This is great, does anyone know if they have on their roadmap to merge Dolphin into it?

You can play them on iOS, if you side load, just as you can on an Apple TV. It shouldn't have to be that way of course, but Apple loves their walled gardens.

There are *some* good iOS games though. Try CAVE's amazing shmups for example, including their very latest which just came out a few weeks ago. They're incredible. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/nu-shou-ling-feng-yi-mian/id1057408697?mt=8

Thanks for the new Cave Co. shooter tip. DL'ed right away.
Gotta love Cave.

Still a hit and miss. Im unable to make Tekken 3 work. I have all the bios files, but when i start the game i can only see a blank black screen.

I came to this thread because of the same issue. Keys don't do anything.

Just downloaded the latest version of website (v2.0.1)

Tried lots of games from my library - they load just like they should, but it's like the keyboard isn't recognized.

Mac Pro 2013 w/ Apple wireless (BT) keyboard. OS X 11.1

Anyone having more luck with this?

yep exact same setup as me... same 2013 macbook pro and 11.1 and apple wireless keyboard but i also tried the laptop keyboard and it doesn't work either.

Actually, I have just a Mac Pro - people get that confused all the time - thanks Apple! ;-)

Did you change any of the default settings?

Maybe I'll try completely uninstalling it and reinstall from scratch.

Remind again why we want to play 70s and 80s video games again. Don't you remember the 70s and 80s? You're not missing anything, believe me. I've looked into it. There's a gas shortage and A Flock of Seagulls. That's about it.
Games were simple back then and at first glance one could easily see what the games were about and how to play them. Fast forward today and games are so complex with long storylines and way too many controller combos that aren't always revealed in the instructions, but rather you have to go online to watch others discover them or accidentally discover them yourself. I loved the old games and play many of them now on my iMac's emulator.

It would be nice if it supported Intellivision ROMs. But I dropped some in and it wouldn't play them without the BIOS ROM. I dropped the BIOS ROM in, and it doesn't recognize it.

That's my biggest gripe with OpenEmu - it's unbelievably fussy about ROM and BIOS formatting. Other emulators are hugely more flexible.

Has anyone tried playing certain N64 games (specifically Goldeneye) and everything runs normally until the level starts and then the game play is speed up super fast, making it almost impossible to play accurately.

I feel ya. Once i've beaten a game, I don't really care about it too much afterword. Retro games are fun once in a while, especially when you have a party at home full of 40 somethings who also love retro games, but I wouldn't play the alone.

OpenEmu uses Stella as it's it's A2600 core, so there shouldn't be different.

Groovy, pull up the configure controls from the OpenEmu toolbar and make sure all the original Atari 2600 controls are set to a key.

OK, I've set up OpenEMU (actually a pretty nice front-end for a lot of programs that might not be so friendly otherwise) and the only issue I ran into was that their "help" site didn't make clear what the rom extension names should be for it to auto-recognize the games (i.e. it doesn't much care for .bin for example and instead prefers something like .a26 for Atari 2600 and .a52 for Atari 5200, etc.). Otherwise, there's a lot of manual clicking to approve them (no "Select All" type option to speed it up either).

In any case, I've had no trouble getting keyboard controls to work (or my PS3 controller, although I wish the analog controls were adjustable for sensitivity when being used as a D-Pad substitute). Based on previous experience with my Macbook Pro and a certain MAME emulator, I think some emulators have trouble with OS X notebook keyboards. They don't register the same as a USB keyboard for some reason. Bluetooth may have a similar issue for all I know. I'm using a wired USB Logitech K740 Illuminated keyboard on my Mac Mini and it works fine. Most games are more fun with a gamepad/joystick anyway (e.g. The PS3 controller will map out well for AD&D on Intellivision even).

It would be nice if it supported Intellivision ROMs. But I dropped some in and it wouldn't play them without the BIOS ROM. I dropped the BIOS ROM in, and it doesn't recognize it.

Intellivision works fine here (even the voice module as I tested B17 Bomber out) and I've had these ROMs for over a decade. I also found that exiting OpenEMU and restarting got it to accept newly added ROMs after trying a set that didn't work (and I add them via the preference menu drag and drop. It then checkmarks them when they're correct). I had already from old emulators on my Windows machine or found all the Bios Roms without issue.

I've tested Atari 2600, 5200 and 7800, Colecovision, Odyssey2, NES, SNES, N64, Vectrex, TurboGrafx, TurboGrafx CD, Genesis and Sega Master System. Frogger didn't seem to work on Odyssey2 for some reason. Goldeneye on N64 does run too fast and the analog control for down doesn't work right (goes down so far and then starts going up again and no way to adjust). Mario64 worked well and StarFox was OK so far. All the other stuff I've tried seems OK so far (Coleco, Atari, etc.)

Too bad this guy doesn't add MAME SDL support. Mame SDL absolutely sucks without a front-end and the only front-end I've found doesn't seem to want to work with El Capitain. Fortunately, the old Mame OS X has pretty much all the games I'd ever want to play and it still works fine in El Capitain (think the last update was 2009) even with my PS3 controller.

I love this emulator, and I'm glad they are now available to the public (they were in experimental state for a while, and it required a bit of fiddling to get it to work). A bit annoyed by the fact that it's only for 10.11 and up, but no big deal that is (most computers that can't run El Capitan can't emulate most of those consoles well enough anyway).

But offering the old version on their website could be a good idea though.

I've used a few of the individual cores before, and they always worked well. I picked up a new MacBook Air so I have the latest OS, downloaded the latest update of OpenEMU and it's pretty great. I certainly appreciate the level of polish in the app!

nope all defaults

I found this out there on the net thought it maybe worth a search on this keyboard issue.

For those with controller/input issues. Try closing Google Chrome, restart OpenEmu and see what happens. (Chrome is keyboard / input hog).

Probaly just one persons resolution but hey worth a try if you use Chrome.

You could try shutting down OpenEmu then shut down every other program you have running then re open OpenEmu, from what I am reading online this problem is pretty common and it normaly turns out that another program is blocking OpenEmu from the keyboard.

True - but Apple is not going to allow this at all. They have been openly hostile about game console emulators having rejected anything that smells of something that can run older video games. The big reason seems that they don’t want to touch any sort of copyright spat given that they want to be friendly with the many devs that created games for these consoles. Lets not forget, while the emulators themselves are legal, the ROMS may or may not be (I would wager mostly not since I don’t know of any authorized way to get them from the copyright owner).

Simply put, it just won’t happen. Apple is really hostile to emulation on it’s iOS platform.

Can't see how it's a legal issue, given there are over a dozen emulators on android. I suspect it's a $$ issue, Apple wants you to buy new games, instead of buying an emulator and having access to hundreds of games. Money theory aside, how do you get the roms onto an iPhone ?

I also had that problem with Goldeneye. I had to remap the joystick at the point before the games starts and asks you to select a file. For some reason, if I tried to remap from any other screen, the joystick will go bonkers.

As far as the speed, I had to get the rom from a differ site. The one from emuparadise speeds up the gameplay.

Oh dear. No support for those of us who abhor the overly-colourful, dumbed-down kiddy interface, then.

Stop doing drugs. The UI of Yosemite and later is the least colourful interface in OS X ever. :p

I kind of thought the same thing before I started using Mac's again as my primary computers, but honestly I'm really enjoying the interface now. The new default font is quite nice, in my opinion.

Zelda, Super Mario Brothers, Metroid, Contra, Castlevania.

If old school is not your thing, neither will this be.

You probably were the kid that no matter how many quarters you had in your pocket you always lost at bideo games.

Not sure if that is what fixed it but I closed every other program and it started working. Opening each one back and it still works so not sure which one did it but it does look like some other app is stealing the keys. Here are all the apps I had running incase it correlates to anyone else's setup:

- PathFinder
- Mail
- Safari
- JRiver MC21 (music)
- Parallels running a windows 10 vm
- Skype
