The entire jelly bean update is about improving the user experience on Android, so Googles obviously heading in the right direction.

With something like Project Butter, which was really something that was never needed in iOS because the back end architecture on the GUI isn't as inherently flawed as it is in Android.

People can go back and forth on stuff like this all day and we'll just be chasing our tails. There is no right answer about which OS is "better". They are both are good. The answer of which is best is going to vary from person to person.

Agreed on both counts. I own devices that run both and they're both fabulous.

I was merely pointing out that Google focuses on usability too. Jelly bean is an improvement update, they now sell nexus phones which are guaranteed to get quick updates, they've released a platform developer kit so that manufacturers can get updates out quicker (hopefully it works). They're obviously making an effort here :p

There were a ton of missteps with the Nexus line, in my opinion, but it seems Google is finally getting over the growing pains. I'm hoping they get the next Nexus launch right. Verizon exclusivity was a major blunder.

A lot of what's going on with the Nexus 7 makes me hopeful.

Before Jelly Bean, I would have said that iOS is a better platform than Ice Cream Sandwich. Now, however, Jelly Bean demonstrates that Android can "just work." My battery life doubled to 5 screen hours. Everything is smooth.

What do I want from iOS? Well, I want a better multitasking system. I want some kind of widget system. I want a taller and wider display. I want a method of eliminating ads from apps and websites. I just wish the OS felt more dynamic than it is today. Android is a platform that discourages the need for constantly using apps. iOS, on the other hand, is a shell for applications.

If it weren't for iTunes integration or app quality, I wouldn't give iOS another look. Coming from a lifelong Apple fan, this is bad news.

All that "wow factor" stuff with mobile devices is over. The platform will just evolve, mature. and get incrementally better with each passing year. A few spikes of excitement along the way, but nothing compared to when SJ took the stage in 07. We'll have to wait for the next revolutionary invention to get that kind of "wow" back. Everyone who expects that feeling with every iPhone announce is in for a huge let down each and every time. Just appreciate the technology for what it is and enjoy it.

What you weren't wow'ed by the fools at Google sky diving with those silly glasses.

Kudos for an excellent post _and_ a terrific avatar. :D

The opinions in the article are poorly expressed and most of the comments in this thread are wrong.

The author also exposes himself as small minded for bringing up Google Glass goggles like that.

Theres no reason why cellphones would ever be put into glasses, you can stop right now.

It's not for the consumer market, it's not the future, so plz go. Not if the element of social embarrassment comes into play.

There is a limit to what tools we are willing to use, despite their usefulness, if it means we become physically burdened.

Think Bluetooth headsets. They are used less than ever before.

People would rather wear flip flops and a shirt and be free. Not worrying about some gizmo.

Life boils down to social interaction. Escaping to a nerd world will never be mainstream so long as we are social creatures.

A technocratic future will never happen. The majority of humans are too simple and undereducated.

We will always be relatively simple. Think Idiocracy not Blade Runner.

PS I just played with a Galaxy 3 and it's still hasn't caught up to the UI, polish, elegance, and touch response of an iPhone so android is still far off. They stopped major lagging and horrendous battery drainage but now they still have to make it look, feel, and behave nice. The details are still not there and it is still generic looking and feeling.

I still would not want to be stuck with one of those ugly poor-people-phones.

Google Glass makes about as much sense as a Nintendo Virtua Boy.

It's so idiotic of a product that the best Google could do at I/O was show it as a glorified head mounted camcorder.

What contribution exactly is this product supposed to make? Or is it there so Google can find out where I am at so it can sell my info to local retailers?

I bought an Apple Newton in 1993, because I wanted a portable device that could manage my contacts, calendar, and notes. No luck. I bought a Palm. Yuck. Some Windows smartphones. Close, but fail.

iPhone works. I don't need all this razzle dazzle BA the author pines for. What's the point? He's bored? Don't buy a phone to relieve boredom! I'm on my fourth iPhone, each one's been much better than the last, but I don't need the thing to be re-invented. Personally, I think right now the next improvement will need to be CPU and network performance. The Giant Leap, where the thing replaces a laptop, is still several years off, but its certain to happen.

I totally respected your opinion until you said "I still would not want to be stuck with one of those ugly poor-people-phones." That was totally unnecessary and untrue, considering most Android devices sold cost the same or more than the iPhone. But nice try taking a totally unbiased look at Android.

What was uneccesary and untrue is you using the word "most" when in reality it is "some" or a "few."

"Most" Android devices come free with a phone line.

So you're the liar.

You make a derogatory comment which is offensive to majority of world wide smart phone owners then tattle when someone calls you a immature name? Lol gimme a break....I'd even venture to say calling his exaggeration a liar is more offensive....

Besides let's be real here. The iPhone has a 40% profit margin which is borderline insane. Technically the iPhone is much less expensive with much more money that goes no where useful to the end consumer...

Wow, man. How old are you? 8? Would seem so with your childish replies. Where do you get your info from? The top 30 selling Android phones are definitely not free. You can get a 3Gs for free, does that make it a garbage phone? It must using your logic.

The iPhone hasn't done that since the first one :p

actually, every year the iPhone is the top selling phone and breaks all previous records. Which is the record set by the previous iPhone, no other smartphone has even come close to outselling the iPhone. Most phones are lucky to sell as many phones over their lifetime as a new iPhone sells in its first weekend.

Im not sure if you realize but the 3GS is 3 years old. So that makes your point moot. What a childish rebuttal.

Galaxy s3 is looking like it might outsell the iPhone. Particularly in worldwide sales.

What makes you say that? I assume you mean before the new iPhone is released they will sell near as much as last years iPhone during a same quarter while everyone is waiting with their upgrades to use on the 5? That's a pointless statement I guess. Strong insecurity that you felt the need to say something like that.

It would be the first time in 5 years so it would be something. Won't last more than one quarter though.

Right now depends on what are you looking for since competition is quite tied with the iphone in their own ways. I had every iphone since the 1st gen, i have an 4s now and to tell you the truth i am considering switching to an android. They have been catching on and is so open now that in the next year they might offer me something else than ios6. Like i said depends on what you are looking for and hardware specs but if the iphone 5 is not adding anything revolutionary else than a bigger screen then i guess you might get the phone you like most since they right now are all awesome, in some years... i think iphone will be left out.

Left out of what? It's the best selling phone on Earth. And is unmatched in OS and UI response and behavior. Anybody who is anybody has one. What makes you think that will change? (emotional bias I am assuming)

That is why i said in some years...

By the way you guys should check this guy on you tube: Flossy Carter

He gets almost every phone (iphones, samsungs, htc) and makes a review of it straight forward. Like a year ago he compared every phone he got and rock it out with the iphone and these days he barely mentions the iphone 4s since the new phones are rocking out the iphone.

His latest video few days ago, his favorite phone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECnvM8kTpIU&list=UUFfCqe7b9YiDk2ZiAG8UIGA&index=1&feature=plcp

There is a reason Samsung is rushing these phones out and bungling the launch.

Everyone knows the iPhone freight train is coming and will decimate their sales.
