Faux-
case looks great but I was wondering...
1. do any of those come with screen protection
2. is it easy to slip in and out (if I want to put in dock, or use the new tom-tom gps thingy for the car)
3. ever get the leather wet before? how did it fair? Dropped ever?

Been wanting one of this for my first iphone but they are spendy and I was alittle discouraged by their low ratings on ilounge...
d

ps can you use the clip so that the phone hangs horizontally, not vertical?

Greetings MED-

I remember reading the iLounge review before purchasing mine. The reviewer was heavily colored by his experience with Vaja's previous offerings, citing reduced protection at increased cost. I'll concede it is costly ($85) but I mostly disagree with his assertion wrt protection.

While protection is noticeably absent in the upper corners, the case is very sturdy overall . I've dropped it on hardwood, asphalt, hard-points in my car, etc and it's held up perfectly. Ultimately, I decided on the Vaja because I wanted a soft feel and it is indeed soft which lends to its protective factor.

The leather itself is very resilient. I've scuffed it against sharp objects, incurring a scrapes/blemishes only to notice them disappear within a few days. Durability - like a good pair of work boots you can put through hell and emerge unscathed.

Cost is a valid concern but I believe that cost shows up in the materials and workmanship. There are no visible threads or weak-points. It's possible that Vaja upgraded materials/manufacturing in recent years, which could account for the reviewer's observation re: cost (?)

To your questions:

1. do any of those come with screen protection
- Yes, in the form of flip-cases. I use a protective film. Took a direct key-scrape last month. Film was torn but the glass remained pristine. Not directly pertinent but ya know...

2. is it easy to slip in and out (if I want to put in dock, or use the new tom-tom gps thingy for the car)
- No-go with this model. I mount but don't dock. Vaja does offer dock-friendly cases.

3. ever get the leather wet before? how did it fair? Dropped ever?
- Yes, it endured its share of water and soft-drink dousings. No issues.
I already mentioned drops - to reiterate, the rear top-corners are the main concern.

ps can you use the clip so that the phone hangs horizontally, not vertical?
- It'll typically be vertical but naturally swivels horizontally when I do things like sit down.

Hope this helps! :D

Has anyone tried out the Bamboo Slider case? I like it in the mushroom color, but I'm wondering what it looks like in real life. I'm deciding either between this bamboo case, or just a plain black one. Any suggestions?

I ordered a Speck CandyShell (the white/cranberry one that NFL posted, actually), and my friend ordered a SwitchEasy Capsule Pro. Can't wait to see how they feel.

The incase slider cases were what I used to use and love, until I realized how much they scratch up your phone...

I've read about this before, specifically people complain about the chrome scratching. All I can say is in 6 months I've had no problems :)

I use the incase slider with the cheapest screen protectors I could find on Amazon. Means I can throw it in my bag and not worry about scratches (I hate scratches). I bought the slider because there were so many positive reviews of it, and I also love it. It's sturdy, well made and a perfect fit. I forget it's a case.

...I'm 15...he's 22. I don't think that he's going through puberty...
On the other hand, I am. And I have a less oily phone than him!

I am 25 and for some reason I have really oily skin. Just a quick call will leave my phone a mess. Quite gross really.

I use and recommend Seidio cases for everything - iPhones and Blackberries. Have the Innocase Surface on my 3G now (along with the holster) - it's a hard shell that's 1mm thick, plus it has a rubbery feel for good grip and slide protection.

That's all you need to know.

I'm assuming you have one... how is it holding up? I was debating on getting one last year when I first bought my 3G, and now I'm looking to possibly getting one for my 3GS. I've had another sleeve that I used at first, but it was kinda cheap. And from then on I've used a silicone case, most specifically the Switch Easy Colors... which I love. But I'm looking to go more of the "naked" route this time around, but I like a little protection for when it hits my pocket.

It holds up very well. I got medium brown leather, looks extremely classy. I've had it since my original iPhone, so abou a year and a half. The leather doesn't look brand new, but it wears very well.

It's a great attention grabber when you pull it out though because people just know it's quality when they see it. I get comments on it all the time.

Awesome, I'll probably end up ordering one soon then!

Well make sure to post back when you receive it if you did in fact order it. If it's your first Vaja case, you're in for a wonderful product. I've had them on most every consumer electronic device I've had and consider it a necessary cost of getting a new device.

The iPhone's $300? Nope, it's $365, I need my VAJA!

I've noticed no difference in reception.

Cant understand why it would make a difference. its mostly the people who dont have a certain case tend to make things like this up to justify not having it. All of these cases will do fine for protecting from scratches. Its really not that difficult a task, but protecting it from cracking screen??? different story.
