I'm trying out the app (as a free user) and as far as I can tell it has the same limits as the web app. I was hoping with the "partnership" and all they'd throw us a bone. But nope. I even signed in using my Apple ID.

Why is this Mx only?

Oh wait, I guess you can talk to the desktop app. Except *I* can't talk so that doesn't help me lol.

I’ve been using ChatGPT on my iPhone and iPad, and it’s fantastic. I get all the information I need in seconds. I haven’t used the desktop version as much since it’s online, but I’m impressed with the mobile experience. There are no ads to interrupt, making it a smooth and efficient tool. However, I wonder how long this will last before monetization comes into play. If advertisers notice reduced traffic due to ChatGPT, we might see some changes. So, I suggest enjoying this ad-free experience while it lasts.
Yeah. But most people forget ChatGTP isn’t for getting information. It’s not a facts database and merely just produces word salads that sound good.

Is the annoying bug fixed where you can’t click on generated image thumbnails to view and export them?

Don't see any benefit of this app.
You could just ask ChatGPT:

I questioned this.

You're welcome.

I'm sorry, but that's nonsense. Again, it comes down to how you use it and if you are getting poor results, that is a user issue. You need to ensure you define your prompts correctly.

I have reservations about using these tools that are being created by stealing from anywhere and everywhere to create the end results

Louie really said it best in this short essay

The “public” in “public web” means free to access; it does not mean it's free to use.
Morally you might be right. Other than that, I would argue you can not just search companies servers because you feel like they doing something illegal, so you literally can’t prove it.

Also, have you used these tools? I did nowhere opt out of my data being used for AI training because LLMs are so dann useful. We need them. It’s no joke, this is really the next big thing. It’s like as if cars were made illegal within their first few years because of the emissions. We’d still be out here riding horses. Ofc climate change is a thing but you can’t deny the positive effect combustion engines had on the human race. Same goes for AI.

Also this is just how things are going. We are blurring the lines between humans and machines, which to me just seems to be the next logical thing in evolution. Where is the difference between me listening to Metallica and then writing a sick metal song inspired by it vs. AI doing the same? As long as I don’t copy it or use (parts) of the original, at which point exactly did I break the law (morally)?

Yes, thank you

Huh?

We need them

No, we don't "need" them

this is really the next big thing

Very much remains to be seen

A really flawed comparsion

Also this is just how things are going.

We'll see

I’ve noticed AI still can’t manage simple questions, like telling me how many days until a certain date in the future. It ALWAYS gets it wrong, and usually by several months.
Such simple things they can always build in later. Or just use a date calculator/google?

It shines in teaching. Whatever you want to know, the explanation is excellent.

How so?

Very much remains to be seen
If we’d listen to opinions like yours we would never see. In fact AI has helped solve many problems, use google for sources.

No, we don't "need" them
Define need? You might not, but I do, in a sense that I don’t ever want to spend a day in my life without AI because it’s such a useful tool. If you want do ride horses instead of driving thats good w. me.

Why so many people stop being excited about new tech at some point? Why y’all afraid of change so bad. You wasn’t out there “advocating” against the internet back then, were you? Or against Google. Or Wikipedia.

Can you use this app without giving it access to everything on your Mac, or creating an account and letting it harvest all your data?

If not I think I'll just use the site...which I've honestly only used once I think lol...I should put it up in the bookmarks bar to remind me to use it here and there
If you wrap your macbook in tinfoil it will prevent Sam Altman and Tim Apple from spying on you. /j

I installed the app on my 2020 iMac. Upon launch, it noted "You have six free questions left". After which it is apparently $15 a month! No thanks.
You sure you got the actual app? Sounds strange to me as if you got some random app from the app store pretending to be ChatGPT.

Usually ChatGPT costs 20$, and they only notify you when you reached a limit for the 4o model within a 3 hour window. But you still can use the 3.5 model after that! There is no 6 questions limit anywhere 😬

U sure you download from openai.com?

Not working on macOS Monterey, i.e. on a still supported version of macOS. I don't understand these hipster developers, who think everybody will switch OS versions just to run their app.

Let’s turn this post around:

Developers don’t want to waste cycles writing extra code to support a legacy OS version that came out 3 years ago. I don’t understand these boomer customers, who think that everybody will add code for their OS versions just to cater to a percentage who are less likely to spend money on the paid version of the app they want people to run.

Why do you tease us?!
i dont. I just say, dont use openai. They are creepy. Their ceo is creepy and pervert. And they are definetely villain. Their ai will not be good for humanity.

…It's just odd - no reason they couldn't it's a simple Xcode thing.
From my previous intensive 2yrs+ of experience with Xcode, some aspects of it are darn complicated, especially when Apple is doing everything to push things forward. This includes Apple conveniently releasing bug fixes and developer features on their modern frameworks here and there (like SwiftUI and Combine—once even a plain simple button appearance option 😢) that are hard-wired to work only on their newer versions of OSes or hardware. The entire platform, from silicon to front-facing products on both ground and cloud, is almost entirely theirs, and the giant just naturally keeps stepping, I guess.

Nobody is stopping you from buying an M series Mac.

Join the peeps on the other side of the fence. It's better over here... No lag and way better battery life.
Except I have the most awesome, fast 2017 4TB SSD, 24 GB RAM, 5k, iMac which was not cheap. Next mac will be entry level mini with 3rd party monitor.

So this is never comming to Intel Macs? Kinda sad. Was not expecting it to be treated like apple intelligence. Saw someone write "needs apple silicone for current and future features" and wondered how this would be a thing since it's essentially a web integration.
