"Unlike the Apple Watch, the OPPO Watch can monitor sleep quality, generating a sleep report of the user's duration of deep sleep, light sleep, and awake time."

Why do you keep repeating this nonsense?
OF COURSE the Apple Watch can monitor sleep quality. I've been doing so for years.
The built-in software does not do so, but there are multiple 3rd party apps like AutoSleep or Sleep++ that do a very good job at a very low price.
Autosleep, for example, is $2.99, and worth every penny:

Pretty sure you know they mean sleep monitoring is not a feature of the Apple Watch. Which it is not. Context does matter. Since the author was discussing feature differences...

Bolded: They won’t. Oppo has no grounds in Northern America. Think about it for a minute, let’s say Oppo copied the Apple Watch on every facet, how many consumers would actually even know anything about their branding, it’s android-based and they’ve zero marketing. This product will fade with no following behind it.
I am not sure they care about NA market. NA market is very small compared to China. For example, in 2019 the number of smartphone users in US was 260M and in China - 850M (Source). Then there is the rest of the World...

Companies can come close but its clear no one can match the fit, finish and polish of the Apple Watch. Nice try though Oppo.
Why would that be the case? It could have been possible if Apple manufactured themselves. They don't. They outsource everything. All competitors can use the same manufacturers. In some cases Apple devices are made better but they also cost more (there is a correlation :) ) Same (and often lower) priced devices from the competitors are just as good.

North America is NOT the only region they have products nor a presence in.

recall their mostly a Chinese based company and 20% of that market is more than the total USA, Canada and Mexico markets combined!

also this is Android based for Android users. Samsung is not doing that great with their watch offerings and Fitbit has their niche here yet globally not so much unless we include the low cost market segment. Should they market in Asia and in Europe continents they can completely and wealthily ignore the N. American market entirely.

and with hardly any marketing we’re all reading about it here, in North America! That should alert you to something. (I didn’t say this is an Apple Watch killer like some might; I’m no fool as I’m an Apple Watchuser since Watch Nike+ S3

So the Apple Watch doesn’t.... it needs third party software. The only nonsense is yours.

Monkey see monkey do. This is the world's tech problem with China, they dont respect anyone's IP or sanctity of ideas.

Sure you can produce a $200 (whatever this ends up being) cheap product when you dont have to design anything and just copy the idea. Real easy when you dont have that design cost!

Oppo is very successful and they clearly know their customers better than you. This design is very obviously coped directly from the apple watch and that's intentional. They're going after the segment who want something that looks and feels very close to an Apple Watch but works with the vast majority of smartphones in China (which happens to be Android). Remember, the average consumer can't tell the difference or don't care enough to switch platforms. They just want something that looks like Apple hardware and works with what they have.

The article implies that Apple Watch can't track sleep, not that it doesn't.

Quickly forgotten and the 6 people that buy one will constantly have people assuming it’s an Apple Watch which won’t garner them any mindshare either.

People will buy it because a) it exactly like the Apple Watch and b)it works with Android. It's not made to stand out as something independent or occupy mindshare. Oppo is clearly hoping to depend on the recognizability and popularity of Apple design to sell these to Android users.

I see some sort of battle in the future.
I think the battle needs to really be with other governments, and perhaps this is already sort of happening with the US. If China doesn’t want to respect other countries companies intellectual property then trade wars and tariffs seem like they’ll continue for a very long time.

It just seems a no brainer, pull these companies into line and say hey, you can’t just rip off a design and pretend you came up with it. It won’t be allowed.

Also noted though that they couldn’t master the crown.

The missing crown speaks volumes on so many levels.

I suspect Apple Will eventually remove/delete the digital crown. I think it could be replaced with some type of ‘haptic Touch’ with some type of digital slider Implemented. Anyways, I get what you’re saying, I just think the digital crown doesn’t serve that much functionality aside from scrolling/double clicking, if They remove the digital crown, It would continue to strengthen the water resistance.

Need it for the heart sensor

I don’t understand how Apple sues Samsung over something as vague as copying the “shape” of their iPhone but then when stuff like this happens nobody gets sued. What about all the AirPods and iPod knock offs. And remember back when they were making the “mini” iPhone

In regards to infringement, Samsung is a major manufacturer in terms of actually posting their own copyright/blueprints on products, whereas these other ‘knock off Chinese manufacturers’, they don’t even have any specific store fronts/licensed products/legit business contact points/lack there of customer service.

It would be a colossal waste of time and resources/money for Apple to even try to track down these no-name junk Chinese knock off manufacturers.

Sweet. A cheaper more open alternative.

Its Android based, how is that even remotely considered an ‘open alternative?’ Also, depending where you are, this product wouldn’t even be available in certain markets. That doesn’t seem very ‘open’.

More open because the Play Store doesn't require 10 steps to jump through. Clearly you don't have any experience developing for iOS? The Apple Watch even has watch faces locked down.

It will probably sell well in China, which has a large population and sell in significant numbers.

2015: “Apple Watch is stupid; who wants a rectangular display? Ugly.”

2020: “No, this is not an Apple Watch rip-off. It has a button instead of a crown.”

2025: “This lawsuit is meritless. Everyone makes watches look like this; it’s the obvious design choice.”

How many ways can you design a rectangular slab of glass?

Why does a smartwatch need to be a rectangular slab of glass at all? Weren't people arguing that Apple's choice to make the screen rectangular was poor?

But if you're serious:

That's a Withings Activité. Very different design.

Or how about a Moto 360.

A Microsoft Band.

iu

A Garmin Fenix.

maxresdefault.jpg

A Fitbit Ionic.

None of these look terribly similar to the Apple Watch. The OPPO Watch does.

Anything square with name "watch" is now Apple Watch, lol. No wheel, entirely different navigation and button layout. AndroidOS = Apple Watch. It's amazing how dumb some people are.

Might be a nice upgrade option from my Samsung Galaxy Fit depending on its iOS compatibility. The Samsung Health app has a lot of features and is user friendly.

That’s funny because I’ve been using my Apple Watch to track sleep for several years now. Via 3rd party app but who cares whether it’s 1st party or not? Apple added cycle tracking to the Health app but it doesn‘t do anything more than the 3rd party app I was already using.

If you need third party out of the box to do it, it doesn’t do it then.

That is literally the point, Apple doesn’t do it out of the box without third party apps.

Most of the time I don't use the crown but scroll with a finger, but if I need to scroll faster or for a long time the crown is way better than touch.
I do think scrolling should be limited tough, apps need to be light and give only essential information to the user. Sometimes you have a long list, but it shouldn't be the norm
