRumors isn't a 501.c3. They are taking opinions like yours and mine and profiting from it -- without any compensation to you or me. Yet you participate here. Have you considered doing a "or nothing" on these forums?

Can you use this app without giving it access to everything on your Mac, or creating an account and letting it harvest all your data?

If not I think I'll just use the site...which I've honestly only used once I think lol...I should put it up in the bookmarks bar to remind me to use it here and there

I manually downloaded it and have been using it for a while. It works great. But I miss one feature from MacGPT, which is it automatically breaks the post character limit and stitches them together visually. So if you copy and paste something in that would take up three posts, it makes it appear as if it were one. And if Chat replies over four posts, it'll make it appear as if it were a single post.

What is “I don’t care what happened for thousands of years” referring to?

"*The desktop app is only available for macOS 14+ with Apple Silicon (M1 or better)"

That's kind of a shame though.
It's because the hardware has to be super powerful to send the text message up to the server, so wimpy Intel Macs can't handle it.

*reboots into windows via bootcamp*
Well would ya look at that...

Has anyone asked ChatGPT what it thinks of Siri :) ?

Underwhelming response.

The desktop app is lacking because you can't open multiple windows to see multiple chats at once. Plus Claude 3.5 Sonnet crushes GPT 4o anyway, both the LLM and the product experience.

I’ve been using ChatGPT on my iPhone and iPad, and it’s fantastic. I get all the information I need in seconds. I haven’t used the desktop version as much since it’s online, but I’m impressed with the mobile experience. There are no ads to interrupt, making it a smooth and efficient tool. However, I wonder how long this will last before monetization comes into play. If advertisers notice reduced traffic due to ChatGPT, we might see some changes. So, I suggest enjoying this ad-free experience while it lasts.
I’ve noticed AI still can’t manage simple questions, like telling me how many days until a certain date in the future. It ALWAYS gets it wrong, and usually by several months.

I don’t understand why it’s M-chip only but MacGPT works great on my Intel Mac, so all is good.

Nobody is stopping you from buying an M series Mac.

Join the peeps on the other side of the fence. It's better over here... No lag and way better battery life.

Desktop Mac Pro with GPU still faster than Apple Silicon... may well change with M4 Max/Ultra

No lag and no battery.

It's just odd - no reason they couldn't it's a simple Xcode thing.

I just use web version of Poe from Quora when I need it. Don’t really see any reason to install app, Firefox works like a charm. And I don’t need to update to Ventura for that. I mean I can but don’t want to, Mac runs perfectly well with Monterey for now

Macbook is nice for travel tho. I also have old desktop iMac that can still do anything I would probably want (including AI chatbots, web versions). I will probably buy new mac mini some day in the future, but right now I am more than pleased with the portability of my MBA M1. Would have liked bigger 15 inch version but I am not inclined to sell my perfectly working device just for that
